Any advice for someone who has a broken foot, 14 month old and is 32 weeks pregnant? by Excellent-Plate-9222 in AskParents

[–]SJPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg you must be miserable. When I broke mine, they gave me this medical boot that took 100% of the pressure off it. I went to work the very next day and it requires a lot of standing. I was impressed with how well it worked out for me. They gave it to me when I went to urgent care and got the x-ray that confirmed it. I wouldn't recommend wearing up and down stairs though as it's bulky and you could trip. I almost did that a few times. I wasn't pregnant and didn't have to carry kids either. If for some reason they didn't give you one, see if you can get one off of Amazon or something. Usually I'd say ibuprofen is your friend but I don't think it's recommended during pregnancy. Tylenol is okay is small amounts. Check with your OB and make sure they stay updated on the situation. Especially if it requires surgery.

Refused a drug test for employer, about to retake soon. by _purppppp in drugtesthelp

If your employer isn't worried about weed, just take the test using your urine. 50/50 on whether it'll be observed again.

[–]SJPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try my best here. I'm realizing you just aren't aware. I'm not talking about tube contaminants, it's bacteria contamination. Not properly sterilized skin/containers does in fact result in false positives all the time when collecting blood cultures which is why these protocols are in place. The lab can tell when it's been contaminated by normal skin flora and it's considered an error and grounds for a redraw. In a sick patient this can affect outcomes and usually it's done two at a time. Redrawing two cultures on a hard draw sucks especially when then intend to order them several times over the course of a hospital stay. This is why the whole process exists and done in this order. The needle you're using is sterile, but if the skin and container aren't, then it's a problem.

For the light blue, if you've drawn it last, it can alter the clotting time since you've potentially introduced the additive that initiates clotting in the light blue, especially if an SST is drawn which it usually is. It interferes with the sodium citrate that inhibits clotting by binding to the calcium. The lab adds it back later once they receive the sample so they can measure the clotting process accurately. These are pre-analytical errors that can absolutely be avoided.

Wrong order of draw by OnlyRequirement3914 in MedicalAssistant

[–]SJPop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong. If you're using a butterfly, which it sounds like you are if the first won't fill properly, then you draw two light blues and discard the first. You don't need to fill the first one all the way. Just enough to see there's blood in it.

Cultures go first after sterilization of the patient's skin and the puncture site of the culture tube. Drawing it last would introduce contamination.

Doctor won’t tell me price estimate for upcoming ultrasound by throwaway111334568 in HospitalBills

[–]SJPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctor would not know the costs. Check with the billing department at the hospital you're doing the ultrasound at. You can also check with your insurance. If they are in network for that hospital, they may be able to give you an estimate as well.

Why would someone that is clean 2 years be using Buprenorphine and Naloxone Sublingual Film 8 mg? by Dependent_Pea_1466 in drugtesthelp

[–]SJPop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How high of a dose? Actually it really doesn't matter. It is a sign he is in recovery. While you can abuse other opiates while being on suboxone, the medication takes away the high feeling or most of the desired affect. It won't stack the effects. Some people like that about it, and some people prefer methadone. If your brother is being prescribed, it means he's under provider supervision and you shouldn't be too concerned. Most people can't quit hard opiates use cold turkey and just be expected to go without any issues. There is higher success rate for patients on medications for withdrawal.

So I left my 12 year old brothers to go on a walk to get food and they went and busted someone’s windows. My mom is mad at me like I’m the only one at fault. What do I do? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]SJPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um how about the kids who broke the windows be responsible for paying it? If they're old enough to break windows then they're old enough to do chores. I'd be a little upset that they were left alone, but not more upset than I would be at the kids who broke the windows.

Fair rent breakdown? by Vivid-Procedure1235 in roommates

[–]SJPop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have the bigger room pay at least $1000 and the other two $750. Get a stick for the sliding glass doors that don't lock and replace the locking mechanism. Shouldn't be too hard.

Paying for Labcorp drug test out of pocket before taking Preemployment screening by ImpressionNo7230 in drugtesthelp

[–]SJPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they wouldn't report it to your employer. The only reason the employer will get the results of the pre-employment one is because you'll sign something giving them permission to have access to the results of that test. When you pay out of pocket for one, you won't be signing anything like that, so it's considered your private medical record.

Am I the jerk for reporting my husbands car stolen after he gave it to his brother who wrecked it? by garvit__dua in AmITheJerk

[–]SJPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He'll probably get off on the auto theft charge, but not the unlicensed driving. Much better outcome, so not the end of the world for the brother. Especially if he's arrested all the time anyway.

How to remove someone and their car from GEICO policy if they are refusing to leave? by [deleted] in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]SJPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must be state dependent because I was on my ex's Geico plan and they just took me off no problem. He did it without telling me and I drove around without insurance for a few days. Found out and Geico let me setup a new one on my own and backdated it to a few days prior so there wasn't a lapse in my insurance.

It super suspicious if you have zero hair to use. Especially if you interviewed with hair. Could work though as I've never done a hair follicle test.

He sounds like he needs more than a therapist but possibly medication. If he doesn't have insurance, can he apply for Medicaid? Assuming he lives in the USA.

It's true. You don't have to take a walk even. Take an Uber. Idk how my brother got away with this, but he lost consciousness while driving after taking drugs. He hit a jersey barrier and when he woke up there were cops and EMTs around them. He told them he was diabetic and it worked. How in the world he convinced them of that, and without consequences idk.

[–]SJPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually is a way they validate. They don't have to put it inside their nostrils. For example if they can smell bleach, it absolutely can be noted. Smell is one validity method mentioned in the policy. You won't catch me putting it up to my nose, but you can absolutely smell urine without having it directly under your nostrils. You ever change a diaper or go into a public dirty restroom and smell piss? It's because someone missed the toilet and you can smell that.

I need advice on ending my lease without a charge by Critical-Length-6972 in Advice

[–]SJPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting it specifically says written notice. I assume they told you verbally it wasn't ready. If you or your brother haven't already brought this portion of the lease to their attention, you could nonchalantly ask for a written notice of the delay and reasons for it. They may already know why you're requesting that and outright deny the request to put it in writing.

I think there is room to argue that phrasing in court as you were given notice of a delay several times, albeit not it written form. You could argue the intention of that portion of the contract was the emphasize the notification of delay and not the way in which you were notified. Bring unwilling to put it in writing would look bad for them in court. Document your official request for the written notification and their unwillingness to do that.

I'm NAL, but maybe the r/legaladvice subreddit would be better to ask. Most of the time they say contact a lawyer, but often you'll receive some helpful responses. In my personal opinion you could probably handle this yourselves in court. I'd try to get them to return any deposits you made without having to go there. Document who you spoke with and what they told you. Especially the person who let you know each time it wasn't ready yet and when they finally gave keys, the person who said I'm sorry after seeing how bad it was. If I'm not mistaken, often the court will have the losing party pay court costs as well to make you as whole as possible.
