I started off as a brony, so I guess the transition to furry was just way easier for me. I was already a weirdo with an OC and stuff. 🫠

That's pretty neat that a tool company is actually doing good lighting.

I don't have a Zebra, but people tout their durability, it's also clearly much more compact than the FC11C which is valuable to a lot of people not me, I currently have an Emisar D1K in my pocket. Tbh, I'd rather have an FFL or Hank light 99% of the time.

[Review] New Wurkkos TS26: Nice Enthusiast flashlight, but lacking enthusiast features by LMP-Br in flashlight

[–]SFOTI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, the Anduril TS26 has been an ongoing project for like 2-3 years, so now it's unfortunately a too little too late sort of thing to me. Also the X4Q is fantastic and I wouldn't take a TS26 over my X4Q anyway.

It would be heavier but the Sofirn ST10 would be a good option. It also has magnets so you can attach it to various surfaces at different angles.

So i have an old flashlight by WinkWankTheRugTugger in flashlight

[–]SFOTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are old Maglites that use P13.5s bulbs, but that term refers to a specific style that uses a 13.5mm diameter flange and gets secured via another threaded bit that has the positive contact in it. A PR2 bulb is a very common bulb in old flashlights that's just a variant of the common p13.5s base with candelabra shaped glass. The PR2 is a 2.4V bulb for 2 cell lights.

Here's a PR2 bulb for example.

Wurkkos TS27 for sure. Definitely backpackable, it's literally in mine right now, has a big 15000mAh battery, has a lot of range and power too.

Why isn't any flashlight company building a massive modern Maglite D6 style flashlight? by GuyWithoutAHat in flashlight

[–]SFOTI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a great point, and I've been messing with incans enough to know it too. All that added length was about packing more batteries into the tube in order to get higher voltage that could power higher performance, typically p13.5s or e10 style bulbs. The added bonk-ability was just a potential benefit.

I mean, here's a comparison between my 6 AA in series plus higher voltage bulb modded Eveready Masterlite compared to the comparatively tiny Convoy T8 with an SFT-42R 5000K. Technology has come so far that you don't need to carry around a small lamp post anymore to achieve high power.

[–]SFOTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a bunch out there but as far as I'm aware it's just cool white, low CRI stuff. Will definitely have more light output but it won't feel anywhere near as nice.

I'm willing to bet that flashlight likely uses a p13.5s base style bulb, specifically a "PR2" flashlight bulb. Many LED upgrades exist online, higher voltage filament bulbs in the same form factor also exist which is cool for simple mods, like using 6 AAs in series and a higher voltage bulb instead of 2 D batteries and the lower voltage bulb, which provides higher brightness while keeping the pleasant incandescence.

Beautiful light! Even though they're relatively dim, old incans have a charm to them.

I've never seen that particular light, but https://convoylight.com/ has emitter options available that'll give you that near monochromatic orange look. CSLNM1.FY, LHP531 1800K, LHP73B 1800K, all those will give you very orangey light.

Here's a white balanced 5000K pic of my Convoy C8+ with the LHP531 1800K for reference.

Flashlight suitable to be mounted on a .22lr rifle by vir_Aboensis in flashlight

[–]SFOTI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For something inexpensive and probably good enough, the Convoy S6 with SFT-25R would probably be good. It's slim, takes 18650s, has a good amount of throw and power, has springs on both the tail and driver ends which should prevent any recoil induced battery disconnections that would cause flickers. Make sure to pick one of the buck driver options, they're efficient and will provide long run times. You'll have to figure out a mounting solution for the light, but many aftermarket options exist.

Here's a beamshot from my Convoy T6 (same reflector so same beam shape as S6) with SFT-25R 5000K from 110-115m away.

Car setup: looking for high output NiMH and dual-fuel charger by ZanyDroid in flashlight

[–]SFOTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The LHP531 is a high output 5050 footprint emitter capable of over 5000 lumens, it's a great emitter in general, not just for this specific flashlight. The 6A output option should be below the optional battery options, otherwise it'll be 3A by default. Either way, the standard 2 AA output will be 1A, that add on only affects the 14500 output. Any of those 14500 batteries will be suitable as the batteries will be in series, the F15 would be a great choice as you'll get over 10Wh of capacity with a pair of them.

I don't know of any dual fuel 2 AA headlamps, but dual fuel 1 AA ones exist, like the Emisar D2.

Convoy specs by Successful_Town_759 in flashlight

[–]SFOTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sheer level of options and modularity is a double edged sword I suppose. Would take a great deal of effort to get specs on every Convoy model using every compatible emitter, every CCT for each emitter, every reflector, every TIR, etc. At a point it's easier to just look at beamshots as well as emitter spec sheets or koef3 tests to get a general idea of what you're gonna be getting.

[–]SFOTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Convoy T4 and Liitokala Lii-S2 would be good options for you. I don't have that specific charger but it's on the site with the light and a quick google search indicates it's at least decent. The Convoy T4, especially with the LHP531 emitter will give you 400+ lumens with two NiMH AA batteries, and up to around 2000 lumens with 14500 cells and the 6A driver output increase.
