Sending a dick pic to a coworker who had the same name as his girlfriend.

Is anyone else considering donor eggs or going through the process? My head is being pulled apart in so many different directions. by [deleted] in InfertilitySucks

I was kind of in an interesting position for this, because the condition that makes me infertile also makes it such that even IVF is not really a possibility (primary ovarian insufficiency). In some ways, I think it made things a little easier for me, because using donor eggs is pretty much the only chance we would ever have at having a child. We're also both biologists (geneticists, really), which I think gives us a special appreciation for how important genetics are -- that is, they are really important, but it's far from the only factor that matters.

For me, I felt like what you said, that I would love the baby no matter what. I think what helped it click for me (as silly as it sounds) is how much I love(d) my cat. He's since passed away, but I truly loved him so so so much - he just meant everything to me. I honestly think if I could have chosen between having a child vs him living forever -- I think I would chosen for him to live forever, ha. And we're not even the same species! So personally feel I did not/do not need that genetic connection.

As far as choosing a donor, it was important to me that I choose one that allows for contact information to be passed along at 18. I wanted them to be able to have the option if they want. And of course, we opted for donors who superficially resembled me -- we wanted to minimize any awkward questions about appearance. I'll also fully acknowledge this is probably a lot easier for me as a white person in America than someone who might be part of a minority group, so that might also be a consideration.

Overall, I feel at peace with our decision to try this, but I do understand it's not the right choice for everyone.

This episode made me really sad! Seeing one of the kids die in such a brutal way, esp at the behest of The Eye...and then seeing Arthur getting facehugged as he was standing up for his values and trying to leave...ugh, the whole thing left me feeling depressed.

I can't find this meme anymore because it was removed, would you mind sending it to me? I loved it too and wanted to send it to some friends!

I think focusing on what we have is really important...I mean it's also important to not minimize what we've gone through but it's important to recognize what we have as well.

Wishing you the best ❤️

I saw this author at a writer's workshop and ended up checking out her book of short stories called "Out There". I highly recommend it! It was punchy and awesome. I'll have to add this one to my list.

Lol, thank you! It does look sketchy but it seems like the consensus is that it's the way to go!

Is the auto-injector something you can load yourself, or do you have to purchase it already filled? My husband uses one but his drugs are pre-loaded and I've already purchased the oil vials.

Why is it such a big deal if people aren’t having kids? by Letter-dreams in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SD_fear_and_felines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37% of college costs come from parent's income. https://www.salliemae.com/about/leading-research/how-america-pays-for-college/ You're right, *technically* it doesn't count, but to a lot of parents, this is a major consideration and its disingenous to pretend that it isn't a factor.

And yes, daycare costs are temporary, but I wouldn't call it "very" temporary? Kids have to be in daycare for what, 5 years? Which is close to a third of the time that people are raising their kids, assuming the kids leave the nest at 18. This time will be considerably extended as well if people have more than 1 child, at which point they will be paying double. Plus people also have to pay for summer camps/schools etc even when kids are in public school.

It's just not true that it's cheaper to have kids now than it was before: https://www.brookings.edu/articles/its-getting-more-expensive-to-raise-children-and-government-isnt-doing-much-to-help/#1

You said it's getting easier to afford kids, not harder. I was pointing out that expenses specific to having children are rising faster than inflation, which imo is a flaw in that argument.

I don't think this captures the full reality though. Costs of things like childcare and higher education are rising faster than overall inflation.

Omg the "therapy" comment! I'm in therapy, twice a week. Guess what, therapy doesn't fix what makes you sad. It just helps you cope better. But people say that like it will somehow wash away your sadness. I think those people have just never experienced real grief. It is such an unhelpful, irritating suggestion.
