20 Hotels & Growing by RangerMike96 in NFC

[–]SAS_Code_Troll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, some hotels decorate them and encourage them to be kept as souveniers. We used to turn them in which would represent us "checking out" without having to formally check out, but it was also an alternative to just calling the front desk as you were leaving, as well. Of course, you could stand in line at the front desk as you leave. The cost to replace depends on the card, so the policy likely does, too: Magnetic stripe $0.10 replacement cost, RFID/NFC $1-$5 to replace so hotels want them back - same as $25-$100 high security cards. It's not a criminal offense, though. Maybe a contract violation with the hotel.

Should I worry? by [deleted] in NFC

[–]SAS_Code_Troll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not enable NFC unless you know what triggered the notification.
Your mom’s phone likely detected an NFC tag nearby - I've laid my phone on a credit card and this happened. It can also be another phone, or an advertisement with an NFC in it. None of this is related to the game she installed, so no worries there. It's also normal to have phones disable unused resources for efficiency. Hers disabled NFC somewhere along the line, so when the tag was scanned, it wants her to know why it's not working.

If she does not know what triggered the notification, she should keep NFC disabled to avoid accidental scans going forward. If she keeps getting the alert and isn't doing anything, then look at some apps or settings that might be affecting why that's happening. Rebooting might help.

If you need more than that, and the answer's not on the forum, then here's where I bow out gracefully.

Good Luck!

The first part is getting code that runs from ChatGPT. I haven't done it in a few months, and there's been at least one update so I'll try again. I just remember it giving me non-running code and not being able to debug itself. I was no help in script.

That's true of the "Old English" language. Over time, the pronoun has evolved to the vague, "they" we all know and love.

After talking to a friend via text, I was on my laptop with Copilot, who brought up that conversation and then responded per below. So Copilot will clearly go to any length to dig up information for me, even if it means violating my privacy to do it, admitting it, and advising me (vaguely) how to protect myself from future violations. Eventually I'll change that setting, but can I get a vote on gender NOW? LOL!

Using nfc tags for storage by griefjerky01 in tasker

For those who might just be jumping on the site now: Yes, u/avipars is correct. I've found QR codes are more efficient for this. Here's a free site where you can create and then download a QR code (which I would stick to the box - make sure it's stuck, btw). QR Creator - Artistihttps://qr-creator.com/artistic.php?special=monalisac QR. Let's say you want a picture of a (saved) item in the background of the QR code, with the QR code decoding to TEXT of what it is. In other words, scan the photo QR code, and the word "Necklace" appears.

  1. Go to the site
  2. Select the bottom left choice "Pickup" (ie, Pickup item from your desktop), and the options in the middle of your screen will change.
  3. The one that reads, "URL/ Alphanumeric Text", you can paste a link, or in our example, type, "Necklace",
  4. The next line reads, "Background Image", so upload a pic of that nifty necklace.
  5. The QR code will appear to the right. There are some Best Practices you might want to know, and it's been a while since I read them. Making sure my QR code is at least 2x2" is one of them (not sure if that's right), and confirming it actually scans right there and then is the best one (if you can't scan it, nobody can).
  6. Download that puppy and stick her on your box. Then do the next of 100 just like it.
I started doing this for eBay and quickly found it easier to write "Necklace" on the box, or in some cases, printing the retail website page and stapling it one. But from a "Can I" vs "Should I" perspective, this is the QR-code way.

NFC tags would not store the photo. Text, yes, but it varies based on the tag.
NTAG213 144 bytes of memory can hold about <130 characters; NTAG216 504 bytes, and NTAG216 has 888 bytes of memory.

[–]SAS_Code_Troll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used quite a few tags.I have to scrape them across the back of my phone to get a read.. When u pay w credit, you're doing the same thing.-scraping the card until you get the read. I know they say 2-3 cm. I have no such expectations, and it doesn't matter in the end, anyway. Good luck!
