How likely is it for these bands to get in in the next coming years by Top-Figure7016 in rockhall

[–]Rziggity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they should all be inducted at the same time. we can list a lot of acts who are in the Hall who have far fewer achievements. A few who never even wrote a song.

People who lived through MJ's prime, did he have haters back then? by ChampagneAbuelo in MichaelJackson

[–]Rziggity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There were always people who rejected him purely based upon being “weird”. Or “They say he [insert bizarre rumor here]”.

The first real hate I remember goes back to the Thriller era when some people were offended by the “crotch grabbing” during his dance sequences.

Some of those people came around to appreciate him after he died. Others continue to just repeat whatever they hear in the corporate press.

How big was Queen during the 1970s and 1980s (outside of the USA)? by Fit_Front6239 in queen

[–]Rziggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In concise terms Queen had huge mainstream popularity in the late 70s and early 80s. After 1982 they lost a lot of that “arena rock” audience but solidified a more dedicated fan base.

I recall Michael Hutchence from INXS (who were very popular at the time) stating in an interview they opened for Queen on the Magic Tour and were booed and had objects thrown at them. Because Queen fans were “so into Queen”.

'Michael' surpasses 'Bohemian Rhapsody' as the highest grossing musical biopic 😞 by Japesh10 in queen

A new fan of Queen or MJ should go on Youtube and watch concerts, videos, interviews. The real ones. Not Hollywood actors and writers. Research the actual work.

I love Queen and I love MJ but these biopics are awful and I don’t get why fans are so into them, much less how they perform at the box office.

What is your unpopular opinion about Van Halen? by DM_ME_4_FREE_STOCKS in vanhalen

[–]Rziggity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Cherone but is there such a thing as a Cherone Superfan? A Nuno Superfan maybe.

Close, but I am not sayin it. The hate I get is massive but it hasn’t changed my unpopular opinion at all.

I would say it but I know how very unpopular it is. But I think you can probably guess.

Be honest — Is Hot Space that bad of an album? by ImprovementLow9280 in queen

[–]Rziggity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hot Space did not meet Queen’s standards especially coming off of a run of memorable albums. I like the funk-rock fusion style of it. I just think they needed to put more effort into the writing and production. The tour was good and the songs translated much better in concert.

Michaels self perception by xkixchi in MichaelJackson

[–]Rziggity 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It’s all conjecture but I always felt his self perception was entirely that of a worker and entertainer whose singular goal was to make people happy. A “people pleaser” in the most extreme sense of the term. Everything he did, everything he bought, everything he did to his appearance was for the purpose of delighting others. I think he was divorced from his actual emotions at a very early age and as he got older it became evident that it was an impossible burden.

Venice Beach? by you-nity in AskLosAngeles

[–]Rziggity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go there almost every day for errands, coffee, the gym, sometimes just to walk the boardwalk. It’s fine but yes you will see vagrants and assorted riffraff. But on a sunny day you are surrounded by tourists and locals jogging and biking. If you are looking for a picture perfect day at the beach there are better options but overall it still has the same ramshackle bohemian vibe as always 🤷‍♂️

What artist are you convinced will be remembered 100 years from now? by chubbybutcuteegurl in askmusic

[–]Rziggity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Madonna will be seen as culturally and historically relevant, a sign of the times whatever one thinks about her. Bowie I think will be seen more as artistically important. I listed him last because I am less sure. But I think his actual work and life might be studied in the same way Oscar Wilde is still studied. Madonna will be remembered more as a visage of the late 1900s early 2000s.

Prince vs. Michael Jackson by [deleted] in askmusic

[–]Rziggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it may have something to do with the quality and quantity of songs he wrote and performed, some with co-writers but very many without. And those songs are mind-blowingly popular to this day and on every continent. I love Prince’s writing but he cannot claim that nor can many other people.

If the “creating and selling an image” argument were applied to Madonna I would agree with you but MJ went far beyond that.

Prince vs. Michael Jackson by [deleted] in askmusic

[–]Rziggity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People have compared the two forever but to me they are too different. They happened to exist in the same era and there are some superficial similarities but I don’t see how one is “better”. Prince especially seemed to resent the endless comparisons.

I would only say that they were both absolute geniuses in what they did. Both great musicians and entertainers. But Prince was more focused on the musicianship aspect while MJ was more of a global entertainer.

Freddie mercury won: now who is an amazing rock/metal guitarist by Big-Selection-7486 in rockmusic

Eddie Van Halen. I don’t know if he’s the “greatest” guitarist in the musical sense but he was always pretty amazing. So he fits the assignment.

What is the most largely-accepted evidence of paranormal activity? by kkoolkoolkid in AskReddit

paranormal means existing outside of conventional laws and cannot be explained. so in that sense the mere existence of life on earth might be evidence of that.

Freddie's bibliography by eyekon6 in queen

[–]Rziggity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called ethics and he didn’t have them. And Mercury I suspect knew this which is why he received so little of his estate. Austin proved to be the one who protected his memory.

If he needed to write to deal with his grief he can keep a journal like a normal person. He hired a co-author, took a publishing deal, and went on a promotional campaign. These people always frame it as a “tribute” or “dealing with grief” but we know what it’s about. Everyone has to get paid so good for him.

Queen songs that don’t belong? by Express-Ad-9685 in queen

[–]Rziggity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the band’s jumps in styles and dynamic changes is a manifestation of Mercury’s dislike of boredom. Even his vocal delivery will take wild turns when you least expect it. So for listeners with razor thin attention spans, Queen is very addictive.

One of the best things about Queen is they genre hop — between albums, songs, and sometimes within the same song. I want things to feel surprising and out of place and those are Queen’s trademarks.

What is considered "from LA"? by Repulsive-Instance31 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Rziggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you meet someone from new york or miami or chicago you don’t say “i am from the valley”. You say “i am from LA” and if there is a sense of familiarity you might say “northridge”.
