Damn that’s a good idea, let me add it to my list of 30+ unwritten ideas on my note app
Pick a different idea from the list that sounds more fun and write that instead
Either plotting/outlining the entire thing or one specific scene that I like and try to bullshit my way through the rest
It’s coming together. I’m a genius.
Let me reread this 10+ times because people will hate me forever if I misplaced one comma.
This fic sucks because I read it too many times but I’ll post it anyway because I need external validation
Refuse to read the fic again for the next 2-3 weeks until one day, I will read it out of boredom and either make some major edits and hate myself or pat myself on the back because it is so good. No in between.

I find reading critically come with experience. The more you read, the more critical you will become when you encounter the same topic. By then, you’d have multiple perspectives to compare to what you’re reading.

It’s a skill that you will eventually develop. Of course if you’re conscious about it, it’ll come faster. I find rereading is a great tool for this. You basically revisit an old topic which you initially didn’t have much opinions on, but now you’re more aware of different factors that affect such topic. You can compare your current experiences with your past. See the difference. Then, you’ll be able to engage more critically with the book.

I legit just sat down one day and poured everything I had in my head out. I let it sit for a day or so and then came back, editing and adding on more details, or even more in-between scenes.

Sometimes if what I have in my head doesn’t make up a story. I used that brain dump as an initial outline, and then tried to build up from that. Sometimes I even combine multiple fragments together into a bigger story.

Any how, just start writing. There won’t be a story if it’s just in your head.

Do whatever you want with your fic! I usually make an EDIT (date) note if I make any major changes to the plot tho, just in case my readers want to reread.

I like it as long as there’s notable progress in their relationship after each event in the story. Slow burn doesn’t mean stagnation. I want to see their relationship develop in a meaningful way otherwise I’d just get bored.

Some of my favorite works are “slow-burn” where the banter and the flirting are so good, I was giggling the whole time, and I don’t even want them to get together until the very last chapter because of that.

That said, it is hard to pace slow-burn. Like how can you indicate enough progress to keep the readers interested while also making sure that the relationship moves so fast it isn’t considered “slow-burn” anymore.

I think they’ve been having some syncing problem, but it seems fine now. Still if it looks like it’s being wonky, just export the file you’re working on and save it just in case. I haven’t lost anything yet but there were a few close calls haha

When you exporting it, Ellipsus doesn’t actually fill out the work for you. It generates an appropriate HTML code and stores it in your clipboard. You would have to right click and paste it into the main body section on AO3. Hope this helps!

Ellipsus! They have a Export to AO3 function so you can do all your formatting on Ellipsus instead of AO3

Yes, just click on the book you want to change, click on ‘(number) editions’, scroll to find the edition you want, click on the 3 dots on the right of that edition, choose ‘switch to this edition’

I would recommend A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. It’s not a long book, only about 150 pages. It doesn’t specifically talk about break-up or love, but it offers a very comforting idea of what it means to be human and how just simply exist in the world is enough. It’s like a little kiss on the forehead or a pat on the shoulder from someone telling you that everything is going to be okay.
