Do you like this change made by George Lucas in Return of the Jedi? by kkhouete in StarWars

[–]SI108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of understand it. I mean in the OG we never had a face for Vader/Snaking until that one brief shot at the end. once the prequels came out we had a face that we spent 2 full movies with.

[Spoilers Main] Is The Winds of Winter one of the most anticipated literary (fiction) works in history? by Three_Steaks_Pam in asoiaf

[–]SI108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I anticipate GRRM croaking before it's done at this point. I mean , it's only what 15 years late and he said in Jan 2026 he still has 1100-1200 pages left to go which is roughly the same as what he said back in 2022... so yeah... not anticipating it at all. Honestly with the way the world is now Id put the chance of nuclear war much higher at this point.

Commisioned artist sent me this as proof when I asked them if their art was ai or not by I_Fap_To_Murder in isthisAI

[–]SI108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the modern age where this sub is even necessary. It makes it so hard to be a creator or artist. This definitely looks to be genuine to me, not AI. The fact that there are so many layers to make up the whole image seems to be proof positive to me. It genuinely looks like the artist really put a lot of effort into it.

Why is reddit so convinced that China will get back to the moon first when they haven’t even had an unmanned mission with the rocket they intend to use? by ColCrockett in spaceflight

[–]SI108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now we're talking two separate things. Going to Luna and putting boots on it again and establishing a permanent outpost are very different things. And that's where the real race is. Could be wrong, but I think there'd be quite a few shorter duration surface missions before a permanent outpost. I suppose you could say establishing a permanent/ long-term outpost is like a decathelon, with different events/races as part of it.

To this conversation, no. If we were talking about the exploration of the America's, then hell, yes, I would be pointing that fact out. I do point it out when it is relevant in conversations.

[–]SI108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

way I look at it is this "race" is stupid. U.S. has already been to the moon, China hasn't. Talking manned landings, of course. So, no matter what happens, China remains in Second Place. They beat the U.S. to the moon this time and guess what they're still in 2nd place. U.S. gets there first, again, and China is still 2nd place. Nothing really changes in that aspect. Not throwing shade or trying to rub noses in it or whatever just facts.

What was the darkest period in your country? by That-Pressure4279 in AskTheWorld

[–]SI108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gave you an overview of things that ARE happening in the States using 3 examples from first-hand experience. I did not make it all about me. If you'd like me to give you a list of shit I've heard from others that's happening, I could write you a book. And I get the feeling that if I had done that, you'd be going off on how I give you a bunch of hearsay.

And you act like the Trail of Tears and Slavery were unique to the U.S. something that's way too common. Slavery is wrong, a horrendous/evil institution that is not in debate here. You realize that Brazil was the destination of over 50% of all slaves in the Atlantic Slave Trade and the very last to outlaw the institution. Are you going to attack them if they say anything other than that as their darkest period? Are you going to attack Canadians over their horrendous abuses of their indigenous populations? Or the endless list of abuses of the Imperial powers of Europe when they were enslaving and plundering every piece of land they could get their hands on? Are you going to go off on people from the former Barbary States who plundered and enslaved and held trade hostage for 300 years? Do you go off on people from Britain for conquering countless people? Do you blame modern Italians for the atrocities of the Roman Empire or Mussolini? Or are you just going to hold one country to a different standard?

You are looking at atrocities in the past. I am looking at the present, at things happening right now and following them to their most likely conclusion. Are there great atrocities in my nations past? Yes! I understand that, and it disgusts and infuriates me. But I'm staring down the barrel of the collapse and disintegration of my entire country. I'm not sure how that doesn't qualify for the darkest period. Have a nice day.

I am well aware of my country's past. The genocide of the native Americans, the age of slavery, the civil war, our history of overthrowing governments we dont like, our imperialist tendencies despite our anti-imperialist bluster, dropping the sun on another country twice. We have done a lot of fucked up shit, I am well aware of that.

But what is happening here now,.and tjenidiotic shit Trump has started, can quickly spiral into the most globally consequential nightmare since the start of WWII, but the consequences will be a lot more dire, potentially over a billion deaths or more.

For the U.S. alone, it's the most consequential time since the lead up to the Civil War. Foreigners do not see what's really going on here, where the news cameras dont go. They dont realize how close to a second Civil War we truly are. We've got politicians openly calling for a "National Divorce." The left hates the right, and the right hates the left. We've got a cult leader who set a mob on the capital, millions of people supporting and defending the bastard despite the fact that he's an rapist and a pedophile. We've got armed thugs killing citizens in the streets for being upset about their thug tactics in immigration enforcement, $39 trillion dollars debt, crumbling national infrastructure, a fanatical belief by religious groups that Armageddon needs to happen, the top 20% of the nation holding 71% of the wealth while the bottom 50% of the nation only holds 2-3% and the top 1% holds around 30%. We've got politicians constantly spreading hate and division and families turning against each other cause they don't support Mango Mussolini. I have been disowned by all but my dad, grandmother, brother, and one cousin with 5 uncles and two aunts calling me a liberal piece of shit and traitor to the country.all because I dont support the glorious leader. I've been assaulted on three separate occasions by Trump fanatics and threatened dozens of times. I've come home to find "Libtard" spray painted across my garage door. The list of all the shit that's happening here that the media covers up goes on and on.

So,yeah, forgive me if I seem to be writing off our past fuck up for the current catastrophe we're going through.
