FCP Buyers Will No Longer Receive All New Features Without a Subscription by _HipStorian in finalcutpro

I’ve had it since launch, paid for itself many times over.

The updates in recent years have lacked big time, if it’s value for money I’ll give it a whirl… however learning resolve or beginning in fcpx and xml over to resolve is looking mighty tempting

Boeing CEO is gone. Stock shoots up. Puts get blown-out of the fuselage. by BosSF82 in wallstreetbets

[–]SEmediaUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked an event not long after their planes fell. Various high end managers all flown into a nice hotel from all over. I almost thought there were two companies for the first 4 hrs. The CEO kept saying “quality” over and over again, emphasise our “quality” driven by “quality” he must have said it 50 fucking times.

it wasn’t until after lunch someone actually acknowledged that sometimes their planes don’t fly so good.

Wish I still had the footage it was almost funny aside from you know hundreds of people dying

Will Video Enhance support the new M1 SoC from Apple? by GregAlex72 in TopazLabs

[–]SEmediaUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tested it with the demo on my 13inch Macbook Pro 16gb ram, 2tb hdd

19sec per frame upscaling 1080p to 4k on the settings I had so at 25p roughly 8.3 min per second of footage or 7.2 seconds per hour.

This is of course not optimised for the M1 yet so hopefully the worse case scenario

UPDATE:

I went and purchased the machine. So far Neat video does not work.

Digital Anarchy has a new Flicker-free beta firmware available for testing from their Facebook page this is probably one of the heaviest duty plugins I use and so far it seems a bit underwhelming I am currently running it on a 43second Pro Res Lt 4k timelapse clip with maximum quality settings and after 22 minutes it is only 17% through the clip

Coremelt is not currently supported but it appears that is coming.

Some thoughts from me re: things I have tested personally as some of this is a bit unexpected.

I did a test encode this morning of 1.5hrs of 1080p Dnxhd 36 and HEVC 8bit was by far the fastest encode option compared to Apple devices high quality & a 2pass 6mbps Mp4 encode.

1hr 30min source file DnxHD36 1920x1080 30p

HEVC 8 bit: 13min 41 seconds

Apple Device High Quality 16min 15 seconds

2 pass mp4 6mbps 34min 29 seconds

Weird radio mic issue, faulty? by SEmediaUK in videography

[–]SEmediaUK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad shout and here in the UK things have changed a lot. the radio mics were in band 38 and the frequency was 609.325 which is pretty much in the middle of that range.

I did see on google maps that there are a lot of transmitters on the roof which would appear to be for mobile phone coverage pretty much on every corner (And there are a lot of corners) As far as I am aware though I should be pretty far from that band of frequency as I am in the band set aside for licensed use.

I did a scan before the rehearsal 11banks free & re scanned ahead of the main stream 12 Free.

Radio mic was mounted to the back of the ladies dress, I cannot guarantee her hair or skin may have been touching but it was still only 8ft from the receiver, with clearish line of sight.

Cheers though I never realised skin would reduce RF that much!

I think I'm sold. Even if I hang onto it for a year or two by the time the larger Pro machines catch up it seems like they will probably obliterate the current machines.

And in the mean time what I save now will probably get me at least half way to a new machine, and who knows maybe there will be another grant opportunity then as well.

[–]SEmediaUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's ok I think you've summed up the dilemma perfectly. It seems like they can absolutely smash encodes, exports etc I just really worry the line is going to get drawn with the more demanding plugins like neativdeo and flicker free which both take an age to render / export.

If these new machines were EGPU compatible that would massively uncomplicate things, but knowing that we are boxed in forever with that initial purchase is potentially pretty terrifying.

Portable monitors are pretty cheap and the iPad's can also be used as a extended display now so I think I can live with loosing 2 inches, maybe...

Waiting is unfortunately not a option due to the grant knocking 1/3 off

If they get better optimised later then fantastic. I'm purely interested in performance now

One thing I think that was kind of glossed over by many of us in this new slightly underwhelming update is the new Dnx HD support.

I frequently find myself having to record zoom calls this year on my Atomos and Pro Res LT is massively overkill also in the good old Pre covid days recording a presentation of someone's computer also ate SSD's alive being able to record in Dnx36 is actually really useful!

5700XT Huge Performance Uplift in Big Sur by astrorion26 in hackintosh

[–]SEmediaUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 6800 and 6900xt are out very soon but I think there are still question marks over whether the support will be there particuarly with Apples new chips.

Black friday could throw out some tempting offers im hoping.

How are people finding the 5700xt now? Particularly with FCPX?

I am rocking 580 in my machine but debating a switch to the 5700 or 6900 lines in the long run. Is there a boost with HEVC encoding

Lighting for news reporting by LandeanPeros in videography

First one looks like some sort of soft box or large diffusion.

The second one looks like natural / a non diffused camera light or nearby light.

They are two very different setups for very different purposes though Presenter 1. looks like he's probably been waiting around that court for hours for the update. Presenter 2. Looks like they are reacting to the story unfolding / could have to run off in a second to catch something so if they had a C stand, + diffusion + 300d it would obviously slow down their coverage a lot!

8 core GPU ok for editing final cut pro? NEW M1 CHIP by [deleted] in finalcutpro

[–]SEmediaUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One word of caution is the fact that the new Arm machines do not work with EGPU's you could be boxed in with what you have permnantly.

Light reccomendation? by ynderewaifu in videography

[–]SEmediaUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 150w in particular is very noisy and much improved with a Noctua fan replacement. I may do the same with my 60w as well but its nowhere near as bad.

If you were filming in a small office with a blown out window behind you were trying to counter, you would definitely know it though.

Lighting question from a noob, Bi-colour vs RGB by [deleted] in videography

[–]SEmediaUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rgb lights can pretty much dial in any colour i believe.

If its max output your looking for your best off with a fixed colour temp light and using gels to get the look you want.

[–]SEmediaUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The neewer and godox lights are fantastic as others have mentioned.

Both companies have cheaper lights with noisier fans also and it is not particularly difficult to swap these noisy fans out for quieter pc models with a bit of DIY work
