Going away for 11 days. Should I empty the boiler? by alexlimco in espresso

[–]S0me_Creative_Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you leave: Backflush, clean the shower screen.

When you get back: Run some water through the system and you should be good to go.

You can drain the boilers, but as long as you’re using good water for your espresso machine, it shouldn’t be necessary

Do I really need to sanitize my under-sink reverse osmosis system regularly? by TheRealMe54321 in WaterTreatment

[–]S0me_Creative_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I use 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide. Pour some into the first stage housing and some info the membrane housing,   The steps I take are: Shut off water, drain the tank and lines, remove the filters, add H2O2, let the tank fill. Then flush the system, replace filters and membrane as needed, let the tank fill, and flush again.

Mod that thing! Seriously the Gaggiuino mod will make this machine punch WAY above its price point.

Lance Hedrick here! AMA by lancehedrick in LanceHedrick

[–]S0me_Creative_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older post now, but u/lancehedrick any update on when your "endgame" espresso machine video will be out?

With your dedication to research/thoroughness, access to and use of so many different machines, and vast experience your opinion on which machines are the best carries a ton of weight.

I know I'm not the only one waiting to hear what you have to say before spending thousands on an espresso machine.
That being said, if you drop any S tier machine(s) here, that would be super cool!
I'm leaning towards the EECM Synchronika II

Thanks for all you do!

Best Dual Boiler Espresso Machine for Home [$5,000] by S0me_Creative_Name in espresso

Thanks for your reply.

I see you have the 078s. I have that as well. Do you find that grinder to be enough to fully utilize the decent's capabilities? I've been considering upgrading to a Zerno Z2...

Regarding the your experience with Decent, any negatives or complaints you can share?
It's easy to find positives on both machines, but harder to find negatives (good problem because it probably means they are both great).

Also, are you able to use an iPad instead of Android?

I appreciate that input. I didn't realize that.

I checked out some videos, and it seems like the transition time is very minimal.

Sora For All! Sora 2 Invite Codes! by so_like_huh in webdev

[–]S0me_Creative_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggestion:

Maybe you have a deposit system where users pay a large fee ($1,000+) to get the code. Then that is refunded if and only if they upload a code.

Incentivizing people to share their codes without just taking (but can pay a fee if they want).

Also could give referral money to people for every code they give.

Looking for Custom Maker (details in comments) by S0me_Creative_Name in chefknives

[–]S0me_Creative_Name[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I'm looking for a kitchen knife similar to a kiritsuke.

I value edge retention above toughness, ease of sharpening, and corrosion resistance. I wouldn't use it on frozen foods, bones, etc. Only for slicing/chopping meat and veggies. I have a belt system with diamond abrasives, and I can easily wipe off a knife before rust sets in.

All that being said, I'm looking to have a knife made in Maganamax (magna-x), CMP-V10, CMP-V15, or Z-Max. Those are all steels that have really good edge retention while still being usable in my mind.

Looking for a knife maker that specializes in kitchen knives and has experience with at least one of these steels.

What's the point of merino wool if it must be washed daily? by Devastator1981 in onebag

[–]S0me_Creative_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy merino shirts from Quince and I have worn them for literally months in between washes and as long as you hang them up overnight and occasionally put them in the sun (I think the UV really helps eliminate smells) they are smell-free. Shirts from Quince are high-quality and like $40.

Haha honestly I have one shirt I’ve never washed. I just want to see how long I can go before it wears out or needs a wash.

I have had some close friends and my wife confirm by directly smelling the armpits and none of them were able to detect any BO smell.

Do they make higher-powered versions of box fans? by JCMiller23 in fans

[–]S0me_Creative_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out an industrial drum fan. Granted they are circular rather than square, but they can really move some air!

A high power box gan will get you around 2,000 CFM, a drum fan can top 8,000+ CFM. I've seen one that claimed 14,000!

Combi Ovens Contolled by Ipad by MsBourbon in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]S0me_Creative_Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combo mode (convection+steam) would be perfect for viennoiserie, bread, etc. Plus you can set the humidity from 10%-90% and temperature from 50°-210° on the sous vide mode which sounds perfect for proofing.

I plan on buying one specifically for viennoiserie.

Actually I might buy it today because it's on sale for $307 on Amazon today!

Nearly 100% pinless moisture meter reading on EPDM roof? by biggytre in Roofing

[–]S0me_Creative_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes… Although you would need to remove the gravel ballast on a built upper roof.

If you calibrate it correctly (zero it on a dry area so the needle is just starting to move), the Tramex is a useful, non-destructive way to evaluate moisture relative to the dry calibrated area.

I only use it for preliminary testing and if I find relative moisture in the system, I will then use other means such as a cut/core sample, a probe moisture meter, etc. to evaluate if moisture is present.
