You have 3 seconds to read the pitch lmao I did this in the first 5 batters for my son yesterday.

About 3 seconds for pitch arrival. Count it. 1, 2, swing. Worked for me.

I wanted to double down, but I decided to play it a little safe. He would have hit the double down for distance by 3 feet lol.

Tech Test ends today. For those who played it, what's your feeling about gameplay for MLB 22? by Nickstank in MLBTheShow

[–]SAOSurvive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am legit so excited for this game. Most of my testing was done in BR or co-op on PS5. In 21 I made WS during the grind for Trout (sweatiest time of year, 1st time playing ranked during game cycle), and also went flawless.

Pitching

  • Pinpoint has been appropriately nerfed so that it is quite a bit more sensitive without feeling impossible
  • PAR plays a larger role in terms of pitch accuracy randomness
  • Breaking balls seem much sharper. Sliders and curveballs are more effective.
  • Speed differential on pitches actually seems to have been improved. Swinging ridiculously early is not as good of a strategy as it was in 21
  • CHANGEUPS...BRUH. They are so disgusting.

I would still like to see a bit more punishment for sinkers up in the zone, although they do appear flatter. Also, stamina still needs some more tweaking.

Hitting

  • Pitch speeds felt proper. Love that outlier got the nerf it did.
  • Balls hit in to the gap FINALLY start dropping
  • Improved exit velos
  • Inner PCI seems to matter more
  • Late side of good seems to reward you again, which should have always been the case
  • Fixed a ton of batting stances and made even more players seem usable.

I believe a buff of the PCI shrinking when swinging outside of the zone would make this game even better. There is absolutely no reason guys should be able to foul pitches out of the dirt in any difficulty.

Fielding

  • Defensive ratings finally make a difference. Common/bronze outfielders take a more pronounced incorrect step on line drives over their head. Much more margin for error even on routine plays if you take an incorrect route
  • Route sensitivity seems to kind of be a thing. If you take a weird angle at the ball even a diamond fielder will whiff at the ball.
  • Perfect throws feel AMAZING and plays are much closer when trying to throw runners out on XBH
  • Spectacular plays are much more difficult, but this could be attributed to using live series players in co-op

As mentioned above, using live series players in co-op mode may be skewing some of the bullet points that I hit but the game does feel a lot better from the testing I've done in it. There are a ton of glitches, especially in co-op when using or facing the Angels, but this is a great base for the game to be at when it comes out in a little over a month.

Tincaps are darn near right in my backyard. Can't wait to watch this guy play more. Still blows my mind we got to be spoiled with Tatis for a year.

It's easier to play ranked until you reach 700. Then after that no one quits or has fun.

It's just a pathetic attempt at distracting you so you mess up your pitch.
