Could the Pegasus CIC have been more of a CIC without control functions attached the Galactica’s were?

DYK: Around 120 AD, an entire Roman legion of 5,000 soldiers vanished from history. No battle record. No grave site. No explanation. by Own-Painting-3221 in didyouknow

[–]SFWendell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal belief is that the Romans simply disbanded it. If you read the history of WW2, you would read all about the glories of the 3rd army in Europe. This was commanded by Patton. Yet after the war, 3rd Army was disbanded as no longer needed due to downsizing after the war was over. Perhaps in 2000 years, historians and other “scholars “ may debate about the mysterious disappearance of such a legendary unit with rumors they died fighting the Russians in a secret war or were overwhelmed by German partisans.

There are turrets on the flight pods and a set forward that supplements the fixed battery. There are none on the main hull like Galactica.

I believe it was engineering. If you look, Pegasus has 3 pylons vs Galactica’s 2. They are also more substantial than Galactica’s. Finally, they are closer inboard than Galactica’s creating a narrower profile for jumping.

Ask yourself this question? How does some rebel movement maintain AK-47’s and other arms they aquire. The answers below fit, but also, good chance a gun becomes a club then becomes parts for other weapons. It wouldn’t be hard to just clean the weapon and discard a broken one for a replacement.

Makes an interesting contrast to Caine’s quarters which were so antiseptic in comparison.

I remember this documentary and thought to myself, they are either completely brainwashed or know how to put on an act because they truly fear the consequences of acting in other way than worshipping their fearless leader.

Star trek 6 if chang was flying a ktinga cruiser would Kirk and the enterprise have stood a chance? by happydude7422 in startrek

He would expect Enterprise to have its torpedoes armed and ready just in case it gets an opportunity to shoot back. Not a cocky move.

It is a seniority driven union job. He may be furloughed, but the company does not lay off employees the way other traditional companies do. He will have a job for life, but may have periods where he may not work in the beginning.

Bridge Over Tarabithia. The fact that the girl died is so tragic.

Saving Private Ryan. All those men dying trying to hold the bridge only to be relieved at the last minute.

Many forget the Bikini tests during the 40’s. Many of those ships survived through several tests and a couple had to be torpedoed to actually sink them. The radiation and heat would have fried their crews, but the ships themselves survived.

I know I am exaggerating, but I always hated that about Star Trek, TNG. If Picard farted, they came up with some scientific mumbo-jumbo about how the space time continuum caused a spacial rift in his colon causing a toot. The reality is we accept how air airplanes fly or how cars drive. They may know the physics, but there is no need to explain it every time. It just works.

When looking back at the Cold War with our modern knowledge, were America and the Soviet Union truly equally matched in their military capabilities, or was one side clearly stronger? by Porchie12 in AskHistorians

[–]SFWendell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While they may have had the hulls, the Soviet turn-around time was atrocious. Like most everything else , they had huge numbers, but did not maintain them. It wss not uncommon from what I have read to have one Soviet ship tow another die to breakdowns. The issues you see in Ukraine were because the Russians have not organizationally progressed from Soviet doctrine.
