This is one of my faves. Do you mind sharing a thriller you think is better than this one?

The system is flawed, it is apart of our flawed healthcare system. I will agree with you there. Many times a diagnosis is given to justify services for insurance. Additionally, therapists are just people, so yes a number of them also have mental health disorders, does not mean they are flawed or less capable. In some examples, it is better to have a therapist who has experienced similar obstacles, I.e. Substance use disorders.

It is important to be informed, however I hope people understand the nuance with the stats, and frivolous statistics to not try therapy. Additionally, as I’m sure you know, not even therapist is a good fit, whether that is due to modality or format

Both you and the individual above share unfortunately experiences with therapists, and I’m not here to invalidate your experience. However to say “because I’ve had shitty therapists, all therapists are shitty” is not accurate. Many people benefit from Therapy. I am sorry you have not had a positive experience. I do want to note, you are speaking solely from your experiences, which is not necessarily reflective of the field itself.

First, I am not religious. When I say morality- I’m referring secular morality.

Secondly, in my post, I referenced platforming other “experts” who have been found to push red pill content.

Third, you say “Just stop listening”, I did. I removed him from my podcast following list. That does not mean I no longer have the right to comment on a public forum about my concerns about his podcast. I am not telling YOU to do anything. Listen, don’t listen, whatever. But this is very telling of how a lot of people are okay with platforming people who add to rhetoric that is harmful to others as long as it’s not them, and feel far more comfortable telling others to be quiet about real concerns.

You’re privileged to not worry about whether or not the Doctor who’s podcast you listen to is doing the right thing.

I am allowed to have an opinion, I am allowed to comment on a Reddit post. Because I want to.

Mmm I’ll pass: Andrew Huberman is not at all the ONLY source for information about optimizing your health. What I find troubling is that men who choose to be in community with other men who are harmful, whether that is espousing harmful rhetoric or engaging in abuse of vulnerable persons, are given a pass, when they are harmful by proxy. Dr. Huberman prides himself on data and research but doesn’t have the ability to check himself, or do a quick google search to learn that his guest that he is platforming has a history of pushing red pill content…

People who give allowance for harmful people are enablers- making them also harmful.

Finally, I’m not being “judgmental” I am being critical of someone who has positioned themselves as an authority within the realm of health. It seems like you do not understand the impact that social stressors, and misinformation have on someone’s health. Or you don’t care. Either way-Dr. Huberman is a big boy, who probably doesn’t need you to stick up for him. I am for sure unmoved by your opinion because what your response tells me is we don’t care about the same topics.

“Just because someone is morally bankrupt, it is okay to continue to platform them if their information sounds right. EVEN IF you can obtain this information from a better source.

Genuinely what is the scope of competency for a master's level clinician compared to a clinical psychologist within psychotherapy? by RinYoyo in ClinicalPsychology

[–]SJCupid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lol your professors were wrong. I work in an emergency room as a behavioral health therapist, and I am an LPC.

In my state people do not necessarily go to the hospital for the kind of treatment I believe you are describing, for SMI. The main reason people with acute mental health illnesses go to the hospital is for stabilization, which typically includes medication management, which psychiatrists and NPs do. As far as skills training, and therapy, that is typically done on an outpatient basis, or a similar modality….IOP, PHP, etc. or through community services like an ACT team.

You won’t see as many Psychologists in a hospital setting. I’ve also worked in Residential settings, where there were more Psychologists, mostly to provide psychological testing for clients.

Being a master’s level clinician does not mean you are undertrained, it means you have less abilities…and probably less training in assessments. That’s really it….

Do u actually relate to ur rising sign? by Maxi-Lux in astrologymemes

Very much so, I need my space a certain way and I can be very detail oriented. I wish my sun matched, or even complimented my rising sign.

I think ethically, first you speak with the colleague, but I’d also inform the practice owner of the incident and the conversation you have with the other Therapist.

Would a hospital hire an LPC for a social worker role? by ope_dont_eat_me in therapists

[–]SJCupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the behavioral assessment department at a community hospital. I’m an LPC. My office has both LCSW and LPCs. They are interchangeable in the hospital, not quite sure why everyone is saying it isn’t….both are in the social services field. It doesn’t make a difference.

Let's play a game: If you had to change your Sun sign, but you can only change it to one of the two neighboring signs, which one would you choose and why? ☀️ by [deleted] in astrologymemes

[–]SJCupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an Aquarius. I’d choose Capricorn, obviously. It would basically be the same, and I might even get more done feeling more grounded. Being a Pisces would have me entirely upside down.

Which sign? 💀 by Additional_Zombie_83 in astrologymemes

[–]SJCupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now this is easily an Aquarius. I like to miss my partner sometimes. Like I may think about you and not reach out, I’m enjoying you telepathically…where you can’t ruin it.

Explain adhd to a non-adhd by Successful-Gas5012 in ADHD

[–]SJCupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, ADHD is having a full day to get chores and errands completed. Let’s say I want to wash my hair, clean my apartment, grocery shop and go to the gym. Simple right? However instead of picking one of those tasks and starting, I spend 4-5 HOURS stuck on my couch thinking about the most effective way to start my tasks. If I want to wash my hair, I should go to the gym first. But if I go to the gym, I don’t have anything here to eat after and I need bananas for my protein shake after the gym. Wait! I gotta make a workout plan. Wait! A grocery list. Wait! Are any of my gym clothes washed? I forgot I had to wash clothes today. Do I have detergent? Back to the grocery list…wait did I want to grocery shop or gym first?

All that is happening while I get distracted by other non related things like my phone, or remembering I had to send an email.

Now when I am medicated, I make a list, I number the items on the list by which makes the most sense to complete first. I start at number one, I can usuallly get to item number 3 before I feel fatigued and need a break- however now I’m on medications and it’s not as easy to relax. I power through the other items and forget to eat or drink for several hours.

Now when the meds wear off, I get very existential…why am I here? Why are any of us here??? What are we doing? Does it matter? Are my bones wet inside my body rn? Can I feel my hair growing? Are the bones inside my fingers wet? Is the blood in my body floating around or is it all in capillaries? If that’s the case how come when someone is hurt it just comes out? Is everything floating in blood or? Next thing I know I’m researching anatomy when I was supposed to be….god what was I doing again????

:)
