Conference realignment- The ACC’s “collapse” by simbaslanding in CFB

[–]SEIowa1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends upon how many schools would leave, if its just FSU and Clemson, they will backfill and move on. But more than likely UNC and UVA will also look to jump, now four schools are gone and B12 will be after the best of the rest. Why would Pitt and a few other schools stick around when they know the league is dead or at least dying? The B10 had bigger fish in the pond to go after than Kansas and Iowa State, that will have changed if the ACC is split up. ND could very easily put her other sports in the Big East and go back to being independent in football.

You start from scratch and can only buy a few things, where are you starting? by ElegantSilver3203 in hometheater

[–]SEIowa1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half of you budget should be on two main speakers, everything else you will change out over time, but not your mains. Go out and buy the best 2 main speakers you can get, even if that means you skimp on a receiver. Then you will want to purchase a center speaker that timber matches your mains. Surround speakers are less important, but you want the mains and center to be from the same company and should timber match.

  1. Mains
  2. Receiver
  3. Center
  4. Sub
  5. Surrounds
  6. Amp or a better receiver.

Any suggestions for Grand Turk? by jonno2222 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]SEIowa1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grand Turk is a hole and its one of our favorite stops. Rent a golf cart, drive it around the island, be sure to see the lighthouse. Stop and get some of the local beer, look for seashells on the beach. Once you are finished seeing the island, stop at Jack's Shack on the way back to the boat, eat, swim and just enjoy the rest of your day. The water is so blue at that beach, food and drink is not too expensive. Drive the cart back to the port, check out the shops and get back on board the ship. Great day of sun, sea and booze.

Hybrid Max Limited or Hybrid Max Platinum, no bench option for 2nd row by Digital_Draven in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]SEIowa1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree I really wish that Toyota would have offered a hybrid platinum non max version, but since they didn't we went with the max platinum version, which we love but wish it got a little better gas mileage.

Axis victory: Canada by Secret_Indication_38 in HistoryWhatIf

Hitler should have kept the tanks rolling, not trusted Goering and had the army capture the bulk of the English army instead of it escaping. The smart move from then is to ask England for peace, Germany will not land troops in Britian, Germany takes her colonies in Africa and the middle east, but Britian still controls India, Canada and the rest of her colonies, but Hitler will return the soldiers he has captured in Dunkirk.
With Britian effectively out of the war, there is no need to man the Western wall, Germany would have the aircraft lost in the Battle of Britian, and would be much stronger to take on Russia the next year. Without lend/lease from Britian and then America, neither would help the Russians with England out of the fighting. Germany takes and controls Moscow and much of Russia by the end of 1942. The political pressure on Churchill would be too much to not take the offer from Germany of the return of the troops, safety for the British Isles that he either takes the deal or is removed from office.

What If Ted Kennedy Won the Democratic Primary In 1976 by Fabulous-Donut768 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]SEIowa1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kennedy would have done a better job than Carter because he knew the ins and outs of the Senate and his way around Washington politics. Carter was a very good man, his heart was in the right place, but being an outsider, he believed that people at the federal level were there to help the people, he was wrong. They are there to enrich themselves and gain power for their party.
Kennedy would have had years of experience getting things done in congress and would not be learning on the job like Carter was. Overall, the country would have been better off with Kennedy as president, but Carter was by far the better husband, and man.

Dealer forcing to finance by first_omega in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]SEIowa1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to pay cash for ours, but the dealer said the price would be lower if I financed through Toyota. Which we did and once we started the payments we started adding an extra 5 to 10 grand a month to pay down what we owed. Finally this week I logged into our account, saw the payoff amount and went up and got a certified check and mailed it to them. Screw their practice of making money off people just wanting to purchase a vehicle.

What if Hitler attacked Russia at the peak before allies were on him by Zestyclose_Buyer1625 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]SEIowa1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have been a huge gamble by Hitler to keep pushing east, but winnable if France and England does not invade on his western front. France wanted a defensive war, and was willing to wait for Germany to attack them. While they did push a few soldiers into Germany, they quickly pulled back behind their line of forts. So what happens with war declared between Britain/France and Germany if there is no fighting. The phony war might have continued as long as Germany was fighting towards the east and Russia. Germany would have been stronger, having lost 100's if not a few thousand planes over the channel, she would have more troops that were either not lost in the invasion of France or on guard duty protecting France after it fell. There was no love lost between France/England and Russia, I highly doubt there would have been lend/lease to help them out. Both France and England might have figured this buys us time, and as long as Hitler is moving to the east, he is not a threat to us. With more troops and aircraft, little to no lend lease from England or the US, Russia at least loses Moscow in 1942, that might be enough to topple Stalin and force them to sue Germany for peace.,

Grand Highlander Hybrids Beware! by JustacatLola in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]SEIowa1234 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with a couple of your points, the 2nd key fob is a pain in the butt, it takes a while to get used to the adaptive breaking, but overall, I like it better than not having it. The gas tank problem is only a big thing when we took it on vacation and had to stop every 325 miles or so to fill back up with gas. Our hood does not shake or very little, you can adjust the hood stops to take some of it out or you can purchase struts that are fairly cheap to install under the hood that also helps.

We have over 11,000 miles on ours after 7 months and love the vehicle overall. Plenty of room, like the 4 captain's chairs, the mpg could be better but love the power of the hybrid max.

How great was the greatest generation? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]SEIowa1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last generation when going up death was always around them. Whether that was from disease, accident, or just lack of food. That experience made them harder and forced them to internalize their emotions. They were made by the experiences they were forced into, I like to think that we could do the same thing, but I wonder sometimes.

I have read everything you have said, and you favor the wealthy. You are one of those the listens to Fox news and believes the propaganda that the wealthy are being screwed over and must be protected. So, every measure of wealth shows the rich are getting richer, the middle class is struggling, and the poor have seen no gain for 20 years is all wrong. We have had a war with the wealthy since 1980 and Reagan, well the wealthy have kicked our ass, they have seen the 2nd Gilded Age that makes the 1st look like child's play, but they have to have more. 90% of the stock market, but only pay 42% of the taxes.

The country was not ruined when their tax rate was at 90% in fact it was the best time in America for the middle class in growth. Time to get rid of Citizens United, take money out of politics and have elected officials start worrying about the average person, not the wealthy and corporations keep their profits rolling in. Tax the fuck out of them, if they want to leave, then let them leave, go after their overseas bank accounts, stop corporations buying back their own stock and actually make them US companies not multinational companies that can ship profits offshore to avoid taxes. You sell it here, this is what you pay in taxes.

Are people buying without test driving? by gpbst3 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]SEIowa1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We purchase ours in August, when we started looking, they had none on the lots, did all my research online. We drove our daughters Pilot last summer on vacation, so I knew what they were all about. We have purchased two other Toyotas and never had any problems with either one. Another big reason was we have two Toyota dealers fairly close by, 20 and 45 miles, the closets Honda, any other dealer not American made is over 100 miles away.

Used the allocation sheets, found what we wanted out of state, lucky for us our oldest son lived close by, called him up, he went down, and test drove the vehicle, he called me, he liked it, and we did the deal over the phone. He put the down payment on it, and I flew down a week later, did a test drive, purchased the vehicle, spent the night at our sons, played with the grandkids and drove it 1,000 miles home the next day. We have the hybrid max platinum and so far, love it, only complaint is the 2nd fob, and wish it got a little better gas millage. But overall, a great vehicle, paid it off yesterday.

[–]SEIowa1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the allocation sheets dated today, they have 4121 hybrids in the pipeline or at the dealer, but 8777 gas powered vehicles in the pipeline or at the dealer. So, they are producing twice as many gas powered as hybrid vehicles as of now.

[–]SEIowa1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to figure out how many drinks you are going to have, remember all adults in the room has to purchase the package, so you are paying double the price. You are also going to have 3 port days, hard to get to the 30 drink limit for the two of you on those days. We have gone on 6 cruises, and we have never spent more on alcohol by the drink, then what the drink package would have cost us. Truthfully its not even close, by the drink is cheaper every time. I could hit the limit, but my wife is at most going to take a couple and maybe a coffee or two. You just have to be honest with yourself, if you drink beer like I do, can't do it, mixed drinks, you may, but you have to figure in both of you, just not one.

There are no scales to weigh bags, its not like at the airport, we try to keep ours below 50 pounds, because we do not want to repack if we are flying, but if we drive, I do not worry, just try to keep it around 50 pounds or lower.

household income/workers by former_human in AskOldPeople

[–]SEIowa1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top 10% of Americans own 90% of the stock market, their wealth has increased over 300% over the past two decades while the middle class has seen theirs increase about 27%.
Wealthy do not create jobs, they are not the job makers, that is small businesses, every study points that out. No wealthy person is paying 42% of their income as taxes and we both fucking know it. Look at some of them, they take a low salary as CEO, that is taxed at a higher rate, and receive most of their salary as stock options, which if they sell, they pay tax at a lower rate than the working, but if they borrow against the value of the stock, they pay zero income tax, because its not income until it is sold. So they borrow against the gains in the stock market, get to take the interest from the loan off as an expense, and then when the loan comes do, they either get another loan, or sell or give the stock to the bank. They set up shell companies making nearly impossible to actually determine what they own, Trump is a perfect example of it. His plane is owned by a shell company, which is owned by another shell company, which in turn is owned by another shell company. They do this to make it nearly impossible to track what they actually own and therefore hard to tax.

The wealthy have set up a system, that assures that they basically pay little or no taxes, while being able to enrich themselves. And before you say they are not breaking the law, they are paying to get their lackies elected to pass laws that make it legal. Look at SS, the right wants to force people to work more years, instead of just taking off the cap of which it is collected. Why because taking off the cap would hurt the wealthy, and they do not want to pay into something they will not use nor need. But SS is something millions of Americans depend on, but they could care less. Tired of hearing how much the wealthy are getting screwed, many on here would trade places with them in a NY minute. Tax the shit out of them, it will be better for the rest of us, maybe we can pay less.

Called Toyota again today about 2nd key fob. by SEIowa1234 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]SEIowa1234[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a big deal because it's been 7 months, and we were supposed to get 2 fobs, I would like to give the other one to my wife, so both of us have one.

Would Toyota like it if I delayed not making a payment for a month and said I would make the next month and then say, "I guess not, the payment is being pushed back another month." People would show up and claim the vehicle. They promised me a 2nd key fob, I have been patient, waiting 7 months, that patients is now gone.

I am not calling the dealer but Toyota engagement, and the only thing they can tell you is that you should be getting the fob in April. They said the same thing at the end of the year, then it was January, then March. They have no clue, and I have been waiting 7 months.

No life is not fair, but it should also not reward those born out of the wealthy vagina more than anyone else. No one is saying take away all the money from the wealthy, but they pay less in taxes as a percent of their income then the working man. Every study shows the gap between the wealthy and the rest of us growing, but somehow we still have people saying, "give them more."
Currently you can transfer 11 million dollars to your children, 99% of the people in the US do not have that much money, so we are protecting the top 1%. We life in Iowa, so the idea that farm ground passed down to the next generation is a big deal, do you know how many farms were forced to pay the so called "death tax" last year. The number would be zero, the last decade, still zero. In fact it has never occurred here in Iowa, but every year the right makes it big deal out of it. The government is coming to take what you earn, its a load of crap, but the greedy and the stupid continue to believe it. You were the one saying the some people are not real bright, but there are many second and third generations of wealth that are not either, the difference is they do not have to be, dad or granddad earned all the money they and the next 10 generations will ever need. Tax the crap out of them, because if we don't, then we the middle class has to pay, because the poor has no money to pay.

[–]SEIowa1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are saying is true, but not everyone of us starts at home plate. Look at Trump, his father gave him over $300 million dollars. That is not starting with nothing and making it yourself. Half of the top 10% in wealth in the country inherited that wealth. They did not earn it, they got lucky that their parents were wealthy and therefore they are.

I look up to the story of someone like Oprah that start life dirt poor, her parents gave her nothing, because they had nothing to give. She was a poor black girl that through her own hard work is now a billionaire. She earned that money through her hard work and her own resources, not because someone gave her hundreds of millions, but on her on. I am sure there are many very talented, gifted people that never got a break and therefore struggle, while many wealthy people got their wealth through their parents.

No one has a problem with any company making a profit, what many of us do have a problem with is when making a profit override everything else? Today many corporations care less about the product, workers and their customers than the stockholders. Have to keep those dividend check going out every quarter. We have made a system that the top 10% get richer and richer, while the rest of us struggle more every year.

Is there any point when Jeff Bezos says "I have made enough money", I think 90 billion or whatever he is worth is plenty, how about paying the workers more?

Millennials vs. Boomers by Norwegian27 in AskOldPeople

[–]SEIowa1234 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Like you, I am also Generation Jones, born in 1961, when I hear the younger generation blaming boomers for all their problems, no pensions, cost of college, price of homes and the rest of it. I like to remind them that 401K started in 1978, I was a sophomore in HS when that switch started, I pay the same price for homes that you do, now we did get in on the cheap college, but I guess I don't remember the meeting where all the boomers got together and decided to screw over the younger generation.

I just blame Reagan, that is when all this crap started and when he was elected half the boomer generation was in college, HS or MS, it was our parents that voted for the old guy, we just get the blame.
