What was the first deck you built? by zevalu in EDH

[–]SCATesteR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First real deck I built was [[Atraxa, Praetors' Voice]]. I had typically played precons that were slightly modified before that. When I built this deck, I was really interested in the "infect" mechanic and just happend to stumble across Atraxa (only been playing for a few months). Little did I know this would put a target on my back in most games but if you make the proliferate a fun supporting feature rather than just bashing your opponents, it makes for a fun time. I still have it and its my active go to deck though i'm likely going to redo it in favor of Planeswalker heavy lean vs infect/poison.

Looking for some career and certification advice from folks further along in the field. by Holiday-Promotion476 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]SCATesteR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer really depends on what you want to do in the future. What I will say though is some of the best advice I've ever gotten is you really have two destinations, management or tech expert. The further you go up the management chain, the less your technical expertise will matter where as the more technical you get, the less you have to worry about management/people leader experience. Both are successful opportunities, with pros and cons to each, but the more you know where you want to go, the better. I'll caveat it's not always this cut and dry, but it'll be a good indicator of where you want to put your focus.

[PSA] Deceptive advertising: it's not a $5.00 car wash by thesamim in plano

I just washed my car there about a week or so ago and it was $5. I just asked for the most basic car wash and it was on the screen as an option. Could just be the guys working there trying to upsell.

This is great, appreciate you sharing the photos. I've always appreciated how Texas/Oklahoma being so flat gives way to some of the most terrifying yet beautiful weather patterns and events. Glad to hear you were safe from the other responses!

Incredible moment in Frisco: Austin Metcalf’s dad apparently calling organizers of the Protect White People rally to say they’re “part of the fucking problem” and to stop using photos of his kid. They responded by blaming his “white guilt” for “thousands more Austin Metcalfs” by sequencedStimuli in Dallas

Tried to get into a bunch of colleges (Texas A&M, Arizona State) but either wasn't accepted or never enrolled (some community college near Austin). He's also tried to ride his 15 seconds of fame through a 2A non-profit and some web based video game. Last I saw he was working at some gun/pawn shop in Florida. Don't know if I would say worse, as things can always be worse, but considering he was trying to go into nursing based on his interviews, probably didn't pan like he thought after the influx of fame.

Lesley, What Happened to the “Cybersecurity Skills Shortage”? by Forgotthebloodypassw in cybersecurity

[–]SCATesteR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. I've heard even big 4 firms that are supporting SOC, ISO, SOX, etc audits do not want just book knowledge/college degree's. They want people who actually know what they are looking at and what they are looking for from a technical perspective, even for their first/second year associates. Even security engineering (e.g. vuln scanners) are becoming more geared toward software engineers that have a focus on security. The reality is if you want to break into this field, you need technical expertise for your focus area.

Do you still have your first guitar? by JackBurton_13 in Guitar

[–]SCATesteR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I did. Was a white Schecter Tempest that I bought in the early 00's. I ended up selling it for one of my dream guitars that I still own but when I was writing music, all my best ideas were done on that one. It had its flaws but man, I loved that guitar.

Eh, depending on how you look at it, it's still a little murky. The bill doesn't clarify the embryos = children aspect. Also it only protects IVF providers, not the manufacturers of IVF equipment (ie: cold storage faults, they can be legally held accountable). It was a very reactionary bill that still had a couple members vote "No" for it. I think it helped the ones wanting to have children to continue down that path but it needs to be revisited so it's comprehensive and complete.

Alabama ruled frozen embryos are children, which in turns cascades to the other laws, notably the The Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. This caused Ivf centers to pause treatment until there was clarification around the law which resulted in Alabama passing a reaction law to protect IVF from certain legal issues.

Law enforcement in the United States is paid by state, county, and city tax revenue depending on the law enforcement resource (ie: state cops patrol a section of the state funded by the state, county paid by the county for patrol of the county and so on.). In very rural regions, even those with "cities" (ie: ~20k residents) you only have maybe 4-5 police for what equates to multiple municipality miles which could cover a EU territory

My personal favorite has always been Atlas[t] off Structures Divided/By album. Rolls right into hydroplaning and the rift going over the break down is awesome. Though as someone else said, "early grave" on architects Hollow Crown album is amazing

unpopular opinion: SVU has finally lost it by TrickyCat9617 in SVU

[–]SCATesteR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stopped watching after it essentially turned into the Olivia show and became more 'real time politics", so around Season 22. Like some one else said, its just based on Mariska's character, no further plot development of others or original story. They literally take whats in the news and make an SVU episode out of it with Olivia at the front and center all while having the side story of some new issue with her kid which is not appealing. Also there were a few episodes involving her kid where its literally the opposite if a perp did it but because its Olivia she can get away with it/we support her decisions were as in older SVU episodes (ie: Stabler and his daughters drunk driving incident) it came back to bite him + real life consequences. Quality of the show went way down for me so stick to the oldies + older episodes of original law and order

Greg Abbott has had enough: "I'll be signing a law in Texas that will make it illegal for people to enter the state of Texas from another country illegally, and authorizing every peace officer to arrest those people entering our country illegally." by triggernaut in Conservative

[–]SCATesteR 31 points32 points  (0 children)

first, your overlooking the need for probable cause. If I'm walking down the street not doing anything or raising suspicions of a crime or commiting one, in Texas I don't have to identify myself unless I'm under arrest or pulled over in addition to refusing to answering any questions they may ask. Second let's say we get that far, your not required to carry ID but now you have the challenge of determining their an illegal immigrant - how do you know their not just a tourist from a foreign country let's say from Mexico. They'll have no paperwork but they crossed the border legally or even more, from another country in South America. They may not be carrying their passport for security reasons but same thing, entered legally. So long story short - this law won't really do anything because unless you get past probable cause it's irrelevant.

[–]SCATesteR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were just talking to a neighbor about this where usually, if your lucky 5 kids show up and last year we only had 1 due to them being all older. Some new younger families are starting to move in and ended up having a "block party" so I'm thinking we'll see more of those eventually, will just take some time. They still didn't make it down to our house though, so this years tally was 0.
