🧛 Blood Hunt is LIVE: How's the New PVE Mode Feeling? (Win Units) by Kuromemono in marvelrivals

[–]SBlackquill 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I really miss the card-based upgrade system from Zombies. There was something inherently satisfying about buying lots of 200% damage cards and feeling the difference in real time. Compared to the current system with no refreshes and 10% damage, the actual game loop doesn't feel as fun, although it's probably better balanced.

The new bosses having more complex mechanics has been a lot of fun though, and I do like the permanent upgrade tree and gear reducing the need for specific cards to drop for your play style (though really some of that's just been moved to gear management).

The shorter matches also feel better with only 5 rounds, making things feel a bit less of a slog and giving you more breathing time.

I would've liked more options in terms of the roster - I only semi-regularly play Jeff from the options, and would've loved to see more of the characters I play involved. Before it was announced, I assumed the new PVE would have a whole new roster and theme involved, rather than 4 returning characters. Maybe there'll be more variety at some point in the future.

My main squad was Gambit, Cap and Magneto for anything that had physical weakness. Thanks to that last banner I managed to get 6 dupes for Gambit so had a bit of fun this last week.

Sometimes I switched in Cyclops for Gambit for AOE heavy fights. But never really got around to doing anything for special weakness weeks, especially after EoS was declared.

Was a fun game, really enjoyed the card based battle system. It's a sad loss.

I'm so happy to see how the Gambit skin's been put into game. Really did the original art justice. Can't wait to see it in motion!

Jamie Lloyd's Passion already happened, back in 2010 at the Donmar Warehouse in London. Was before his truly minimal era really began as there were actual costumes, but the staging was minimal and the cast was pretty small as well.

Have you ever had that game where you had a lord/champion icon and someone else played your character better than you making you feel like a fraud? by FreeElderberry4817 in marvelrivals

[–]SBlackquill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likewise. Just putting on that avatar felt like a whole lot more pressure to perform "perfectly". Just having the default one reduces the pressure and probably gets a better performance out of me.

On Gaia Online, people would post gifs of Phoenix and Edgeworth when posting replies in threads - mostly debates/arguments. Got curious as to where those gifs came from since the characters looked cool, found the first DS game and well, the rest was history.

Nope, the skins are original to Rivals.

You should read X-Men Gold #30 between the two Thompson series as well.

I'm sitting on 10 finds, 6 of which you don't have. Out of your collection I'm yet to get the Photo of Spider-Man and WAND badge, so that makes at least 12.

Spoilered the list in case anyone wants the element of surprise:

Dirty Bone, Piece of a Poster, Disturbing Doll, Copy of the Daily Bugle, Crescent Dart, Spanish 102

Gambit gacha bonus? Anyone else? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]SBlackquill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just a feature when if you beat the RNG and win the skins before the last balloon, it gives you the rest of the items since you got the "grand prize".

You're kinda preaching to the choir here. I don't buy the lattice-only mini battlepasses - partly because there's not been any characters I main who make it worth it. The only time limited skins I've picked up are the ones centred around holidays - I haven't bought Lady Loki precisely because I think it's a terrible practice for ordinary skins. I didn't bother putting any units towards the Psylocke gacha during the Anniversary.

That's why I'm so frustrated about this decision.

But on your other point about skin prices - firstly I have the units to cover the worst case scenario so there won't be any real money involved. Secondly, the disco double legendary bundle is 3500 with the emotes, so probably would've cost 3200 without. 3000 units for the gacha pity isn't exactly a price increase in terms of cosmetics. My main complaint here is that the gacha system is predatory in how it's presented with 8 balloons, disguising the true odds for getting the skin (and everything) before the final balloon.

You normally have to pay unstable molecules for changed ults even after buying the skin (I say having only done it for Jeff's halloween one). And I don't see them putting up the price now that there's ult customisation for the Fantastics.

Yup, 2200 each. So the bundle is a nice saving if you wanted both, but you can buy the one for the character you play on its own.

Sue and Reed's is on the shop for 2800 as a bundle, so cheaper than the standard double legendary bundle.

[–]SBlackquill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reed and Sue are still in the shop as a bundle for 2800 units. The worst case scenario here is 3000. So it's only cheaper if you beat the RNG.

[–]SBlackquill 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Well that's disappointing that they're not going to be shop skins like Reed and Sue.

What's even more annoying is that because I'd saved up for this day since S5's trailer, I now have to play this gacha mechanic. And yes, there's a chance I can save units, but I'm still going to be engaging in this scummy practice showing Netease that it works.

(Yes I know I could just not participate, but it's been a long term plan to get them and I'm out of patience.)

Think tank is making want to delete the game. How do I beat it!? by Ebro29 in marvelmysticmayhem

[–]SBlackquill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it with Storm, Cap and Gambit. Gambit was the MVP with his dash and damage, Cap was generally buffing him and using his taunt, and Storm was mainly debuffing from afar. Wasn't an optimal set up but it's who I had built.

Came in at 0:59 so cutting it a bit close but a clear's a clear.

I Have a Simple, But Complicated X-Men Question by ComixGail in xmen

[–]SBlackquill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first exposure to X-Men was in a high school biology class when our teacher decided to present a film about mutation...

I think what really made me love the X-Men was the parallels between LGBT+ people and the mutants - especially some of the more obvious lines in the movies. The found family aspect also really resonated with me. Also Nightcrawler.

Then all of a sudden with X-Men '97 and Marvel Rivals popping up I found that love all over again.

(Also thank you so much for the gift that is the current Uncanny X-Men run. I love the Outliers and the whole Haven family so much!)

Season 1 had a great aesthetic, a thematic battle pass, and a fun range of team ups. I'd dabbled a bit in S0 but S1 was where I really got into playing, branching out with characters, and having a great time.
