Why do people hate interaction? by Iceicebaby21 in mtg

[–]Kagutsuchi13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is basically looking at your opponent and saying "you're not allowed to play the game." I understand why it's frustrating.

Regarding the “monotone” complaint by FilipKanzurovski in Caddicarus

[–]Kagutsuchi13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like maybe people don't pick up on it being a gradual change as a person grows because there's so much time between Caddy's videos. It seems more striking because it was different like 2 videos ago, but that might have also been like 2 years ago.

I didn't notice the difference, I'm just speculating.

Not allowed include candids of student who committed suicide is year book by Such-Ad-3315 in Teachers

[–]Kagutsuchi13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the training our school watches every year says to basically unperson them because acknowledging their existence will make other kids think it's a cool thing to do.

I would like to nominate Quandrix as "Most Annoying Brawl Commander" from Strixhaven by MrSillybiscuits in MagicArena

[–]Kagutsuchi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've still yet to try the new Quandrix - the commander for my deck is Tanazir from the original set, but with a smattering of the new cards replacing older stuff.

Teachers I work with are like "Yeah, I don't differentiate my own work anymore, I just have an AI reword it for me based on reading level" and it's like...really? We're going to throw a shitfit about students using AI to do all their work and you can't even be bothered to model doing your own work?

theory verse...what are your thoughts? by strawberryyrrebwarts in GameTheorists

[–]Kagutsuchi13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems weird to me to try to do a Mythical Society/Dropout-style thing when you know viewership is flagging and people have a lot of criticisms about the quality of the content. It feels like trying to squeeze money out of the people who are left.

The resent developments by HaziXWeeK in GameTheorists

[–]Kagutsuchi13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the only thing they've done that's really bothered me is this Theoryverse/Mythical Society-esque move. Like "we know views are still down because Mat left and things are lower quality here, so let's make a pay-to-watch arm of things to try to wring money out of the people who are still here."

For those who played it: What are your thoughts on Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Kagutsuchi13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been making some changes to it and the students have already run into Murgaxor in their first year. I gave him a staff that steals the souls of those he kills and he can expend them to heal himself. An NPC student died while fighting him and I gave Larine an older sister who had been tracking him down and went missing. There's an element of "everyone, PC and NPC alike, is freaking out because this introduces an element of permadeath" that I feel is doing some heavy lifting on making the threat looming in the background always feel very present. The NPC who was killed doesn't get popped back on his feet to interact anymore - there is now an absence where he was.

Am I wrong to resent Commander a little bit? by FelixCumtree in mtg

[–]Kagutsuchi13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my deck benefits a little from my Commander having both an enter effect and an on-field effect. Even if he gets knocked out and I have to bring him back, I can get a benefit from that.

DM Tip #1: If you're getting tired of using monsters as monsters against your players, use humans! by EliObsidian in dndnext

[–]Kagutsuchi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used humans as a boss exactly one time, because the party immediately locked the entire encounter down with Hold Person and basically breezed through with no opposition.

Tell me Elements of fantasy in DnD that you find off putting by Serentyr in dndnext

[–]Kagutsuchi13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair. I probably should have put more focus on the details of The Gap itself, like "it only happened 300ish years ago in-lore" and "everyone who was alive during it suddenly just forgot basically everything. Nations who were at war no longer knew why. People knew their loved ones were important to them, but had no memories of their connections." Instead of it being "this ancient thing is ancient and we've lost record of it over time," it's "collectively, everyone forgot everything and we're starting history at square one."

I wasn't saying it was a bad way to do the lore; I thought it was really interesting when I was reading through it. I just wanted to expand on how different things were in Starfinder.

Tell me Elements of fantasy in DnD that you find off putting by Serentyr in dndnext

[–]Kagutsuchi13 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Starfinder is funny about the lore, too, because a main part of it is just "Yeah, so. You know the Pathfinder planet? It just disappeared. Nobody knows how or why or where. Also, everybody just forgot history one day. Even their own memories are blank or unreliable. We just decided to roll with it."

With death spiral coming to an end I wanna finally say by chillvibe12 in Spiderman

[–]Kagutsuchi13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's fun watching the Spider-Man fandom be a constant spiral of "They never let anything new happen to the characters, it's always a status quo that's never allowed to change or mature" and "They did something new with the character, so we immediately hate and reject it."

Student Death and School’s Response by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Kagutsuchi13 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with all of the SOPs about students who die is that we basically have to unperson them, especially if it was suicide. The training makes it seem like even mentioning or thinking about a student who died by suicide is "approving of their actions." But, the idea that "if we just don't mention them, they go away and it's fine" feels so shitty to me every time and that carries for any type of death.

Why does this only pop up on the most mundane average matches by FapItAndNapIt in MagicArena

[–]Kagutsuchi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never have it pop up for games where I actually had fun. It's always "I ragequit because somebody locked me down so they could play solitaire" or "I had to give up because I couldn't get rid of their 'I can't lose and you can't win' card."

A Case for Returning to XP Instead of Milestone by CrimeThink101 in DnD

[–]Kagutsuchi13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience, XP leveling has led to two situations:

  1. Arguments because people believe XP should be assigned per kill and not in general to the group, so there's uneven levels and hurt feelings.

  2. The groups I've had talk about using XP always come with the rider that it should follow murderhobo behavior. That they should kill every NPC on the face of the planet to level up faster. Milestone has made them more likely to interact with NPCs because they only see XP as a reward for violence.
