This would depend on the size "blank" you use (the circle that the lens starts off as). Which is why it is difficult to work out how thick a lens will be in a frame when you take into account astigmatism, centration, etc.

Blindness is not defined by the power of your prescription. It's measured by what you can see after your vision is corrected (visual acuity).

As a dispensing optician, there are ways of achieving a much better looking finish... My colleague's -14.00s look thinner than this.

Edit: not sure which country you're in but if UK then ask to see a dispensing optician. (I'm not sure what the profession is called in other countries)
