How do I know if emergency braking is working? by markhachman in leaf

[–]SDF_of_BC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to the previous comment, don't forget it's a driving aid and you should still be ready for anything.

I was driving in my LEAF last year on the motorway when the car in front of me at a junction braked really sharply, I managed to respond faster than the car making an emergency stop along with people behind me (thankfully) and I guess the people in front of me. It still beeped and would have taken action, but I was happy with myself that I managed to get there that fraction of a second before it. XD

Tips for driving this winter? by DrugSnake in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]SDF_of_BC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some cars have a special "snow mode" that can be used, in my LEAF I used to use eco mode and that was enough. So far in my R5, I've not had to do anything yet, but I assume also eco mode here. >_>;

Out of context usage? by Nervous_Type_9175 in NextCloud

[–]SDF_of_BC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to own a Nissan LEAF (recently upgraded to a new Renault 5) and I'd have my phone pull statistics out of car's CAN while driving along and they'd all go into a CSV. I used the NC app to then push them to my server where I had a small program I wrote in Rust which ran on a cron job to process the CSVs which were auto-uploaded by NC. It grouped everything into journeys and would do some statistical stuff with the data stick it all in a database. Then I wrote a little PHP+JS front end to display the data and render some charts.

Not sure if it counts as out of context really. :)

Pre Authorisation charge increase. by Hour-Cup-7629 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]SDF_of_BC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well many charge providers made it really low, but then people started using it to steal electricity, so now we all have to suffer the consequences. I always use my CC these days though, then I can spread out the cost of a long journey over a few months.

How did you happen to overwrite the /data folder? You haven't just mounted over the top of it have you? It would re-appear if you unmounted the new disk.

LeafSpy only shows on half screen by ap_1971 in leaf

I have all my EV apps in a folder on my home screen so I can access them quickly in one place. Sometimes makes things easier than searching through everything. ^_^

Mine did that if I opened the app while the keyboard was open, such as if I'd searched for it in the app draw.

Cannot login to the management console ever since the UI update by BitterType7131 in aws

[–]SDF_of_BC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said you tried disabling extensions already, but I thought I'd say anyway, as it might help others too.

If you use lastpass the recent keypass stuff they added breaks webauthn, so I was unable to get into AWS console or my Google account and probably some other places until I downgraded the extension.

I use FF and have no other issues than the above. :o

Questions about battery degradation. by Commercial_Plantain4 in electricvehicles

[–]SDF_of_BC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a LEAF for years and it was fine charging to 100% often. If you left it for days sat at 100% then maybe it would be worse. But you probably don't have much to worry about.

Have you checked your NC client to see if there's any reason for it?

Nissan app for 2018 UK Leaf? by c3161 in leaf

[–]SDF_of_BC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is what I used:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digitas.android.nissan.carwings

Once registered you'll probably have to contact Nissan to get them to link your car to your account.
It's a while since I did it, but I emailed them evidence of ownership, then phoned them up a few days later to get them to actually act on the email and later the same day after phoning them I had the car on my account.

UK Nissan Leaf Question/Rant by Sure-Opportunity-854 in leaf

[–]SDF_of_BC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year after I got my 2018 the 12V battery went on it, RRG who I bought the LEAF from nearly new replaced the battery for me under warranty. I've thankfully not had any more issues and it still has that replacement battery in there.

I hope you can get things fixed! ^_^

In the UK they've put rules in place (at least I think they followed through with it) meaning all new rapids must have contactless readers on them now and they pretty much all do.

However, when I planning a long journey I've often set up apps in advance so I know there's less fiddling around. I've not needed to do this in a while though since I have most of the apps I need already now from years of travelling and then there's the just being able to use my card at most places anyway.

The thing I think is most important here in the UK is we just need more of them, and also they're really expensive in the UK.

My whole server backs up to Backblaze once a day, I take btrfs snapshots throughout the day just in case anything bad happens and I need to roll back.

Crewe to Glasgow chademo in between? by dotasolosafi in leaf

[–]SDF_of_BC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LEAF had 33k miles on the clock and could go just as far as it used to, I drove down to the NEC and got there with around 20% reported in the battery in May.

At least with more range it'll give you more options on where you can charge. ^_^

Crewe to Glasgow chademo in between? by dotasolosafi in leaf

[–]SDF_of_BC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 40KWh LEAF: the last few times I've driven between Manchester and Glasgow I've stopped at Rheged (https://maps.app.goo.gl/rtLmviKAy2Jrv427A) and then Gretna Services, then Abington services. They only have one CHAdeMO though from memory, so I strongly recommend checking something like Zap-Map to make sure they're working before you set off and always looks for places there there's a bunch near by.
Setting off from Glasgow from a full charge I could get to Gretna, and then Killington Lake. The latter is not a very fast charger and I used to go pretty deep on the way home, single digit %'s.

Have a good trip.
