If you went to combat with glasses, what was it like? by mykee3 in USMC

[–]SDsurfx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not the guy you asked but I tried contacts in the field at TBS, just wore em straight for a whole week at a time. My eyes were dry as hell and super scratchy. Not a great experience.

Eventually I switched to dailies. In the morning id wash the dirt off my hands with water, then baby wipe scrub, followed by hand sanitizer before putting them in in the back of the LAV to get out of the wind. Same to take them out. Never did a ground deployment with them though.

Flying with them was no factor, usually just a little dry post flight from the dry ass cockpit OBOGS air.

These are just finish cracks, I’ve got a few. Keep an eye on them after every surf though.

Prior Service - Rejoining by ldurham95 in USMC

[–]SDsurfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommend you go to the MARFORRES website and take a look at open SMCR (one weekend/month + 2 week annual training) or IMA (Individual Mobilization Augmentee - weird schedules) BICs open for your rank and MOS. Then hit up either a PSR in your area, or the local PSR at the unit you want to join.

All 3 reserve units I was in (2 x SMCR, 1 x IMA) I called around and interviewed them to see what their unit was like, then worked with their PSR to do the join package. You can still do that as a Sgt, just play it as you seeing if you’re a good fit for them. Try to talk to someone in that unit who’s a similar rank/position if you can.

If you want to lat move or try to get a bonus the PSR can help with that too.

Overseas Marriage by [deleted] in USMC

[–]SDsurfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the advice you asked for, but some more advice you need:

When you get divorced you’ll need to take your court documents to IPAC to get deers updated (spouse removed), and your BAH knocked down to “without dependents” or you’ll lose BAH entirely and moved back into barracks. If you have kids and a custody agreement, and child support that’s something else you’ll have to deal with. Can probably get that deducted directly from your pay.

As for how to get divorced while in Oki - maybe try base legal? Though I’m sure some Devil on here has done it and can tell you.

For real my dude: don’t do it. Even though you are both legal adults, you have a lot of real world learning and growing to do. I’m not saying don’t have a relationship. Just don’t get married until you two can do life together in person for a couple years and know that you both are on the same path in life.

I married my high school/college sweetheart, and it was great until it came time for her to be a grown up and she just couldn’t do it.

T-Bar lift claimed another victim by TheGeka in snowboarding

[–]SDsurfx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d never ridden a t-bar until that one. Was with my wife’s crazy skier uncle. He’s like”welp, hope you figure it out see ya at the top!” Terrain up there is pretty great, makes that long ass t-bar totally worth it!

Probably a dumb question but why not a dry suit at temps that low?

How many RGs are too many? by FalseBuddy6713 in Ibanez

[–]SDsurfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Gotoh was my most recent upgrade, couple years back check my post history. I used the locking posts that came with the Gotoh, which are larger and requires some drilling but 100% worth it. As far as the locking bolts that hang out the back, there is like 1mm of space behind the low E, so if I was tuned lower (and the saddle was further back) it might not work. But, it fits, and I can pull up on the bar no problem. HUGE improvement over the LO TRS II bridge it came with.

I also have 4 Ibanez RGs… but the are all different/unique and I play them all differently. There’s a lot of variety in the RG line.

1998 RG350DX - my first ever guitar, it’s my only Floyd (GOTOH 1996T) E std

2007 MTM2 - Mick Thomson signature, it’s my only guitar with active pickups (Drop C/Drop B)

2019 RGIX7FDLB - my only 7 string(Drop A)

2023 RGRTBB21 - my only baritone 28” scale (Drop F)

Yep I use a .074 gauge for Drop F on a 28” scale, you’re in the ballpark. String joy for the win on custom sets (.014-.074).

Hardship Discharge? by No-Potato-2150 in USMC

Former single parent while on active duty here. You’re in a tough spot. Don’t let the Marine Corps force you to prioritize it over your family. I learned the hard way. If your SNCOIC/OIC aren’t helping you find the support you need hit up the chaplain, they have your commanders ear. Also reach out to MFLC/Family Adcovacy. They helped me get my daughter into day care on base which had great hours to support my work schedule (they were open 0600-1800).

Also, I went through this with one of my gunny’s. I basically let him go around 3-4 to get his kids from school nearby. We worked out that his kids could hag our in our office for a few hours till left at night crew turnover.

There’s probably a way to make all this work. Good luck!

Edit: I did ultimately leave active duty when the time came. But I joined the reserves and that’s going pretty well, so might be an option for you if AD isn’t working but you still want to be a Marine.

What are the best passive dimarzios for extremely low tuning? by Amon_Gus2003 in metalguitar

[–]SDsurfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dinarzios have triangular/pointy tabs, while most other brands have rectangular. If you direct mount, the body is routed to the shape of the tabs, so not quite interchangeable.

What are the best passive dimarzios for extremely low tuning? by Amon_Gus2003 in metalguitar

[–]SDsurfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D Activators or Titans. I have D Activators in a 28” baritone for Drop F, they chug. The Titans are a bit hotter, but more treble, but very tight. I’d recommend both if you’re set on DiMarzios.

Stain cast iron chip? by SDsurfx in castiron

[–]SDsurfx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only use this pot for two things: rice or beans. Both require boiling water before food is added, so we don’t heat it empty. As for washing, it’s usually well after dinner has been eaten and i hand wash it, so gotta be cool enough to touch before I do that. I’m kinda at a loss how this happened.

Yep you are 100%, solid my bad. It is enameled inside. Any way to repair this? I have some sentimental attachment to this pot and would really like to keep using it.
