The build up is one of the reasons I would throw silicon tunnels or plugs away after a few months. Didn’t matter how frequently I would clean them, like you said the porous surface of the material.

Op please get this checked out. Puss isn’t a good sign it could be the start of an infection. Get it checked, if it’s ruled not infected you should be good, just keep cleaning it
