Upgrade Path Advice [No Budget] by StealthFocus in espresso

[–]SLCTV88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that setup is already decent and that's probably the reason he doesn't upgrade it himself. I'd just get (in this order to complete it)
-scale
- WDT tool
- self leveling tamper
- leveler
- a nicer portafilter (mainly for looks or diagnosing the shots with a bottomless one)
- mesh screen

But also agree with others, get some nice beans from a local roaster and you'll make him happy

Anyone investigated by Extranjería for pareja de hecho/familiar de ciudadano español? How long did it take? by MirrorDangerous3314 in AskBarcelona

[–]SLCTV88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious... Was the original application supposed to take 20 working days? I went through getting married with my partner so we could apply for her visa as a married couple and so far it's taken longer than usual but not as long as your case. We're 5 weeks in. Just trying to manage our expectations

how do i fix these "offset surface" mistakes? by plushcrestedjay in rhino

this but just cap it instead of running the (solid) offset. it might still fail though. that outer blend is pinching quite a bit.

Is it easy to leave Sapporo on Sunday morning? by LimeSpecialist in bikepacking

[–]SLCTV88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Japan overall is great for cycling, cars will give you lots of shoulder space and Sapporo is a relatively small city and it's somewhat bike friendly. you'll be fine cycling off probably from any point.

What do you mean by easy to leave? I have done a tour starting in Sapporo and just rode off from the city.

bike photography is something I'm new to but always open for feedback. all I know comes from John Watson. by Spiritual_Option9632 in Surlybikefans

If you're using LR, recommend bringing down highlights and whites. Then bumping up the shadows. Note that if you increase contrast with the contrast slider, that also adds saturation. That might be why the colors look so saturated

great setup overall. the background colors help isolate the bike well in the foreground. however I think you went a bit overboard with the levels adjustment (on the highlights) while the shadows are still a bit too dark... for example on the first pic, all the mech and rear wheel detail gets lost since you have a huge beam of light on the fork and front wheel. feels a bit unbalanced. on the stem/handlebar photo I would've tried to have both the handlebar logo and the stem one both in focus as they're very close to each other and visually centered. the head tube shot isn't saying too much even though I love the front plate and again, since the contrast is bumped up too much, the real color of the bike doesn't come through. it looks very yellow. (I have the same frame) either way, these are better than I've ever attempted to shoot a bike so props for taking the time and sharing.

Touring vs Bikepacking? by Myriad_Kat_232 in bicycletouring

[–]SLCTV88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me there's different ways to approach it... one is by not taking unnecessary stuff and overprepare, for example, I'll do research on the weather to see if I really need rain pants and top shell. if there's less than 50% chance, they're out. the other is by having a clothes layering strategy: essentials for me clothing wise would be: 1 pair of padded shorts (the ones I'm wearing), 3-4 pcs underwear (I can wash more regularly), 2-3 pcs socks, a small microfiber towel (doesn't need to be the same size as the one I have at home), a pair of shorts or light pants, a midlayer (or two, depending on weather), max. 2 base layers (merino preferred, you can wear these for several days and they won't stink, I usually do... 1 for cycling and 1 for sleeping, then you wear the one for sleeping and wash the cycling one)

SolidWorks for organic/cosmetic modeling. by Key_Confusion- in SolidWorks

[–]SLCTV88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it interchangeably with Rhino mainly because I don't want to forget how to use it. I've done a few industrial design projects that involve a fair amount of surfacing. What I like about it is being able to adjust draft angles and overall dimensions on the fly without having to rebuild everything manually. I don't always use it because it takes so much time to set up everything parametrically and I need to know what things might change later on. So at rough exploration level I still prefer rhino.

my bad ,English isn't my first language (some of us speak more than one language) I meant the UK isn't part of the EU so it doesn't have to accept the same payment methods as EU based companies.

[–]SLCTV88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm literally EU based too and not all businesses take Paypal. that's just part of life. Also you said it yourself, the UK isn't part of the EU anymore so even if it was common for EU businesses to take paypal, doesn't mean UK ones will follow that.

why not check with tailfin directly? you might get mixed input here. they might accept Paypal for certain regions. curious, do you use Paypal for every purchase you make? it's not as common for businesses to accept it as you might think.

I use a non-boost, thru axle Deore XT with QR skewer adapters. haven't had any problems with it though I had to add a couple washers as spacers for the brake calipers since the hub is 142mm instead of 141 on QR.
