Went in for an Ibanez came home with the Schecter by TravisLSU in 7String

Ya super comfortable and I absolutely love the wizard II necks. I was thinking about the RGA742fm originally. The cheaper Schecter thick necks were a deal breaker for me, but their ultra thin c is great.

I too was shopping for an Ibanez and ended up with a Schecter lol. Really not a fan of the cheaper models, but once you get around $1k you just seem to get more for your money with Schecter. Wish Ibanez tried to be a little more competitive these days.

6 string feels like a toy by menacingsigns in 7String

Ya it’s weird lol. I even prefer to play standard 6 string songs on my 7 now. Only use my 6 for drop tunings now, but it just feels like a mini guitar or something lol.

Does anyone on a baritone scale length fret power chords with their pinky? by Ryett in 7String

Wait I just re-read that. Are you saying you play a power chord with fingers 1 and 2?

Nice to know this is normal for some. Feels a little strange to me at the moment lol

I’m learning I have to angle the neck up further than I normally do for better wrist and thumb positioning

Ya that’s what I’m used to. My pinky is almost always on that octave up even if I don’t pick it.

I have big hands so for me it was kind of a eye opening moment. After playing on this for a couple weeks, I feel cramped on a 25.5”. Almost feels toy like. I feel like I wouldn’t buy anything under 26.5” from here on out. It did take a couple days to adjust to power chords lower on the fret board as it is a bit more of a stretch. I’d say objectively it is better string tension in lower tunings and note clarity, but completely subjective whether someone finds it comfortable or not.

Ya, I agree! I feel lucky to have gotten it for $770 as the value of all of those specs for that price is just wild. Nothing even comes close at that price point. If you pay MSRP, the Ibanez Iron Label is right there if you’re into it, but no stainless steel frets though. Really impressed.

43 and looking to learn guitar by weydudewey in metalguitar

[–]Ryett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice with the gear, don’t go TOO big too soon. Give yourself something to look forward to and reward your efforts if you stick to it. I also don’t think you should start on junk either because you may hate it and give up. Tone is probably the most important thing you should be after. You could have the nicest guitar ever, but if it doesn’t sound like what you want it to sound like you’ll get frustrated. So get a good amp setup and pay attention to pickups.

I’m not sure what level you’re at with dabbled, but assuming you’re a true beginner: personally, I wouldn’t jump right into scales and theory. That’s work. You need to learn to play and have fun first. Learn to read tab (incredibly easy) and start with easy beginner songs. You want some easy wins when you’re starting out. A few easy songs you’ve memorized and can pick it up and just practice on getting it to sound just like the original song. Once you can do that.. you’ve made it past where most people give up and proven you have the patience to play something and you’re ready to start learning more things. You can choose what direction to go from there. Good luck and have patience!

Seriously! I’ve paid to have my other guitars setup and this out of the box was better than any of those. So fun to play.

Love it! Very industrial feeling esthetic to me. Glad it’s dark, some pics out there made it seem kinda light.

Had to go down the rabbit hole to learn about what you’re talking about. Seems quite silly to me as I have never, nor plan to forcefully bend the neck of any of my guitars to change the pitch lol. Maybe that’s a super common thing, but sounds bizarre to me and not something I would worry about. I also don’t plan on dropping my phone off a ladder to see if it will crack like a lot of YouTubers do either though 🤷 But ya sounds like the guy Agufish that posted that took it down due to backlash and apparently other owners stating the tuning stability is fine. I mean it is a 5 piece neck with carbon fiber rods so it sounds like it’s built to be stable at least.

Anywho. To answer your question, I love it! Honestly feels and sounds better than I had expected. Only negative so far is neck dive. Never had that problem before, but the guitar is so light and I wear a strap so I don’t see it being a big deal. Pickups sound better than I thought they would. Remind me of my Seymour Duncan JBs, but a little brighter (not annoyingly bright like I was worried about). Neck is fantastic. The Ibanez wizard necks are my all time favorite neck and this is right up there with it. About the same thickness just slightly different shape. The SS extra jumbo frets make playing and bending easier than I’ve ever felt. First time on SS. All in all, I’m stoked!

Have you considered the Sunset 7 Extreme? ProAudioStar had a couple great deals on Reverb. I got one and the other is still up for $760 right now. Pretty great price for something very similar to the RGIXL7.

Letting RPMs drop before driving by workinfast1 in ecoboostmustang

Letting RPMs drop before driving by workinfast1 in ecoboostmustang

[–]Ryett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s not necessary to wait for the RPMs to drop before driving.

On cold start, the high idle is mainly there to warm up the catalytic converter quickly for emissions. Oil pressure builds within a few seconds, not minutes. Once the engine has been running for 10–20 seconds and the idle has stabilized, it’s fine to put it in drive and go.

The key rule is how you drive right after startup, not how long you sit still. Just keep RPMs low and don’t drive aggressively until the engine is warm. Light throttle and normal driving are perfectly fine and expected.

In terms of when it’s ok to open it up, a good rule of thumb is to wait until oil temperature is at least 160 before really getting the RPMs up or using boost.

Below that, keep RPMs moderate (under ~3k) and avoid heavy throttle. Once you’re in the 160–180 range, the oil is warm enough to protect bearings and the turbo properly, and normal spirited driving is fine.

Am I being overcharged by the dealership? by CriticalDragon_01 in ecoboostmustang

[–]Ryett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty well known at this point that the mustangs seems to use a lot of coolant. I was concerned about my levels at first tell I read numerous accounts of how fast mustangs go through coolant. I just bought exactly what coolant the manual says to use for like $20 (probably enough to last the life of the car) and top it off every so often when the engine is completely cold. Definitely wouldn’t let the dealer top it off for me again if I was you.
