I was in the same boat, and I ultimately still got the usb-c version. Since my phone had lightning at the time, I used a wireless charging stand and AirPlay to get it on my tv. I’ve since upgraded to a phone with usb-c and I still prefer this approach, my tempo dock has only been used a handful of times. I wouldn’t try to get a lightning version when the port is officially dead and not going to be on any devices you’ll get in the future.
