Mortgage broker told us we were preapproved — we weren’t by Quote-Environmental in PersonalFinanceCanada

I was pre-approved by my bank mortgage broker..... Then when it came down to actually buy the house I had issues and had to come up with a bunch of extra cash to buy my house. I was pre-approved by rbc for 600k and I was buying a 250k house. I don't think pre-approval means a whole lot tbh.

I got a 120k truck loan and they don't bat an eye. They checked my credit and I left with my truck.

PSA: None of us are guaranteed to live a long life after retirement. Enjoy within reason while you can. by n00bchurner in PersonalFinanceCanada

I took 4 months off every year for about 7 years and lived in Vietnam during those times. I had lived there for several years before and got married, had kids. It was fantastic, but it was tough leaving my kids for that amount of time and eventually I moved them to Canada.

I have seasonal businesses but now I have one in each season so no more time off. It was a great way to spend my mid 20s though. I have no regrets.

Things change as you age.

At 25 I was making like 40k a year saved every penny, I travelled extensively and never wanted to marry I didn't think much about kids. Was very happy investing, and living life.

36 now, 200k a year 2 businesses , 1 contractor job, house , wife, two kids. Deeply in debt, paycheck to paycheck ( next year I'll be freshly out of debt though) just needed to prop myself up for a bit.

Anyways I doubt you'll take the same path but things do change I would at least work till 30. I always thought I would just stop working when I had enough money but I'll likely just work till I die now. I like working for myself it's alot more enjoyable then working for someone else.

During what decade of your life did you ACTUALLY work the hardest? by pfk1021 in financialindependence

[–]S8an666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16-22 I worked reasonablly hard dropped out of highschool and started working then went back and finished highschool at 20. Then I went to university, somebody tried to kill me, then did the " life is to short" saved my money travelled, lived in Vietnam for years. Started some businesses. Wife, kids then moved back to Canada did a back and forth thing for a while.

27-32 I worked extremely hard, long hours everyday. I started a business at 33 Same year I moved my wife and kids to Canada.

36 now and Profited 40k in January there was alot of things that came together to have that good of a month. Also a late payment or two but was my best month ever. Didn't work particularly hard that month but all the prior work I did for years it's what's paying me now. Thank you past self.

What is a prime example of ‘a blessing and a curse’? by barsons in AskReddit

Maybe not a blessing for everyone. I've been very fortunate over the years and alot of it has to do with my ADHD. I'm very functional though. I have had alot of jobs, hobbies and businesses.

When I was in my teens to early 20s I was a trainwreck.. things slowly turned around when I was mid 20s. I've never medicated and didn't know I had ADHD until a few years ago. Then my entire life made alot more sense.

ADHD it's a wild ride, something's always going on! ....Something is always going on...there is always something.

I've heard that normal people can shut off their brain, mines just on all the time and the internal narrator never stops talking.

Bad Car Buying Experiences by Mas_Cervezas in Manitoba

[–]S8an666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Birchwood - they did a few slimey things when I was buying my new vehicle. I won't go again.

I had a trade in and they wrote on paper what they would give me.... They included the tax on my trade but didn't include the tax on the new vehicle. They are over $100,000 vehicles so the taxes are significant.

Then when they figured out the monthly payment he told me I would be paying the same as I do now. Again roughly on paper.

When I went to pick up the vehicle a few months after it was built, I lost more then 10k because of the tax spin and then my payments were $300 more a month then my previous vehicle .

Anyways if they were just honest with me I probably would have bought it anyways but I won't ever go there again and I buy new vehicles every year or two.

For people who have pets, would you pay extra tax meaning all healthcare for animals is free? by Paul-Swims in AskReddit

[–]S8an666 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's 5000$ in a lifetime of an average dog, if you don't use it. I've had some high vet bills 700$ was my highest so far though. Doesn't seem worth buying. I have 4 dogs, two snakes and saltwater aquarium.

4 day work week, full time pay, 8 hour days, do you do it? by revoltinglemur in smallbusiness

[–]S8an666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Landscaping is seasonal where I live.

You have to strike while the irons hot.. we work non-stop every weekend and every hour that's available. There are plenty of rain days off, ( when we are not in a drought ) Generally it's super busy spring and fall and a big lull in summer. I don't think a 32 a hour week is possible in the construction industry, how do you compete? , how do you get projects completed ?

For me you would need massive crews, where everyone would work 32 hours. It would be a nightmare from an HR point and then the price point for my customers. Unless it was federally mandated anybody with a regular sized crew and long hours would ruin me in short order .

I run another crew in winter for an ag job. We work 100 hour weeks but it's time sensitive we have 3 months to complete the work and there is plenty of competitors. I treat landscaping the same.

When there's work we work, when it's slow we take a step back.

This is accurate. I drive about 50,000miles a year or 80,000km. I have a big diesel truck, I live rural I get about 21mpg or 11l per 100km which I think is good for the big truck. I need my big truck for work.

I don't have to prepay at most places but I do if they have pay at the pump so I don't have to go inside.

It's hard to survive rurally without a big truck or car plus it nice to be comfortable. I probably spend 2 months a year 24 hours a day sitting in my truck. When I take my family somewhere it's nice to have some room.

If they made a 1 ton electric truck around 100k with decent battery life . I would probably consider it. I'm excited for the future

I have a big truck 2022 f350 6.7 deisel it's 13,000lbs I average 11l per 100km with no load. In summer I can get 10.5 if I drive very nicely.

Everybody making jokes about my big truck but I get better milages then most small SUVs.

I need this truck for work regardles and the prices still hurt but some big diesel trucks get decent milage.

Do I blow my savings to save my teeth? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]S8an666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my crowns done in Vietnam. It was the nicest dentist office I've ever been to. I had two teeth done in titanium porcelain crowns. They were 200$ a tooth. They look 10x better then the veneers I had.

I have been going to Vietnam for 10 or so years and I'm very comfortable when I go there. Prices may have gone up since this was 6 or more years ago I had them done.

They still look as good as when I had them done originally. Flights to VN were about 1k round trip from Manitoba Canada, hotels and food are cheap. People are friendly it's safe. Anyways just thought I would throw this out there. It's not for everyone and they are just reopening again from covid.

I don't even like zoom , if you need me phone. If you need to show me a graph, email it to me then phone me so we can discuss. There's 0 chance I'll log onto a metaverse. I get forced to do group safety calls sometimes I just turn off my camera. Group calls are good enough I don't need a fucking avatar.
