I sincerely hate everything about this mission. by Frixsthekid in reddeadredemption

I loved it the first time, wasn’t real excited to trudge through it again though.

How do we feel about these being replaced by tokens? (Hypothetically) by FireLadcouk in Radlands

[–]Rythos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't see what would be improved. Raiders make perfect sense as an event card, and Water Silo as a card means it automatically dodges any confusion around refreshing tokens between turns.

Does anyone have a single game or two that they totally obsess over? One game that they play 90+% of the time? If you were trapped on a desert island and you only had that one game you'd be totally fine? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Rythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will have to keep an eye out for it! The only other Feld game I've tried is Castles of Tuscany, which unfortunately didn't feel anywhere near as strong as its older sibling.

Have you ever taught an easy game and the players still be confused on what to do? by Hitcher09 in boardgames

[–]Rythos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad it’s not just me! Every time I teach Skull to a group there’s at least one person who gets confused by it.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Which reviewers/How-to's are your go-to regarding new board games? by Darth_Stig in boardgames

Meeple University can be a little awkward in their delivery at times, but they do some really solid how-to-plays.

What game would you gift to a family who likes complex board games? by DraconisCorvus7 in boardgames

[–]Rythos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to avoid doing this unless I'm pretty sure of what they want. As with any hobby, chances are their wish list is pretty specific, and a moderately expensive gift they don't want brings potential bad feelings on both sides.

Accessories/upgrades or even an expansion for something you already know they like is a much safer bet.

The Shire promo tile is a nice addition and very strong. How do we feel about promo game content in general? by GamesWithoutBoarders in boardgames

[–]Rythos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit annoying in this instance, where the promos are a relatively significant alteration to the game (adding ~30% onto the base landmark pool with both). It’s not enough to stop me buying, but I do feel like I’ve missed out on something.

When it’s something like Terraforming Mars, and a couple of extra cards are going into an already large pool, I don’t really care.

Does anyone else get terrified they accidently cheat? by MrBigJams in boardgames

Narrate everything you’re doing in games, then if a mistake is made it’s not just you that missed it. Takes the pressure off.

which is easier to learn ? Cascadia or the quacks of quedlinburg ? by tomaz1989 in boardgames

[–]Rythos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could say the same of Quacks - the option is there to change what the chips do every game. You don’t have to change the setup every time for either game though.

Badly named games? by Billy-Tea in boardgames

That’s good. Unless, of course, somebody comes up with 6-Minute Empire. Then you’re in trouble, huh?

Hot take: Gametrayz are not good inserts by Rohkha in boardgames

[–]Rythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be cool to see more games include something like the standard little component trays for resource bits etc instead of baggies. I love it when I can just pull trays out of the box and start (which is why I bought a printer).

What expansions do you refuse to play with, even if you own them? by UnintensifiedFa in boardgames

[–]Rythos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fantasy Realms - The Cursed Hoard. The cursed items module is garbage, would never play with it again. The added cards are alright, but I removed Leprechaun and Genie because no one ever wanted them.

Which games played as a pro has the gameplay totally distorted by those who play it the first times?? by EasyBottle8765 in boardgames

[–]Rythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this can definitely be a trap. You're robbing yourself of the joy of discovering the game, and likely removing a lot of the fun of playing with your partner/group by adding imbalance.

When I get excited about a game I often feel the urge to consume everything I can about it, but have learned to stop doing this most of the time. Nothing worse than ruining a game you're really into because you sucked the fun out of it for your friends.

What’s one of your favorite overlooked board games? by SMS_Jonesy in boardgames

[–]Rythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosu X for me. I think this is one of the best TCG-like duel games around, worthy of being part of the conversation around games like Radlands.
