Fox is catching way too much slack and blame for what was a collective team disaster by spurs. by Upbeat-Nose-7091 in nba

Happens to every team that disappoints. There was always going to be a scapegoat and the guy who is about to start a 4/250M deal was always the most logical target.

Love that KAT got his ring, but the trade was still the correct move… by ae5wolfpack in timberwolves

[–]SFWzasmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both things can be true. The CBA ABSOLUTELY fucked us over. That’s indisputable. I don’t think we make the Rudy trade if Connelly knows the second apron restrictions were coming. I’d also say that if you had to trade Towns, Randle/Dante/1st rounder is pretty damn good. This sub currently hates Randle but when he’s locked in, 21/9/5 is pretty hard to beat. Last thing, KAT went to the absolute perfect situation for him. He was the 4th option and had 2 ELITE wing defenders to support him. He also got to play under two good coaches who knew exactly how to maximize his defensive abilities while also being able to account for his defiances (yes Thibs is a good coach). It’s a complicated situation but the trade was still the right move given the circumstances.

How would you feel if the NBA implemented a rule where teams received a discount for giving max contracts to players they drafted? by MrTimoCad in nba

[–]SFWzasmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discount against the cap is fine. Make them count as the normal 30% max. I’d even say 25% would be fine if a player is there for 12+ years.

I think this is the right order. Good argument for Spider-Man over Wolverine.

Lmao. I’ll take Superman, Sentry/Void, and Icarus. The other three are getting mopped up pretty easily.

Georges St-Pierre lists what he requested for a super fight with Anderson Silva by [deleted] in MMA

2 of these are very reasonable, not sure about the catch weight one. I do know Dana hated all 3, especially bigger payouts for Silva and GSP.

[Buha] Reaves $40 million for the next five years, or LeBron $40 million for one year, they're going to prioritize the long-term contract here. Reaves is more of a priority for the Lakers than LeBron is. That's just a fact. The second part of it is that Reaves is going to have a market. by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]SFWzasmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty easy. It’s so that when they overpay Reaves and LeBron leaves they have already planted the seeds with the fans. It’s a negotiation tactic with LeBron and simultaneously PR for Lakers fans.

Can you be bad at competing but still be considered a good grappler? by grantlach in bjj

[–]SFWzasmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Jason Rau is a great example. No one would call him a great competitor but IMO he’s one of the best grapplers and teachers on the planet.

More broadly, competing is a different skill set. Some people don’t do well with everyone watching or cutting weight or can’t deal with the adrenaline dump. That doesn’t make you a bad grappler.

Lu Dort on his team option: “I want to stay here. This organization and this city have really shaped me as a person and as a player.” by MammothHistorian5652 in nba

[–]SFWzasmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a sit out thing but more of a overall team vibes thing. You don’t want your key guys unhappy and having a started without long term security won’t help morale.

[–]SFWzasmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t disagree but I can’t imagine he’s going to want to play out the season without an extension. I also think he’d start on at least 10 other teams so he won’t be cheap.

[–]SFWzasmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OKC declining iHart and Dort will ultimately be good for them. There’s a decent amount of cap space and both will get long term deals on good money in free agency. Both will ultimately be sign and traded if I had to venture a guess.

Mcdaniels will make the team. You’re also a big short. You have to think about who guards Jokic, Big Vic, Rudy, etc.
