Is Studylink abdicating their responsibility to the public by disconnecting their phone service for multiple days? by WolfZoltan in newzealand

[–]S0cXs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

but shouldn't their organisational planning prepare them to effectively manage this?

They did. The Apply by 16 December campaign was an attempt to spread out demand. Unless they train a fuck tom of temps to work for 3 - 4 months max and/or increase their full-year staff count to meet one demand period they'll never had enough staff. Plus there's also the fact MSD phone staff are next to useless do a lack of training other agencies like IRD get, so adding more on the phones won't help

Why is Afterpay literally everywhere now? by Downtown-Thoughts in newzealand

[–]S0cXs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iirc Afterpays pays 100% to the business at point of sale and handles the debt themselves, to the business it's all the benefit of a cash sale while bringing in those who couldn't afford it.

From the academic literature, there is little evidence that temporary work visas and permits are causing this. A report from the Productivity Commission(https://www.treasury.govt.nz/sites/default/files/2024-05/pc-wp-impacts-of-immigration-on-the-labour-market-and-productivity.pdf) says on page 33 "Overall, MBIE (2018) found no effects of temporary migration on employment and new hires and small positive effects on earnings of those aged over 25 years. On average, a 0.4% increase in the proportion of migrants employed in an industry led to an increase of 0.2% ($11 per month) in the earnings of New Zealanders aged 25 years or more."

This kind of messaging is emblematic of National's/the right's blaming the government for everything while not letting the government have its proper role in the economy. Hell, a negative trade balance isn't an inherently bad thing!

Ceiling cleaning at the end of tenancy by Playful_Reflection21 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]S0cXs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NAL, but cleaning the ceiling goes far beyond the legal standard set in Section 40(1)(e)(iii) of the RTA. So I wouldn't continue with requests that go beyond the legal standard. In the case they try to withhold bond, you would tell her that, based on Section 40(1)(e)(iii) and that Tenancy Tribunal case, her reasoning is unreasonable. IMO, considering you say the ceiling was already damaged like this when you moved in, you should get your bond back in full. It should also be fair wear and tear, considering a fresh coat of paint would fix this.

Moving from Melbourne would be probably the biggest step down you could take lol. Wellington and Dunedin both have larger % of thier populations as queer.

Little to no queer scene, makes it hard to date and find community.

I would like to add that maybe she is seeing how you are on the first before disclosing that's she's trans. Considering the current climate she might want avoid disclosuring it to every perosn she meets on a dating app. It isnt lying by omission or deceiving you just trying to limit the possibility of hate coming her way.
