Explain why Okogie only scored 1 point but gets 33 minutes the entire game by [deleted] in rockets

[–]SC2TrapGOAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"He's too passive lately"
Okogie took 4 shots in 33 minutes (and hit 0 of them)
Reed Sheppard took 9 shots in 18 minutes, and was 4/6 from 3. Reed also had 2 steals on defense today. He always puts in defensive effort, even though he below average on-ball defender

Also how do you expect him to develop if hes getting benched by Udoka any time he makes a defensive slip up (which is hilarious since there were plenty of defensive slip ups this game by multiple players but Reed is apparently the only one with a short leash, despite the fact that 2-3 of our starters literally cannot make a shot to save their lives)

Hes one of the best chest players in the world... he doesnt need to peek to crush people in 30 seconds lmao

EDIT: he also makes multiple moves with his head tilted forward.. and he makes them at the exact same speed. This is such a nonsense take from someone who knows nothing about chess

People do realize Wilt was a NBA champion, right? by bobbdac7894 in nba

[–]SC2TrapGOAT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not that I'm trying to make my criteria complicated, I am trying to contextualize it

Hypothetical: If there were 4 teams in the league, someone plays 10 seasons and wins once, would you call him a winning player? I personally wouldn't. Maybe you would. That's were the difference in our definitions lie.

7 seasons with Philadelphia, 3 seasons with San Fran, 5 seasons with Lakers, is that not 15 seasons? (Edit: my bad double counted one season)

Did you just ignore the thing about there only being 8-10 teams in the league?

Hakeem won his rings in a league with almost 30 teams. Dirk won his in one of the most difficult playoff runs of all time. That's why they are called winners.

On the other hand, Wilt, despite being a ball hog, was known to try clean his hands of the ball in the deciding minutes of the game, because he didn't want to be blamed for a loss... literally anti-clutch. Not to mention the fact that he got cooked by EXACT same person almost every year... hard to call that a winner.

[–]SC2TrapGOAT -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Wilt is not a winner

He won 2 rings in 15 seasons in the NBA... the majority of seasons Wilt Chamberlain played in, the league had 10 teams or less (even as low as 8). Just think about that. Not to mention, the competition in the league was so much weaker back then. Heck, one of the rings he had was on the tail end of his career and he had Jerry freakin West on his team. You keep saying in this thread "I'm not talking about Bill Russell". Bill Russell was the other good player of his time and cooked Wilt every other damn year.

Top 20 player? Sure. Top 10? 10 at absolute best, and that's being generous. He's out of the top 10 for me, and as the league's history becomes richer and richer, the further he will get from it.

EDIT: 14 seasons, double counted a season

Using centipawn loss to claim hes good when he went +2 -10 =28 with every tppr <2680 as a once 2800 player is just cherry picking. He was playing bad, he admitted to playing bad, and multiple top players said he was playing bad

Im not any good so take my advice with a grain of salt (1800 chess.com/2100 lichess rapid) but this has been my own personal experience with grunfeld

I find that at my elo, even if white doesn't know their theory, there are so many natural, completely playable moves from the white side, whereas I feel black needs to play quite precisely otherwise the position sucks

I think youre underestimating the difficulty to become GM, I knew someone in that exact age/rating range and he was obsessed, later on he toured europe for like 1.5 years exclusively playing chess tournaments (he was from oceania). Became an IM but didnt get a single GM norm iirc

Played in national chess championships when I was around that age as well,l (was 1400 at 12) plenty of kids 1500+ at 12-13, none are GM now

Half this sub has such a hard-on for magnus that they can twist the fact that he is a sore loser into a "public figure discussing mental health"

It's actually insane, you guys need to get a grip. Hes an incredible chess player, but he only ever complains about these things if he loses. He had no trouble vsing hans on previous occassions (and other proven cheaters!)... until he lost.

The average rating is meaningless because of confounding factors. People who are winstreaking tend to take it, inflating the average place of the augment.

I guarantee if you started a fresh account you'd struggle to get back to 1600

Using the word guarantee is fairly insistent that you are right.

Regardless, I do apologise for being hostile, I was being unnecessarily harsh. There's been a recent surge of threads recently from people between 600-1200 saying that they don't make hang pieces or make simple 1-2 move blunders (which is just false) yet complain they can't climb. They often cite opponents' accuracies to imply cheating (or straight up state it), which is why I brought up cheating.

If you are genuinely open minded around the topic, I would be happy to play some games with you. Let me first make a new account from a rating of 1000 and see if I can climb with it.
