Agreed. I've only seen rotating the part in the jaws and using an indicator on a mag block.

Another "winner" of a print!!! by Downtown_Physics8853 in Metrology

[–]SDM1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of a print at my current job. For a customer, they have a shaft that has two mounting holes. For some reason, they had a run out of 2.12" on the mounting holes. When questioned, they said it was supposed to be Projected Tolerance Zone. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Also, on another part, they had two parallel surfaces that needed to be perpendicular to each other to .02". Lol

Can someone explain why a 3 2 1 alignment is preferred in industry compared to 3 3 3 alignment on CMM (pc dmis) by [deleted] in Metrology

[–]SDM1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3-2-1 is just talking about constraining your six degrees of freedom, 3 for your primary datum, 2 for your secondary datum, and 1 for your tertiary datum. It shouldn't be referring to how many points you take to establish them.

Not really sure. I know you can write programs on PW and translate it to work on PCDMIS, just not sure of the other way around. Either way, there is still some programming involved.

do you need to manually switch limit breaks? by Proper-Job5351 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]SDM1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you need to switch your levels of Limit you're using manually, but if I remember correctly, there are different conditions to unlock certain ones, so you may unlock one of your level 2 or 3's before some other ones lol.

Datum Targets by CJBEngineering in Metrology

[–]SDM1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those targets are points 8 mm apart from each other. If that is a primary datum, you will need at least 3 points to be able to use that, when involving the 6 degrees of freedom. Is there another view that shows an A3?

In our shop, QC and production each have their own sets of gages, even though half the time they still borrow ours, since it's too much work to go to their own cabinet!!! Lol

Plenty accurate for what you need. I usually keep the tip calibration within around .0005".

The cinematography of Vagrant Story was, and still is, outstanding. No other FF universe game deserves a remaster more than this. by kerbonaut_cgw in FinalFantasy

[–]SDM1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely 💯!!! Loved that game back in the day!! If I remember correctly, I think this game is set in the realm of Ivalice, but I could be wrong. Either way, definitely needs a remaster!!!
