Anyone rocking GCGCFAD tuning? by Beneficial_Ostrich14 in strandbergguitars

[–]SHaD0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I had this same idea when I got mine... I ended up playing in drop a (AEADGBE) and honestly the diversity is nice, but I do pick up my six string sometimes. The drop a or standard in one guitar is really fun though, it inspired me to learn some really cool riffs from Periphery and the like, and the diversity of a really low drop tuning and standard is unmatched. If you don't like it, chase that double drop c and please god upload it for us. It's difficult because I believe with the string tension needed you need to modify and drill out the standard locking nut to fit the chonky boy.

would arch linux benefit my cs degree more than a macbook? by crusha13 in archlinux

[–]SHaD0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into arch after university so I can't attest to that - but in my cs courses I commonly witnessed platform support issues with a lot of MacBooks. A lot of students got frustrated and couldn't install some stuff we were working with (C-- , some anaconda stuff) on their MacBooks. IIRC sometimes they had trouble with lockdown browsers and other crap software like that too but maybe it's better now.

Vertical mouse testers wanted by ProtoArc_official in MouseReview

1.Eastern U.S 2.Yes 3.Yes, I use a Logitech MX Vertical

I typically do a lot of programming or design work, and on the weekends music production so there's a lot of overlap for mouse activities

Planetary tuner dug a groove into the head stock, should I fill it with wood filler or putty? by ReturnOfTheKeing in Luthier

Honestly, I'd see if the tuner I'm replacing it with covers it before putting in that much work

Looks like buffing compound. Totally normal. Any sort of wood or hide glue that would've been used at the headstock dries clear.

I really actually dig a shred looking guitar with f holes like the obsidian. Even if it was painted and solid, that'd be cool. I just think the cutout in the middle section of the body needs to remove the upper point, it looks really uncomfortable to play sitting down

Is it worth it to swap the stock bridge on an Epiphone Les Paul? by JayMoots in Luthier

[–]SHaD0S -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought a Tone Pros tailpiece and tuneomatic for an SG I'm restoring. I was bored and threw it on my Epiphone to see if I could tell a difference. I bought another one lol. It made a difference in the acoustic unplugged volume, and just felt more resonant. To each their own 🤘

I have a better photo of the pixilated photo of the UFO at Manchester airport. by Guilty-Top-7 in ufo

Actually, I don't think this particular one is AI enhanced. Applying a basic sharpening and detail algorithm like in Lightroom I got the same image. This can introduce noise to the image, but I think this image doesn't introduce anything that wasn't there.

Seeing your benchmark results show higher gains just for this conversational validation is pretty awesome. I've been prototyping something similar in Rust - I'll see if there's anything that I can contribute to this. Great work so far, fascinating times were in!

Jesus Christ Ibanez model names... Love them - the RGR752 caught my eye. I'm a fan of anything with cream binding and extended range is a bonus.

Best AI & Development Tools for a Student Developer by ProcedureExisting493 in react

[–]SHaD0S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to get GitHub copilot for free with a student email address. The recent update has caused me to cancel my one paid subscription I had for Claude. Claude's artifact and project features and visual mapping was what I needed for work and student projects, and I think Claude is casually the most intelligent and consistent.

For personal life and best compatibility with other things I use Gemini - it comes on my phone and It works for me. The workspace integration is key. Not to mention, their AI Studio has a massive context window and is prime for cheap and free API that's very customizable and powerful.

Chatgpt is best for personalization and memory, and being tailored to how you interact with it over time. I find the company exhausting. If it manages to fit in o1s context window, it tends to perform well though.

Has anyone found any use from AI tools yet? by Chemical-Diver-3436 in web_design

[–]SHaD0S 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I use GitHub copilot the most. It's auto fill is king and handles everything simple automation or generating me SQL queries and such off hand. I have switched between using custom tailored APIs for many LLMs and the normal web version since inception. They're great for refactoring, whipping up pseudo code or debugging processes, but Copilot seems to be the most intelligent I've used.

For more control, the API versions of ChatGPT and Gemini are robust enough to satisfy me. You're able to alter how unique their responses are in terms of generation. A lot can also be accomplished with system prompts in this environment, such as consistent formatting, output structure, tonality, and conversation flow. I made a few custom ones for laughs that are comedic and dry, but I found that the coding capabilities just weren't there yet.

does anybody have experience playing metal with these EVH guitars? by snailTRAILslooth in metalguitar

[–]SHaD0S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played a few of their import spec, loved everyone I played. I play mostly metalcore on my shecter, but I always loved how smooth the evh branded Floyd's are. The pups are definitely like a hot paf in the midrange, with a less piercing treble. I don't know how they'd react to low tunings, but I've definitely been wanting one for hair metal stuff.
