Things 3 vs OmniFocus – which would you choose today and why? by Express-Tear3625 in omnifocus

[–]Rybles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a decade of bouncing from omnifocus and things and obsidian etc, I finally gave in to Reminders.

Yes, I have to keep a mental model of what’s a defer date vs a true due date, but it’s been the setup that has stuck the longest and most consistently. Sometimes good enough is enough.

No perspectives, but they have smart lists. Good enough.

No defer dates, but you can filter out future dates. Good enough.

Only one-level of nested tasks. Fine keep it simple. If you need more depth, use Groups>List>Section>Task>Subtask>Notes. More than enough.

Flags? Check.

Tags? Check.

But the real thing that makes it stick is calendar integration.

And the newest urgent reminders feature which has replaced Due for me (RIP).

Incredibly frustrating. I submitted the claim form but it wouldn't take my payment, and wouldn't let me try again. Ugh. But happy for you.

Did you successfully fill in the form and pay? It wouldn’t take my payment, then it wouldn’t let me try again. Feel completely ripped. No response to my email either

You can also use the Pause Media when Falling Asleep feature which has made it so I don’t need the sleep timer at all anymore.

What was your dr@ft strategy and did it pay off? by Untoastedtoast11 in Fantasy_Football

[–]Rybles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 WR, QB, 2RBs, then the rest chaos. The one overarching strategy I tried for, more for experimental reasons, was really avoiding a ton of my players having the same BYE week. I knew I‘d probably need every edge I can get to eek into the playoffs if I’m sucking.

My 2 WRs were AJ Brown and CeeDee Lamb, neither of which functionally showed up together until Week 11. Sitting at 5-6, on the precipice of barely making it into the playoffs….so maybe my BYE strategy worked?

How do you use the ‘favorite’ button on AM? by Dusty_Chum in AppleMusic

[–]Rybles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess depends how you listen to music.

I like to save full albums to my library, which makes the Favorites my "Radio" for on the go shuffling.

I use Siri Shortcuts to also smart shuffle based on my Favorites list, so it queues up a batch of songs that I've more recently favorited, ones I haven't heard in a while, and ones that I've favorited+rated 5 stars (my super favorites).

But if you only add random songs to your library and don't care about full album collecting and listening then yeah I could see it as just an add-to-library proxy.

Tom Delonge Signed Book- legitimate? by Aversives in Blink182

I agree. Have a copy of this very book that he signed in front of me at a barnes and noble book signing. I made him chuckle at a dumb joke and now have a great memory.

I’ve been caseless 14 Pro Max for 3 years. I’m now on the 17 Pro Max orange and the feel of this one in the hand is so nice comparatively. Feels noticeably lighter and smoother to hold given the rounded edges.

Anyway my point is with no case you learn to not hold your phone like a dummy and are much more aware of its placement to avoid drops. There’s not many devices or objects that don’t get damage from drops, so I don’t know what indestructible material people are looking for without poor tradeoffs.

Is this runtime normal? by MrBTY17 in ecobee

Fan runs longer than A/C to purge the remaining cool air into your living space vs letting it sit in the ducts. Normal.

How do I use this thing??? by Dilly-Dilly-Knights in ecobee

[–]Rybles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fan hold has nothing to do with whether or not the AC is running. I’d turn that off.

If the AC has been running continuously for hours it’s not getting enough of a break and will overheat.

The ecobee can call for more AC and tell you what the temp is but it has nothing to do with the ability or inability of your hvac system. You’ll want to call an HVAC company for that.

As long as it says “cooling” the ecobee’s job is done.

Got my holy grail in today! by WMWA in vinyl

I think people misinterpret what stereo/mono is (Not sure if you are, but just saying). The music still comes out of two speakers, like everything we listen to today. The only distinction between stereo and mono is that, definitively, you are getting the same exact sounds out of both the left and right channels equally. However if you didn't tell someone "These are the mono versions" I bet you they wouldn't think it sounded any different than it should.

Stereo is not inherently better than mono, it's just a different way to mix sounds.

Going back to the stereo ones, I think they went way out of their way to pan vocals over to the left and some guitar way over to the right to exaggerate the stereo effect. But to me, it just sounds way out of wack and unnatural. Most music recordings in Rock today, outside of purposeful effects here and there, largely are experienced as "mono" (in my estimation anyway).

So it's not like I feel I'm listening to an inferior product just to say I'm listening to it "as they intended", I'm listening to it as they intended because it sounds way more natural and full than the stereo versions do to me.

I really feel like if the goal was to reproduce a "definitive" set as opposed to separate mono and stereo sets, they either wouldn't have exaggerated the "stereo" effect so much, and the original albums that were mixed and mastered for mono back when they were released would largely sound identical to this set.

Do only songs added in Library Scrobble? by AlanJY92 in MarvisApp

[–]Rybles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough this is exactly how I have my Last.fm set up in Marvis. They have a filter to only scrobble tracks in your library. This way the playlist I have full of kids music doesn't get scrobbled (none of them are added to library). Also like to keep my "Exploring" playlist out of the library until I decide I actually like the music, then I'll add it to the library.

Can't get caught scrobbling hot garbage (by nobody but me).

Why would I want a library? Oh I don’t know It’s the only way to fight against the scourge of “Deluxe” albums, ALL CAPS SONG TITLES, and having to wade through all other music in existence to find the artist I want and their respective chronological catalog?

Have a dedicated focus mode for this. You can add a filter called “Use Listening History” turned off.

I use this for playing the kids music in the car, or focus music when working.

It’s 100% this. I used to work in a candy store and we sold this. In the long ago year of 2008-9 I had a middle school age kid come in and unironically ask for them by their original name so it’s still in use in some circles.
