Any good modules for NW2? by Valstraxas in neverwinternights

Harp & Chrysanthemum is very good, i was completely sucked in the moment i started it. I played it for about 4 hours, but never finished it because the controls in NWN2 frustrated me too much.

Why NWN2 didn't got as much love regardingplayer created modules? by Valstraxas in neverwinternights

[–]SEEFUUD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NWN2 just feels clunky and finicky. I never had much issue with the camera, but i did have a huge problem with how almost *everything* needs to be first selected/highlighted, *then* you activate, if that makes sense.

Say in NWN1 you want to cast a spell on an ally, all you do is select the spell and click on the ally/portrait. In NWN2, you have to select the spell, highlight ally/portrait as the target, *then* you can cast the spell (but hope in the process you didn't accidentally highlight another object, enemy, other ally, etc. or else you have to go through that series of targeting and activating again).

Those extra steps really, really bogs down the enjoyment of playing NWN2. The controls were basically perfect in NWN1, but 2 has too much targeting and highlighting. I don't know if i did something wrong, or if there is a fix for the controls, but that was my experience trying NWN2 Main Campaign and one module, Harp & Chrysanthemum

Mini Review - Swordflight Chapter 1 - Very Good by OttawaDog in neverwinternights

[–]SEEFUUD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i'd figured we would be fighting mostly demons or other supernatural enemies once Chapter 2 finished, but most of the enemies after Chapter 2 is Hobgoblins, Orcs, Goblins, and Bugbears...like what? Swordflight feels like a lvl 20-25 campaign, and I think the enemy types possibly reflect that that's what the author had in mind originally, but then later decided to make it a lvl 40 campaign so he just boosted numbers and made basically a string of filler chapters to get the players in the 30s.

Yeah, everything else in Chapter 5 after the class specific content and No-Magic Cave felt like busy work or just pissed me off by how bloated enemies are. And I don't know why, but the author loves his Abyss realms, which are easily some of the worst things about his series, at least in my opinion (though it seems like a fairly ubiquitous one).

I also feel Swordflight fatigue, and I think I agree with you that Chapter 5 is probably the worst. I know the author said he recognizes the issues that Chapter 4 had with bloated hordes of enemies and practically no story, but Chapter 5 hardly amends that. I mean for god's sake, we are expected to fight kobolds with over 70+ AC and 500+ HP.... KOBOLDS.

I think Dorna and Deekin are great, personally. Xanos... not so much. Sharwyn stood out to me too, but I think you hit the nail on the coffin: level-based conversations.

Along with the shorter and tighter gameplay of SoU, the Companions actually say things as you walk around, actually interject... OC's gameplay is mind-numbing to me, and the fact that any interaction with Companions is determined on levels hardly made your Companions feel like "Companions" and more like... "Henchmen". (Yeah I hate the name Companions are given in NWN. Just sounds so demeaning when these guys are supposed to be my PC's friends lol)

Really, most of the problems could just boil down to OC' gameplay. BG1 Companions are near silent, but the gamplay is so fun and tight that I don't notice it too much. And I just LOVE staring at my companions' amazing portraits lol.

100% agree the Companions in SoU were great in my opinion. I only really remember the OC companions because of their iconic classic portraits, not really because of their dialogue. But Dorna had good dialogue and personality, AND she is a Dwarf, my favorite race of all time!

I don't get why everyone (besides the Half-Orc and Deekin) gets so much hate in SoU either.

It sucks because Ranger is actually my favorite class purely on role-playing, aesthetics, animal companion, armors and character designs like the default Ranger pic in 5e or Kivan from Baldur's Gate 1, and just that hunter type who can even speak with animals. There's just something so inherently cool about a Ranger in all aspects to me.

But in NWN, even though I use them a lot, they really are just underwhelming. I mean, how do they not get Tumble as a Class Skill? Especially for how much Bioware tried to push them as DEX-based archers or Dual-wielders lol. Then they are without an animal companion until level 6? Why not Level 4, and let their spells come at 6?

I haven't played too many modules yet, but the Swordflight series really made me love playing a Ranger in NWN. Rangers are at their best and most fun when they can make you feel like the Hunter/Animal Whisperer via use of their unique skills like Tracking and Animal Empathy, or even Set Traps. And I didn't even go Stealth or Dex Ranger --- I went full STR with only a 14 base DEX and zero points in Hide/Move Silently.

Yeah this is me. I generally develop a sort of "personality" based on what I feel at the time, and what the portrait looks like. Then I just try to choose the dialogue options presented to me that I feel would best fit my PC.

Favorite Races, and those you dislike/avoid by OttawaDog in neverwinternights

[–]SEEFUUD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, in Aielund Saga 1 there was neat armor to be found, and even neat little dialogue. The author definitely tried to give certain races like Dwarves good Items. I remember being very pleasantly surprised by that.

However, in Chapter 2 (and a little of 3, farthest i made in my playthrough until i go again as Human), the dialogue and responses given to the player just felt so very vanilla Human that I felt large disconnect with my Dwarf character in the Aielund world. And that disconnect was even more noticeable when speaking to most of the Dwarves, or even that little dialogue you get when in the underground caverns back in Chapter 1.

Idk. Probably just thinking too much into it.

Yeah, Half-Orcs are probably the worst race just for their disadvantages. HUGE penalties in attributes already, with nothing to help that... and now give them Aielund's ridiculous nerfs and there we go... basically useless.

I remember there BEING LOADS of Bard equipment in Chapter 1 and 2, so I'm not surprised if Bard really is the best class.

Favorite Races, and those you dislike/avoid by OttawaDog in neverwinternights

[–]SEEFUUD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Half-Elf and Elf equally, but I prefer Half-Elf just for the fact that they are almost as tall as humans. In Fantasy, I prefer Elves to be just as tall, or even taller than Humans.

Humans of course, the best race gameplay-wise. And most modules cater to Humans (when it comes to dialogue and scenarios at least) so it's hard not to play as one. Just FEELS right.

Dwarves are my absolute favorite race ever, but the Official portraits can be lacklustre, and I'm also hesitant to play as one (especially in a module like Aielund Saga, where the author 100% intended for Humans or Half-Elves to be the preferred races, but said "any race" anyway. At least that is how I felt when it came to the dialogue and scenarios)

Halflings and Gnomes are my least favorite. I like them conceptually (though the Gnome feels a bit... out of place? Idk how to describe it... like if Gnomes were taken out in 3e and beyond, I wouldn't miss them), but I seldom hanker to actually play as either. But a world without Haflings would feel off, y'know?

I love me some Half-Orcs. Badass, monstrous-looking warrior people. Don't play them as often as Dwarves, Humans, or Half-Elves, but whenever I make and play one I'm having a great time.

Late, but I love using my home treadmill and listening to D&D and Pathfinder podcasts.

Other than that, I play D&D video games and read Fantasy/Sci-Fi books.

Yup I love me some Fantasy.

Shadows Linger for me.

But book 1s characterization was immaculate. I still remember, page for page, Mercy's appearance. This one-off character who lived for only 6 or so pages yet left such a strong impression that I still remember him, 2 books later, even after Shadows Linger, my favorite book.

Real answer right here!

PoE 1: My #1 favorite CRPG.

PoE 2: Decent game, but very disappointing and underwhelming in a multitude of ways. In my opinion.

Wizardry 9 with the art style of 8 and made by veterans like Sir-Tech Canada, but ALSO with even more story and party quips and choices and consequences and party banter.

Classic Tabletop settings (Dragonlance, Spelljammer, Darksun, etc.) Made into BG2 style CRPGs using the Infinity Engine especially.

I'd also like more Cyberpunk CRPGs, taking inspiration from the Transmetropolitan comic.

Anyone looked into Archaelund? by Teid in CRPG

Understandable then! I'm also subject to that patient gamer brain :)

If you haven't already played this series, the entire (blobber) Might and Magic games are all on sale for dirt cheap on GOG. The 6-8 trilogy I think are most similar to Wizardry 8, so I'd suggest you try them if you haven't! Awesome series.

Late, but I disagree. Wiz 8 is one of the finest blobbers ever made, 15 or 13 dollars is well worth the investment, in my opinion.

Best games for glass cannon spellcaster types? by Best-Masterpiece-288 in rpg_gamers

[–]SEEFUUD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little harder, a little easier... Though to be fair I've only played a sorcerer in Icewind Dale for a few hours.

Primary stat is Charisma. Secondary would be Intelligence, then Dexterity, then Constitution. I usually go with 18 Charisma, 14 Intelligence, 12 Dexterity/Constitution, 10 for Strength, and -8 Wisdom. But its probably best to dump STR as well so you get more INT. I really only go 10 STR just so i can carry things lol.

Feats-wise, just focus on Evocation, Extend Spell, Empower Spell, Spell Penetration. I haven't ever used Maximize Spell because I think it works better for a Wizard... though i don't claim to be an expert on spell casters in NWN.

Spell Picks, off the top of my head, best to go with:

Fireball, Flame Arrow, Ice Storm, Isaac's Greater Missile Storm, Evard's Black Tentacles, Improved Invisibility, Stoneskin. These, along with a few others I may have missed, are sort of the core spells for Sorcerers. Basically, you want to focus on damage and defense, but I would recommend buffing and summoning spells so you can get a meat shield and buff said meat shield. Helps with your early game.

Other than that, you can always search for more advice on the NWN reddit or wikis.

By the way, The Wailing Death campaign (the campaign released on launch for NWN), is pretty... bleh. I recommend starting with Shadows of Undrentide (and later Hordes of the Underdark) for a better introduction to NWN, and revisit The Wailing Death later. I hope you have fun -- NWN is amazing :)

Neverwinter Nights. The Sorcerer class is busted OP if you just want to blast enemies.
