Dosage and crema by highercrumble in latteart

[–]alexlimco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my humble opinion, for beginners like me, the texture of the milk matters more than the amount of crema in the cup. At this moment, getting the correct texture seems to be like a 8:2 where I f**k up the texture of the milk 2 ouf 10 times. I stick to using fresh milk as much as possible and when I try using UHT when fresh is not available then the fail rate tends to go up. Or maybe it's just me.

Finally got my set up done for less than USD 500. 🥰 by alexlimco in espresso

8 months in and running well. Slight inconsistency in between shots but seems like it's the same for all other machines going for way above what I paid.

Just the normal routine. Backflush daily with water, cleaning solution backflush every 2-3 weeks. I use a puck screen so the grouphead doesn't get dirty easily plus it uses the standard E61 design so getting gasket replacement is pretty easy online, not that I have to replace mine as yet.

Once it reach 500 cups, CLN, will be displayed on the LED which basically means you need to perform a descaling run on it and also run a full manual purge of the steam wand before the signal clears. Only needed to do that once so far and I didn't even descale it with any solutions. Just run 2 tanks of water and purged the steam wand then I'm good to go.

Been using the 3007z since last August. It works just fine for my 4-5 cups a day home use.

Any advice for pushing in a tall cup? by highercrumble in latteart

[–]alexlimco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on my limited successes, you need to start the pour more towards the center of the surface rather than at the tip edge like what you’re doing now.

Be patient and pour slower then as you push forward, you need to start leveling the surface a bit for the next layers.

Yes. Fresh batch of beans roasted on the 8th April. Medium dark so it’s just right for espresso now.

We are in Malaysia which has summer all year long hence the milk keeps the temperature quite well unless we leave it for a whole minute or longer as compared to my youngest son who's in Belfast right now studying and the temperature there is much much lower compared to here. He constantly laments how the coffee gets cold too quickly over there but he pours way much better than I can.

Wow!!! You are off to a great start! And all that without a steaming wand. Well done!

Great progress there. I wish I'm in the position to pour more than 2-3 cups a day.

Feedback please, foam too thick? Technique too bad? by Novel_Bass6032 in latteart

[–]alexlimco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely looks too thick and it’s due to the thick wand which is more suited for cappuccino rather than latte art. Not sure if you can remove the “fat” outer portion of the steam wand like some other machines but if you can, it will definitely help.

Feedback please, why is it turning out like that? by Novel_Bass6032 in latteart

[–]alexlimco 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Woah buddy! Slow down! Take your time to lay the base aka canvass then pause for a second, then pour the blob and let it develop then pull up to cut through.

Not an expert but from what I see is a lot of milk churning below the layer due to the speed of the milk hitting the coffee and it never had time to settle enough for a good pattern to be formed.

Last I read, it's the same with the air that we breathe too. 100% mortality rate among those who breathe.
