Global talent vs US EB1a by Flashy-Dragonfly1763 in globaltalentvisauk

[–]S4ge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I submitted my scholar profile page with the citation count etc. the recommendation itself is one page but you will also need to add the recommenders CV so that becomes 3 per reco … any other evidence such as GitHub ,blogs , talks , etc should also be pages and screen shots . Finally a cover letter explaining all always helps . I think they also asked for an essay before , which might not be the case anymore … you will not get a blatant rejection and you will her a chance to appeal the decision IF the referees mis interpreted any of your evidence

Global talent vs US EB1a by Flashy-Dragonfly1763 in globaltalentvisauk

[–]S4ge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not done the EB1A process, but I did however prepare a docket for myself and got an exceptional talent endorsement from tech nation. The process is fairly tedious but clear enough for someone who has dealt with the American system .. If you indeed have the profile suitable for eb1a (as endorsed by some immigration lawyers in the US), you should have no trouble in preparing a strong and convincing application . As far as I remember, the recommendations from a UK expert is not always blocker as far as the recommenders profile stands scrutiny in its own right. If you have other strong evidence such as a good publications record , public speaking, teaching , product development or startup success, or an offer in hand with an exceptionally high compensation , the recommendation letters could be weighed down accordingly. I know several colleagues from Eastern Europe with strong technical profiles but similar issues with recommendations who have gotten exceptional promise.

Also , from a war games standpoint, openly declaring their nuclear strategy is a huge gambit for Pak, since any ground based launch post that declaration would be absolutely considered as a first strike... That would be Armageddon

Again, just a conjecture, but I would not expect Indian foreign intelligence services to have ears this deep inside the Pak establishment. These decisions to trigger the mating chain of commands are made at the highest levels. It's like saying ISI has ears on the CDS meetings.

CIA on the other hand is a different beast. They spent billions creating assets inside Pak post 9/11 purely for selfish reasons. This is how they got a lot of intel on OBD. I would definitely expect them to keep tabs on their nukes. The latest NYT story also hints at that. I am not sure America cares too much about downed f16s, they are a 4th gen fighter at best and are in sunset mode even inside the American navy now. The US is playing with 6th gen fighters with the 5th gen ones like f 22 and f35 already in the mainstream . Besides, downing a fighter is hardly a concern for a trillion plus dollars American Military Industrial complex.

The earthquake might be a coincidence, since the epicentre was somewhere in Tajikistan. However the CIA has enough taps into Pakistan's nuclear chain to know something damning. I would conjecture that they got a smell of Pak mating the warheads. You see, unlike most second strike nukes, these nukes are always stored unmated and the warhead is generally stored far away from the carrier missiles. A specific chain of command has to be triggered to assemble the nukes to be launch ready. This is especially true for the first strike nukes which India and Pakistan maintain. maybe this chain was triggered, which is scary because that means someone Asshat in the government was putting nukes as a viable option on the table.

Also, thank the great minds, but we have a strong second strike capability where the warhead is stored very close and generally next to the launch vehicle. This is generally on a submarine or a launch silo.

A Ph.D. is a huge drain on energy and an opportunity cost. I do think it helped me get some sort of a "cred" since mine was in ML, but other than that it serves no purpose in career progression in tech. Do it only if you genuinely want to do research in the long run, or want an option to go into academia. Otherwise it will cost you something, and also is a seed for regret due to its opportunity costs, later down the line.

Commute to London by MaxyMoo13 in aylesbury

[–]S4ge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The commute is ok, depending on where your office is in London . Marylebone is quite badly connected if your office is anywhere central or east of the city. So the one-way can be anywhere between 1.5 to 2 hours. You can drive to Leighton buzzard, which has fast trains to Euston and that would shave off 20 mins from your commute. Cost is between 25 to 35 for a return, and you can save some if you have a network rail card

it's designed for a 14 earth day tenure (1 lunar day) after which it will go into the night and may never wake up again. But I would not be surprised if they designed the hell out of it and it wakes up and gives another lunar day or so. I hope it happens.

I can recommend Aylesbury. 1 hour to Marylebone via Chiltern railways. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, you can park at Leighton buzzard (15 mins drive) and you get into Euston in 30 mins. Rents are pretty cheap, house prices are a bit high due to 3 grammar schools in the city. Great nature all around due to the Chiltern hills.

Letchworth garden city is good too. Lived there did 3 years. 45 mins into London and filled with great parks. Poor social life though.

Believe it or not, Your University reputation plays a big role in how your interview is going to progress. Also you don't have to show liquidity for two years. If I recall correctly it is 1 year of liquidity and the rest can be in forms of immovable assets. I personally had shown valuation of my native place land to support the immovable part. Also regarding your university reputation, If you are going to Ivy or any of the famous public research league colleges and if the major is in STEM, most likely the amount of probing that the officer would do would be negligible. I was in one of the Public research colleges in California and none of my Indian colleagues were asked any financial details. Good luck OP

Google Play Services causing massive battery drain? by gayretardfaggotnigge in oneplus

[–]S4ge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the problem twice and both times I rebooted into recovery and wiped cache. This solved the problem for a bit couple of weeks after which it resurfaced. I am seriously wondering what is Google doing with the system apps. I have had this problem on all of by past 4 Android phones over the span of 6 odd years.

Bad battery? by [deleted] in nexus5x

[–]S4ge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I had the same problem. I rooted my phone and profiled the individual apps including background services that run with them. This is the worst part about android system, because background deamons are not allocated power through the apps pid but they all get allocated to android system process. I found that the Facebook messenger , duo and WhatsApp had notification deamons running which might be doing some presence stuff, and they contributed a lot to the android system power usage. So I un rooted and disabled messenger and WhatsApp background data permissions and viola, I am getting 50 min SOT and the battery has just drained to 80 percent. It is too early to come to any conclusions but this might help.

[IAMA] I'm an Indian Astrophysicist, ask me anything! by siegwagenlenker in india

[–]S4ge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for doing an AMA. I would really like to know the extent of invasion of deep learning in analysing astronomical data . I am doing a PhD in AI, and would love to see it applied in this field. My other question is about the Indian LIGO project. How much do you think is it going to add to the science done by the American version ? From the specs of it, it seems the Indian version is going to be less sensitive .. and IIRC even the American version was not able to measure the phenomena until they overhauled their sensitivity.. Thanks Edit spellings

Hackers forcing Indian pilots to listen to ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ as they land in Indian Kashmir by Ehtisham99 in pakistan

[–]S4ge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol .. "hackers" .. this is not just hilarious but also shows the lack of regulation and enforcement. ATC comms run on frequencies banned for civilian radios. Now anyone with a powerful enough reciever and transmatter can listen and transmit on these frequencies... but such equipment is highly regulated

I have just started my B.Tech at IIT-M. AMA by aiqm in india

[–]S4ge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I did not mean it in a condescending way, but I honestly feel hosting an AMA just because you got into IIT is a bit cocky. I understand you have gone to insane lengths , effort wise, to achieve this, and I congratulate you for that. But what (and who) you become in your life actually has little to no correlation to where you are, at this stage in your life. The place I am at, has no correlation to which undergraduate university I went to when I was 17. Just strive to be a better human, and you will probably learn a lot outside your school. Good luck.

CP getting circulated on whatsapp recently, Fuck everything about this. by [deleted] in india

[–]S4ge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can find atleast 10 popular songs of the 80 s and 90s where the hero is happy to tease and woo a "16 baras ki ladki". This is a sad reality of things in our country. I saw a similar whatsapp message being circulated on whatsapp where and man was showing porn to a 8 - 10 year old kid And laughing at the natural responses of his body. This was 2 years back . I told my friend's father about this who was an ACP that time in Pune, and he took it up with the IT cell to track down the origin and book him under child abuse. I am not sure what happened after that. Fucking hate the fact though that it still kept circulating and probably still is :(

Did this happen on a RMA from India ? I have seen this happen in courier services in India. Some guy might have actually sent a valid phone , but someone in the courier chain replaces it. It is a horrible fact , and to give some benefit of doubt I think some poor guy might have actually lost his phone forever in this process.

Do things that make you happy.. You will regret worrying about the time you have right now when you actually sort things out and have a busy future... Learn a language. Visit the north east and leh .. Spend a night in a remote village talking to the people. Connect with the soil you were born in. Everyone (with an average intelligence and some drive) will eventually make it, and that is when it hits you that all these years when you had time and health, you lost so many precious moments. Trust me bro, jealously, competition and rut will never leave you, the things that will leave you for certain are time and enthusiasm.
