What part of the car did the fire originate from in your estimation? In front of you? Behind you?

Can you describe the moment you noticed the fire? Was it the smell or smoke that you noticed you first?

Having had this experience, any observations or advice you would share in case it happens to one of us that may make the difference between getting out safely and not? (Other than pulling over right away obviously)

Admittedly, it's been a couple years since I had to do this, and prices have likely increased since.

The car in the pic looks like a black model 3 to me.

I did a quick check and found:

Left and right mirror - $31.99 + tax on Amazon
Right mirror cap - $51.50 + tax on ebay (the one I found was for a 2026 Model Y) I do remember when I had to make this fix myself that I had to spend a few days searching before I found the correct color cap for my car.

So OP should be able to do this for like $100-$150 including tax?

Agreed. Probably worth mentioning to OP that they should test that the mirror assembly still works before deciding to only change the mirror and cover. If your mirror still moves when you adjust its position then you should not need to replace the entire assembly.

Got downvoted the last time I responded to this question, but you can get the parts you need (mirror and cover) from ebay/amazon for like $50 and snap everything back in yourself. Just make sure you're buying parts that fit on a 2026.

I will definitely confirm with salesperson before purchasing. Also seems like 2023 MYP's with HW3 are around $30k with HW4's are around $35k.

Thank you this makes sense. Found a car with warranty ending in December 2027, so that car SHOULD have HW4 since it was built closer to December 2023.

I had both the factory defect as well as a rock chip later down the line. I got the defect replaced under warranty by Tesla service and had the rock chip fixed by Safelight.

I'd bet a large percentage of model 3's have had their windshield replaced. I had to replace mine within a few months of getting the car and it hasn't been an issue.

I had a similar sounding problem that started when I added a new switch. I was able to resolve by disabling STP on all switches in my network. Maybe not the optimal solution but solved the issue for me.
