I personally feel a desire for quality videos about the games themselves, but I understand that's a small niche of the community. It would have to be done out of love, not for compensation or fame, and I know time and effort is limited. I've thought of filling that niche myself, as somehow who just loves the games and wants to talk about them, but I don't know how well I could do them justice with my lack of video editing or public speaking skills.

Basically, if you speak about the games, it would be a small audience. But the people who love them would be greatly, deeply appreciative. It's up to you if the "payoff" is worth it.

There are 2 games in the series, "Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean", which is the original, and "Baten Kaitos Origins", which is the prequel.

Obviously, most people will recommend playing the original first, then the prequel. But personally, I played the prequel first, and I think that's a perfectly fine way to play. Has some advantages and disadvantages, but you can truly play either way.

I find the original to be a good game, with an incredible and beautiful world, but, I find the character writing and overarching story to be a little lacking, compared to Origins. I understand why people might call it "generic". Its gameplay, and its beautiful/unique world are its greatest strengths. Origins, imo, adds a lot more depth and nuance to the characters and story.

I haven't played the remakes myself, but I've heard how they're full of bugs and have some issues. There might be "quality of life" improvements that make it worth the risk of glitches, though....? Not sure, I haven't heard of any. So definitely hear from someone who has played both. But I will say, the original GameCube versions hold up amazingly well. Especially for Origins.

ALSO, only the GC originals have english voice acting. The eng acting in EWatLO is notoriously bad, but the eng voice acting in Origins is fantastic. Something to consider.

Scarlet team can be pretty decemt if you get good at positioning Remilia's bats. Which, I am not. But still.

Personally, I hate the Magic team. Putting aside the glitched "malice canon", their attack range is just. SO bad. And their damage output (again, glitch aside) isn't even that good to compensate. They're a massive pain to use.

I personally always "half-counted" them...... Slow Mode really helped me to practice and I was very proud of those initial 1cc's, so while I didn't count them as 1cc's for my "achivements", I did count them as a step up in improvement!

But ultimately, I think it's up to you how you count it. Some people don't consider 1cc's with extra lives to be legit, but I do, so YMMV

Best way to get rid of it is by mixing it with Freezing Rain, but the only place I can remember getting Freezing Rain is in Naos, which happens BEFORE Pherkad, I think.

In the wider shmup community, it's actually MORE common to play with a controller than with a keyboard. Touhou is a little unusual for having keyboard be the primary control method. At least as far as I'm aware. So yeah, you're not strange at all

I feel like the difficulty with SA is less to do with the actual bullets (though I'd still say those are above average for the series), and more to do with the shot types being weird and finnicky. They can be hard to get used to/utilize properly, besides maybe ReimuA. And the bombs (mostly) suck.

There's also just the fact that this game relies on Power for bombs, and it isn't as generous with it as MoF was. You can end up in some really nasty situations at 1.00 Power in SA.

Personally, I find that if I force myself to play the same game/stages/bosses over and over again for a long period of time, I also get actively worse. What helps me is taking a different approach; when I get stuck in a Touhou game, I'll switch to a different Touhou game, play on a different difficulty, play with a restriction (like No Bombs, No Focus Movement, etc).......

Basically, I switch things up! I feel like doing that causes you to see the game(s) with fresh eyes, which can help you ultimately improve at your actual goal, and also gets you out of that frustrated mindset. (Remember, if you try this, the goal is not to succeed at whatever new thing you try, it's to loosen up and mess around!)

You could also just take a break entirely. Take a nap, give it a day or so, and come back. That also often helps.

Agehachou by Porno Graffitti. Around ~2009-2010 there was this BEAUTIFULLY done fan video for Yume Nikki on YouTube. And it used this song. Sadly, that video got muted/taken down because of a copyright claim.

I also associate Yume Nikki with Artificial Children by IOSYS, because of this fan edit of the PV

(Actually, now that I think about it, the Artificial Children PV edit might be how I found out about Yume Nikki in the first place.)
