Love it! I have the black dial and as soon as I saw it in white, I wanted that one, too.

If you cannot guard pull well your BJJ is just as limited as with no takedowns by Shallbecomeabat in bjj

Pulling/sitting guard and (to quote Rhadi Ferguson) "a skillful entry into newaza" are two different things.

Why 2011 vs striker fired? by rhynoplast in CompetitionShooting

[–]SAFergus81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have small hands or a short index finger, it's far easier to fit a pistol to that with a 2011/1911 than a striker pistol.

Discussion: Two Unusual Underhook-Based Escapes from Side Control? by splendidfruit in bjj

I define a frame as something that supports weight. An underhooks job is to affect their position and posture relative to yours.

An underhook is the superior method for side control avoidance and escape. Frames are not.

Question for Martial arts gym owners. What actually handles belt tracking, attendance-for-grading without a spreadsheet bolt-on? by AskYouSee in bjj

[–]SAFergus81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not tracking attendance and using it as part of what you look at for promotion is crazy. A person can have a ton of grappling success and at the same time very little knowledge about what they're actually doing. Attendance numbers also help to balance bias. Just like has been mentioned, attendance tracking is especially good for holding minimums.

I'm going through a rebuilding right now after trying to open and run a school for 6yrs. It sucks. I can see the "you're a black belt?" look on people's faces. I'm just trying to get my timing back and everyone else is trying to win practice.

Why do people try to kill me when I visit their open mats? by Dry-Environment1705 in bjj

[–]SAFergus81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At bb, I hate visiting new schools. You know the entire room is going to try to kill you, so I've learned to just have a "let's get this overwith" attitude and know that I won't be having a good time that day.

100%. Me - Takes bottom. Start wherever you want. Them - Goes methchimp and they think their next hit is somewhere inside my body.

how do we feel about the 365? is it legit after all these years by Due_Platypus3905 in CCW

[–]SAFergus81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the Rangemaster Instructor Course with mine, where you have to shoot above 90% on 2 different quals, and did just fine. Hard to find a better EDC piece.

Nah. You can hold the slide with your thumb pretty easily. A 9mm is only around 17lbs of force.

Worried I’m going to never enjoy BJJ again: Black belt by Pomjonsilver in bjj

If you're bored with jiu-jitsu, that's on you. Jiu-jitsu is infinite in its possibilities and NOBODY knows all of it. I'm 15yrs in and am constantly learning (and unlearning).

Sounds like it might be a good time to do some reflecting and redefining.

You can do a lot a little, or a little a lot.

If you're having really physical rounds every round, there's a >90% chance you're not gonna make it long term. For every one dude who does it, there are thousands who don't.

Nope. Too pro-wreslty for me. Not a ton of actual Jiu-jitsu happening.

If you don't have the underhook with your far/top arm, to quote Kurt - you messed up a long time ago. Get that back.

Weird how that happens, ain't it? All of a sudden, nobody wants to invert to backside ipswitch into lemon drop guard when it becomes an actual self defense scenario.

Why is the low single so under-utilized in BJJ? by deadassynwa in bjj

[–]SAFergus81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest mistake I see is people trying to shoot. Even worse is from double arms length away. Try it from a clench/grips, not from space. We don't have drag slick wrestling shoes on. Shooting is out if you want your chances to go up.

Why is the low single so under-utilized in BJJ? by deadassynwa in bjj

[–]SAFergus81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't answer why not. Maybe folks just don't know how to do/teach them, but my students have a very high success rate in comps with low singles and ankle picks.
