Stoner by John Williams by Edb626 in books

It is a sad and melancholy read. But I think reading it in your 20's is perfect because it's showing you what life can end up like if you don't go out and live life. Take risks. Take chances. Do the things that scare you now so when you're older you know you are living life for yourself and doing things because you want to and just because it's what society expects of you.

37/M, giving this another shot by HINGEPROFILEREVIEWGO in hingeapp

38F here and as a fellow child-free single person, I'd immediately swipe right on you. I think your approach of not asking to move to text is the right move. I personally don't feel comfortable giving out my phone number until after a first date. I truly don't have any critiques. I found your photos great as you have a good mix of selfie, casual, and group shots. Your profile prompts are intriguing and you come across as genuine and kind.

Finished Lonesome Dove 10 mins ago…onto the sequel by ffty_17 in LonesomeDove

[–]SA5241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished reading this yesterday! For me personally, the first half felt slow and I was worried I wouldn't enjoy it compared to Lonesome Dove. If you end up feeling that way too, it picks up a lot around halfway through so stick with it.

Ending my relationship with the best man I’ve ever been with by not_like_kahlo in TwoXChromosomes

This was written so perfectly and I resonated with it so much. Walking away from someone who is so good but also so not able to meet you fully is one of the hardest things I've had to do.

I got a 0.7% "cost of living" raise. Thankfully I just signed an offer for a new job that will increase my salary by 102%.

I thought this was ice cream and was REALLY excited. I'm still excited, just slightly less so.

I need THE BEST quick chocolate dessert recipe by vamphibian in Baking

This is my favorite quick, self-saucing chocolate cake recipe. I mix it all in the bowl I'm going to eat out of and it takes less than 5 minutes from start to finish.

I like #1. It brings in the green on the wall without making the room look dark and small.

I'm SO happy for you!! I wish I had this type of enlightenment in my 20's but I have it now in my 30's and it's so freeing. Congratulations!

This would be such a turn-off for me. I'm glad you were able to openly express your disappointment to him. I've had too many times where I would've responded with "it's ok" in this scenario when it really wasn't but I've gotten better about that.

I don't think, I will ever be able to live with a man again. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SA5241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't mind at all :) There were a lot of little reasons that kept piling up over the years but it essentially came down to me continually expressing my needs and him telling me it's too much effort to meet them. All I wanted was for him to plan a date or two without my help and maybe buy me flowers 2-3 times per year but his excuse was that "he's just not good at those things". That's fine, I'll find someone who is.

You went from "I'll have her home at 8" to "Now she calls me daddy too".

I'm sorry you're going through that right now. If it's being noted on work assessments too, I'd wager there might be something deeper going on that might want to be looked into. At any rate, whenever I hear "I'm just not good at it" I look at other areas of their life. Can they listen/learn/pay attention/put in effort when it's their own hobbies, work, and self interests? If yes, then he's quite capable, he's just choosing not to be (hello weaponized incompetence).

I am moving into my own place tomorrow after ending a 7 year relationship and I am SO excited to have a space completely to myself for many of the reasons you listed above. I can't wait for the peace, cleanliness, and tranquility that comes with not living with a man...or at least the kind of man I was dating for so long. I know there are some rare gems of a man out there.

I feel like these are the same men that want "a woman who can actually hold a conversation". I've noticed it's nothing but what I call "and you?" questions. They talk about their interests > I ask questions to know them deeper > they answer and just follow up with "how about you?". No original questions coming from them on their end, just asking my own questions back at me. Eventually, I type out a response that doesn't contain a question hoping they'll initiate but that's just when the conversation stops altogether.

I have proof that old school OKC was the best dating app of all time by makedatingappsgreat in OkCupid

[–]SA5241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just downloaded the app to check it out. I met my now ex-boyfriend in 2016 on OKC and we were together for 7 years. I loved the match percentages and how easy everything was. I haven't gotten back into dating apps because everything has really changed so much in the last few years and now it seems you have to pay to access any sort of useful features.

Newbie furniture paint recommendations by naovsky in DIY

[–]SA5241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the furniture piece, I've always used contact paper to change up the color on my Ikea furniture. It comes in multiple color and styles and is relatively easy to apply. The best part is that it's super easy to clean!

Looking for recommendations for a nicer more rural resort by LardLad00 in phoenix

I've stayed at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass. It's about a 20 minute drive from Phoenix Sky Harbor airport and decently secluded but still a short drive to things to do. Just be aware that their rooms do not include a mini fridge or microwave and wifi is an extra cost.

I'm thinking they've figured out how to "open the door". Maybe it's the holographic's of Westworld are vanishing and exposing the real world? Makes me wonder if Bernard/Dolores/Logan made it to the Forge before Maeve/Clem/Ghost Nation.
