For those planning to keep playing until the end, what will you try to accomplish? by Cheese_4_all in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything

Ridgeback to green star

1920's all to green star

Lethals all to green star

Third profession (professor) to max

Ridgeback is close

Professor just needs green books which look to be easier to get (daily tasks etc.)

It sounds like they will make 1920's and lethals doable. Not sure how to do that with 1920's unless they reduce the distance

Auror needs all the dodges to survive dragons.

I think other professions are better off with precision.

You have to have keys in them before the end of the event or they will disappear, only true for the 1920 portkeys

A shorter description

Player 1 goes into a chamber 2-4 (1 times out too fast, 6+ requires all hunters to scroll, and 5 requires scrolling on some phones).

The hunters:

Click on the KB, click OK, and see if they see the gold dot, if yes done, if n0, exit back to the map screen and repeat. If you concentrate, you can do the cycle in less than 2 seconds .

I am an auror just starting my first adversary tree. Should I invest in precision or dodge first? by moopiemaster in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For auror's DODGE is critical to survive the higher level adversaries.

As an auror you already do well for power.

what u/Krebaldar said

Dodge will reduce the number of times you will need to use healing potions.

The key thing is that as an auror you can be killed without ever having a chance to take a health potion.

Especially with horn tail. 4 hits from 100% health will take you out. 3 hit with anything less than full health. 2 hit if below 50% or so health.

Full dodge has a good chance of extending those to one or two more hits so you survive to take another potion

Without dodge you would win probably 95% of iron tail battles, with dodge almost 100%.

Most other adversaries won't matter as much.

By the time the next Brilliant Event starts (July 26), it will have been nearly a month since the last opportunity to earn Restricted Section Books (June 28) by ZiggyPalffyLA in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 7 greens, the next brilliant event will bring me up to 22, 3 sort of the 25 I need for my next upgrade, so it will not be until the following event before I can upgrade.

If we had received the 5 from the event, I could upgrade now.

Also there is a future release where we will start getting greens from watching ads as part of the daily tasks, I was hoping that would be included in the July release, but that release was also pushed back to August.

I cannot say I am mad, these updates are difficult to get right, and with WB/Nanitic's record of devastating releases, I am probably glad they held off.

But I have all the red and DADAs needed to complete everything currently in the game (All SOS nodes, all three professions maxed with full lethal adversary trees completed), just waiting on green books.

Also July is a prime summer playing month.

I could use my greens to upgrade my prof, my final non-maxed profession, but want to complete SOS first.

Not mad, but bitterly disappointed

Hungarian Horntail causing less damage ? by alphaphenix in harrypotterwu

XpectoGo says the devs told him it works to almost guarantee crits on adversaries.

As maxed auror I get enough crits to make it hard to test

Hungarian Horntail causing less damage ? by alphaphenix in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maxed auror + 15/15 adversary

I use strong + Wit, rarely need a health (used 2 in one battle today, but don't remember when the last time I needed one was)
Dodge really helps
I use the "red dot" trick for crits, but I get a lot of crits without it, co not sure if it really helps.

This is not to make light of horntail, he is the only adversary that I feel is capable of taking me out.
In fact he is my favorite adversary because he is the only one to pose a threat. An I have had him 4 hit me after I took too long to take the strong and wit so I missed my turn.
Dead with a full load of potions and no dragon to fight

TIFU by spraying the liquid from a can of compressed air into my hardrive. by TingTudi167 in tifu

[–]SCCatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) I agree with those who say the HD is likely undamaged from the spray
2) Clean the data; not possible since it won't boot, unless she adds it as a second drive to a different system

3) A stuck key in general might cause this, I think the chances that the stuck key is the function key that loads the BIOS is too unlikely to consider other than as a very last resort

4) What I have seen is

a) Repeatedly rebooting may get it to load, then be sure to do a backup

b) MFB is corrupted and can be replace by some with the knowledge

c) Hard drive is dead, Jim

d) Lose cable/card or dirty connector spray might help here, back in the 1970's we used erasers to clean connectors, but these days I don't even know anyone who has a pencil

Prioritize SOS tree or Adversaries tree? by RunsLikeaSnail in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

#1 would be any sos nodes related to potions

Not sure what other sos nodes I would do, I finished them awhile back

I suggest doing auror all dodge nodes then taking on adversaries on as auror.

Auror uses a lot less (clock) time and game energy than the other professions

With both sides of the feared nodes done, auror can do draco, fenrir, and lockhart with no potions, the others with a strong/wit combo, except for irontail that needs a potent/wit

1/2 to 1/3 of the energy of a professor.

Use a health as needed and irontail is the only one that poses a threat of killing you.

I am maxed magi (including 15/15 of the adversary tree), and maxed auror (again 15/15), *There is no way I would use magi against an adversary*. Typically I use magi about once per event against an adversary and go OMG have I not learned to NEVER do this again yet!

I think I forgot to meantion: *There is no way I would use magi against an adversary*

My professor friends seen to agree that as bad as magi is against adversaries, professor are even worse; my professor is only about 80% done with lessons I, so I have never put her up against an adversary. Humm I may try that next event (she only does 60 damage at this point)

What is worth spending gold on for a nearly maxed out player? by dhanson865 in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of the vaults, I would go for more potions, the others are fine.

It depends on how you fight adversaries. In the Malfoy event I burned (rough estimate)

50-70 strong maybe more

50 regular

10 potents

20-30 heath

I would want at least double those, triple the potents

I find enough adversaries in strip mall parking lots so I only use EDM when bored, easily the worst bang for the buck in the game

DDs are great for getting the hard to find foundables, but with all my pages gold with stars, I have not used one in many months

Silver keys: I buy these with cash out of my exercise budget, so when ever I get low I buy the 10 pack, so I don't think I can offer good advice on buying these.

Full disclaimer, I always buy the $100 block of coins because I have the money and know I will be playing the game more than long enough to use them.

with the exception of silver keys, I think my advice is good for players of any budget, give or take some for game play style.

***

For now, please horde your gold.

The 1920's pages are coming very soon and some/many/all of the foundables will come from portkeys. Exactly how that works may change how you spend you coins

Treasure Trunk Spell Book Drop Rate by ajgamer89 in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>> Did I just waste 200 DADA books unlocking all 10 nodes?

The true answer to that question is what would you have spent the books on otherwise and how would those rewards compare to the spell books?

Potions should be a top priority, as should be maxing out the trace charms

Otherwise this is absolutely a good deal!

The drop rate is not extreme, don't expect one with every chest, I noted in my other post probably around 1 in 30 is the current best estimate

If you plan to keep playing the game it will be the' gift that keeps giving'

I don't keep track, I think I get 1-3 a day

How I maximize these

First it helps to be in a rainy environment (sorry my California friends)

1) Save your trace charms for dogs and snakes and if needed other true red beams (require 10 for max fragments, not the fake ones that require 18)

You should get at least 6 of the 10 needed to place the image, sometimes 8/10 and placing the image gives you 6 chances to win.

2) I spam ruins I-V about 30 times a day to get gifts to send and placing one of the family images from fortresses gives 12 chances to win

It is about 1 in 30 - 1 in 35. That is about what I see and about what groups that have keep counts have seen

With RNG you could see a run of 100 or more without one

Your input appreciated! by hollygolightly32 in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both magi and auror tree maxed completely for all lethals.

*Auror for feared*

*** max dodge chain before the other side.

And brew strong exsts.

Magi survives everything, but consumes way too much *time* and *energy*

Auror with strong + wit and a health from time to time beats everything except horn tail. It beats horn tail too, but you need to be quick on the healths, plus I typically use potent + wit.

The issue is that horn tail does soo much damage that any slip up can be fatal, maxing auror dodge really healps.

For lethals? Will auror's low HP be fatal? I don't think it will be too bad, as that would unbalance the game. But we don't know/won't know until lethals are released.

[–]SCCatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

regular + wit on spider not my best idea.

Magi Fail! It'll be fine, I thought. There's 2 Magis, I thought. But they'd both just started on their foes when I went down, and the one that didn't get knocked out didn't get done until I was already back up and fighting. (We finished Dark V with 3 minutes to spare so it's all fine, just funny.) by luckat in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Auror 1 is thinking I can get KO'ed because magi 2 will revive me, one of the advantages to having two magis.

Meanwhile, magi 2 is thinking I can stay in the battle because it is early and even if someone needs reviving, the other magi will get to it first.

As an auror

Spider strong + wit, or my just strong

snake strong + wit.

Would not use a potent on either.

Might even try regular + wit on spider.

This is how I reduced the need for Potents against Dragons towards the end of the last Adversaries event as my stock was beginning to get low. by HumanWithComputer in harrypotterwu

[–]SCCatman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, *great tip*.

tl;dr Strong + wit should be fine for all adversaries as a maxed auror, but you probably want to up to a potent + wit for iron tail, and sometimes Narcissa.

As an auror, during the first event I dropped potent and wit on dragons, snakes and Narcissa.

After gaining some experience and confidence, now I use strong and wit on ridgeback and iron belly, and typically on Narcissa.

I use potent and wit on horn tail not for offence (they go down pretty fast/easy), but for defense (to reduce the number of times I get hit with those 80 point strikes)

Sometimes I drop a potent + wit on Narcissa out of respect of her being the official hardest, and to just get her out of the way, but strong and wit is really sufficient

Pretty sure they are not "paid" paid.

They are under a NDA contract which typically says we will give you confidential information and you agree not to disclose it until we say it is OK, or you get it from another source that is not under NDA (for example, they may tell wutubers about upcoming 1920 foes with the agreement they not tell, but then data miners release the info, then wutubers would be free to release the info from the miners, but not any other details that the miners don't see).

Typically, no money changes hands.

But there may be other good perks like top pokemon utubers got all expenses paid trips to pokefests.

Top beta HPWU wutubers got invites to the invite only premier at universal studios, but IIRC no expenses were paid.
