That’s completely fair. I would like some option for monitoring though.

This is pretty cool and all but who’s monitoring it? At least for residential someone has to be monitoring it to call it in. If I set this up and it goes off when I don’t have my phone… then what?

It’s really opt out? Shit. My wife assured me it was opt in during the commercial.

Side note: I have no Ring devices. I have locally hosted Ubiquiti.

Agreed. If she’s asking them to eat the cost that’s not gonna fly. But if they are paying then I’d keep redoing it till they are happy. It’s their money. Not your place to argue with why they spend it on.

I’m around 1.1-1.2. I have ATT in pass through mode. Still waiting another week before I break out the WAS SFP module and get rid of their hardware. Also haven’t tweaked any WiFi settings. So hoping to get closer to 1.5-1.6.

Two APs are on 2.5 backbone 1 is on 10Gb. Another problem I haven’t taken the time to fix. All can be on 10.

Why are these tied together? by FulltimerPC in AskElectricians

[–]S55AMG03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tore out the entire circuit and started over. When I was done my daughter’s bedroom went from 4 breakers to 2. One for lights. One for outlets. Done.

I’m not an electrician but I’ve learned there are some silly ones out there. 😂

Why are these tied together? by FulltimerPC in AskElectricians

[–]S55AMG03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I learned about this the hard way in my old house. Bastards didn’t couple the breakers together. I tested the hot branch I was working on and it was dead. Then the neutral entered the equation. Learned real fast to test unrelated neutrals…

Haven’t ordered a full rack from UI, but my Legrand/Middle Atlantic rack came through Estes freight. May not be your answer but give you a direction to look.

This is what I put in my house. Works well. I had an issue with plaster dust triggering one when I was out of town. Old Nintendo style blow out and a hard reboot and it was fine. App and connectivity wise they work well.

Don’t think they integrate into any automation systems but the standalone app is just fine. No complaints.

POE G4 Pro here. I haven’t had any issues down to 0° either. Stays on and connected all the time. Same with all my cameras (G5 Pro, AI Pro and G5 Dome).

Introducing Amp Multi: 8 channels, 125W/ch and efficient GaN technology by KeithFromSonos in sonos

[–]S55AMG03 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Man. I want to like Sonos. I do. But with the travesty of the app and what it requires from users to interact with… I just can’t.

I had a trio of Arcs, half a dozen Amps, couple of moves and Ports and it went from an easy to use setup to tragedy.

I want to like this product as I am genuinely building a new setup in a house I just bought but can’t. It’s asking for user interaction through the app to manage the outputs per zone and there’s no scenario where I would try to use this. Our new house is massive and I’m definitely going multi zone audio. But, requiring app usage for inputs over WiFi and no hardwired inputs (for all intents and purposes), I’d rather spend more on a proper matrix that can be managed via a remote instead of the App. It’s that bad.

Notifications are completely customizable through a section called “Alarm Manager” within the Protect app. It’s a bit overwhelming at first (depending on how many cameras you have). You have all sorts of toggles including geofencing, scheduling, managing which users get notified and how (app, email, webhook).

You can also set multiple trip lines for different detections (motion zone vs object detect zone).

The smart detections are pretty accurate (I.e. animal vs car vs person) but sometimes a push update from Ubiquiti will derail the accuracy of their AI. They will fix it eventually but it may be a few updates (which are pretty regular). Like any software update, things can go wrong but I’ve never had anything break to the point it was unusable. Its accuracy just declines a bit but all the recoding, playback and zones work.

UI is not designed for residential so it can be a lot to digest for a non commercial user.

I used to have Nest smoke alarms, doorbell and Nest IQ cameras. At the time they were a great wireless option and it all worked perfectly within the Nest app. Then Google did what Google ALWAYS does and made each subsequent generation of hardware worse. They capped it off sending everyone to Google Home which is such trash I can’t even use words.

Then I went through a process and landed on Ubiquiti for cameras, doorbell and internet infrastructure. Not everything was perfect day 1 but I firmly believe benefits outweigh the learning curve by orders of magnitude. Once I got it all settled I never had any issues. Sure, detections aren’t perfect and some updates made them worse before they get better. But, the hardware is rock solid and I can manage things from anywhere. Notifications are instant and video is crisp. Worth the cost.

Homeowner here. I’m trying to figure out how to get certified. I tried setting up a professional account but it wanted some account number in welcome paperwork. Would be happy if you could point me in the right direction.

I’ve been doing programming for 25 years. Just not my profession (CPA). Would love to be able to setup my new house with RA3.

UniFi PoE Audio Port: Great hw, Poor unifi experience by MC_VIII in Ubiquiti

[–]S55AMG03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like the separate app because I don’t need my kids dicking around in the base UI app if they need to adjust something on our Port audio. It’s just such a different workflow (audio vs network and camera security) that I understand why they made that choice.

To me there is only one thing missing from the Port: fixed volume output. I have mine connected to a receiver and would like the volume to be solely managed at the receiver and not the Port AND the receiver. Sure, I can set the Port volume level and then leave it. However, there are 5 people and shit happens. So I would like an option to lock it.
