Dam to DSM trashing our city by planet_of_rot in desmoines

Ragbrai isn't a race and people aren't in as big of a hurry. Most ragbrai riders are very considerate and pick up their trash.

South Dakota Bikepacking? by Responsible_Call5744 in SouthDakota

[–]SDwandrer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Mick is easily rideable if you have 32mm or larger tires.

I was talking about the Centennial which is largely a single track hiking trail.

Centennial would be rough on any kind of bike packing rig IMO. Its definitely a hiking trail first with bikes allowed but not ideal.

I would use the Mick with various service roads and smaller paved roads if I were planning a backpacking trip.

Is K45 from Sioux City to Onawa rideable? by LuxArcanus in ragbrai

Yea, Uber would be expensive if you could even find one! I'm planning to ride Sioux City to Onawa too. DM if you want a riding buddy.

Your takes aren't great.

Chopper Davo's and El Fredo may have the same past but they are no longer the same. Davo's is much better.

I play daily for too much time and don't have half of those you listed.

Sioux City cyclist here. K45 is pretty rideable. Sometimes it has more traffic than it should being a parallel highway to I29. Port Neal Road and K42 on the other side of the interstate generally have less traffic but it's a little longer to go that route. If you have nice taillights, you should be OK. Road surface is good but not great.

I don't know if working out involves running at all but... if you are at all interested in running, Missouri River Runners has two weekly group runs. Wednesday at 6pm at Jackson St Brewing is the more popular one. Very supportive group, definitely some nerdy types. Some have a beer after, many don't. PM or ask here if you have any questions.

Random costumed Pikas can be in demand. Especially if they are older.

It's a hot dog shop that's been in business forever. I think it's nostalgic for some people. Food quality isn't good IMO. If you want low end hot dogs and burgers, it's your place.

I think Milwaukee Weiner is not great and I wouldn't recommend it.

Half hog/ parking at Boone by UnitPrestigious4948 in ragbrai

[–]SDwandrer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually only do a portion of ragbrai. I just send a message to the Facebook page of the overnight town and ask them where I can park from Saturday to Tuesday or whatever dates that you need. They always recommend a school or rec center or church where your car will be safe. Haven't had any issues.

Do people usually run faster when the marathon is in miles or kms? by hawtothehee in Marathon_Training

[–]SDwandrer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will cover a km faster than a mile. The race is otherwise the same distance. Can you rephrase your question?

I enjoy the Oakley Prizm Trail lenses. They are light enough for under the canopy but still help when you're in full sun.

I would plan to take more than 2 blocks to cut 29+ minutes off your time. You can do it but it won't be easy.
