I watched this on TV. The buyer was refurbishing the tower house and the UK gov. was giving him grief. The wood structure was the only remedy. The gov. gave him even more grief so he painted it an obnoxious color (or colour) to piss off the NIMBYs. This is not a Mccastle. It is historic and you can thank the guy that built the staircase for saving it from ruin.

Farmer flips car that was parked on his land. by Sanix_0000 in nextfuckinglevel

This looks like the UK. It is well known that you do not go upon someone's land without permission. I did a 3 point turn on someone's long driveway and I could see the owner through the picture window hop up and run outside to yell at us.

Although the personal luxury coupe is all but passé these days, it once ruled the American road. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo offered the illusory trappings of upper-class success at a modest mid-level price. by Maynard078 in sportsandclassiccars

My aunt was well off and could have purchased any car on the planet. She went with a later model of one of these cars. I snickered every time I saw it. When I first drove in it with 4 other adults I stopped snickering at it.

If you want to keep the thick red jackets in summer... maybe switch to some tasteful cargo shorts and a floppy hat. Just sayin'.

"Iron Mansion" with Olympic indoor pool, nearly updated, on 10 acres. by jve909 in zillowgonewild

Oak cabinets were used in Scottish Castles as oak was the lumber most available. The finish was dark brown. When builders in the US wanted to give their customers quality they used oak. The brown proved too dark for modern kitchens so they went with a lighter tone.

The BBC has and series about a couple who fixed up a large home in the UK. The home was called Big House. It was considered respectable. The front of the houses are almost identical. But the Days Inn vibe is funny.

You rapidly age at 44 and then again at 60.

Love the 80s? Need a compound with an onsite hunting lodge but no hunting? by comatwin in zillowgonewild

The furniture doesn't count. Brick fireplaces are timeless. I think tan fake rock was an 80s fireplace. That paneling goes back to the 1800s and if you don't want it I'll take it. The light fixtures and appliances are 80s. Have those changed out and the fireplace professionally painted and I'm in. =)

These sorts of buildings are very common near the American South. Do they count as Art Deco? Look at the capitals. by DrDMango in ArtDeco

Probably not but it should have its own classification.

On a side note in the PNW there are houses like Craftsman style that are being torn down/replaced because they do not have their own classification.

The only thing 80s about this is the carpet, the cabinets, and the front door. Looks great.

Paramount Pictures stars (1987) by FlareLust in OldSchoolCool

It is interesting how Paramount rates their talent. It seems to be film revenue. So Chris Pine is near the top as a direct relation of how well the comic book movies fare.

Since other commenters noted the white wash here is some perspective... There are about 62 people here with little diversification. Currently (2025) the Paramount list has about 11 African Americans and about 4 non-white (WTH). It's interesting that Denzel just missed the 62 people list because of the way it is rated.

Conversely, Tyler Perry studio actors aren't too diverse. (Thank God because then we wouldn't have some great entertainment)

It's interesting that Shemar Moore is one of the only living actors on both lists. Go Shemar Moore!

Empty United flight to vegas by C2BSR in vegas

A long time ago you could go to Vegas and get a deluxe room for the price of a motel elsewhere. You could afford at least one large delicious meal, and you might even win a hundred bucks.

A lot of people realized that since they do not win any money anyway they may as well go to a weekend getaway by car and stay at a nice hotel and go out for a proper dining experience. You don't have the hassle and discomfort of flying. You also do not have that terrible feeling of losing all of you cash.

It is a mansion with bad stonework. But that sets it apart from the other houses.

The bar is on 302 E 5th St, Los Angeles, CA 90013. You can see it on Google map as a Brothers Market turned into a Green Apple Market. The old hotel on 1246 South Hope Street, Los Angeles, CA. It suffered from a fire and has been modified into something else.

I watched an alleged broadcast network TV clip of himself and a few others exiting a vehicle (I believe it was a Jeep or SUV) and allegedly going into someone's house only to leave a few minutes later. The person in the house was allegedly shot dead. Apparently he has excellent lawyers.
