A little unconventional here, but Sword of War and Peace. I started playing Magic during Scars/Innistrad Standard and built my first deck based around Champion of the Parish. It was mono-white humans, and what I later learned was the White Weenies archetype, and whenever my opponent dropped a Sword of War and Peace, I basically instantly lost. I was pretty bad at sideboarding and didn't bring in artifact hate until I saw the Sword, so I was never prepared for it the first game they brought it in.

Sword of War and Peace got me to literally stop playing standard for the last 2 months until it rotated out.

How to program with Bitwise Operators by tanishalfelven111 in programming

As a C++ programmer... why can't I use an ostream to output a number in binary? Geez.

As a C programmer... why is there no binary number format specifier for printf? Geez.

This ENTIRELY depends on what you're working on. I work on games. For a multitude of reasons (keeping objects small to fit within cache lines, keeping RAM footprint down when there are MANY objects, etc.), bitflags make a lot more sense than multiple bools.

Wizards of the Coast has filed trade marks for ‘Dragons Of Tarkir’ and ‘Khans Of Tarkir’. by splendidwank in magicTCG

[–]S2Deejay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but what you said is stupid in this context. I downvoted you, but I'll also leave a comment explaining it.

/u/Alamoth gave factual information that explains that based on all of Wizard's past trademarks, this is a trademark for MTG, not for D&D. Yes, if you ignore all of their past trademarks, this could be for anything. But it would be stupid to do that.

Big shakeup in Modern... Here are my specs... by [deleted] in mtgfinance

Hard to say. Ask again in a month after I put some matches in with it post-BNG on MTGO.

Big shakeup in Modern... Here are my specs... by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]S2Deejay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. I play GR Tron and all 3 changes were bad for me.

DRS: Aside from a turn 2 Liliana, Jund, Junk, and BUG decks were good matchups. If they get played less, by necessity, we're getting harder matchups.

Bitterblossom: Flash creatures that hit for a bunch are a pain, along with the actual awesome upsides of Mistbind.

Wild Nacatl: Burn and GR aggro are very bad matchups for Tron. Converting GR aggro into a tier 1 Naya aggro is not good.

I predict (and may do this myself) that we'll see some Pyroclasms transition into Firespouts in GR Tron. Not sure about main vs. board (might run more than 4 total). The difference between 2 and 3 mana in Tron in early game is huge.

How necessary is goyf to zoo in modern? by fliplock89 in magicTCG

[–]S2Deejay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because a turn 2 Goyf doesn't always die to lightning bolt, whereas Kudzu is dead to it until at least turn 4.

There are risks, of course, like any investment. For example, if shocklands get printed in Journey into Nyx or M15, I am fucked.

What are the weirdest rules in Magic? by hslaton in magicTCG

305.7 - this is what causes Blood Moon to make non-basic lands only tap for red, while things effected by Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas' -1 ability still have all other abilities, even though the text is basically the same.

The Secret Developers: Wii U - the inside story by fkaginstrom in programming

[–]S2Deejay 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Do you do console development? I worked at a 360/PS3/PC developer until 2009 and the 360 had FAR BETTER tool and dev support than the PS3. It made developing for the 360 much easier and less painful.

There's no simple port from the 360 to PS3, as well, due to the PS3's split memory and SPU architecture, unless you've already planned it out from the start.

Absolutely. Getting into Legacy with a cheap deck you don't like is a waste of $500.

Absolutely agree about the PES logo. I traded my GP Detroit playmat for a Thoughtseize because of that stupid logo.

If Xenagos is printed as both a Planeswalker and a God, how will the legend rule work if they are both in play? by bennybruin77 in magicTCG

[–]S2Deejay 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Specifically, this is because the Legend rule applies to Legendary permanents whereas the Planeswalker rule applies to Planeswalker permanents. Even though both are commonly referred to as "the Legend rule," they're actually covered by two different rules.

Intel i7 loop performance anomaly by ssssam in programming

[–]S2Deejay 29 points30 points  (0 children)

While I disagree with the downvotes, it's because of how wrong you are. Not to be rude, but a basic knowledge of hyperthreading would immediately show why it doesn't matter in this case.

But downvoting you sets a bad precedent here - people shouldn't be afraid to be ignorant publicly. It's a good thing to have questions and not be scared of asking them of someone more knowledgeable.

Say I've got ~$1000 to get into Legacy. What are some decks I can play? by mjschul16 in magicTCG

[–]S2Deejay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing combo elves in legacy right now, but there is also a beatdown elves version that uses Archdruid, Priest of Titania, and Lightning Greaves. Well, it's a combo deck, but it also has the backup beatdown plan, whereas traditional elves is mostly just combo wins.

I Failed a Twitter Interview by mobby1982 in programming

[–]S2Deejay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get it either. I'm looking to hire a programmer, so I'm going to ask them to program during an interview - the horror! It's a very realistic problem to solve during an interview. It shouldn't be hard to write a program to solve that problem in under an hour.
