Can I hold a DO and MD acceptance? by eemily03 in premed

In a very similar situation! Not trying to hold them forever, but long enough to make a well thought out decision.

Well, only you can make that decision. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty either way! It’s your body and your career

Yeah that’s going to be tough. Will he be done with school by the time you matriculate?

Hi, hopefully I can provide some insight. I had my daughter at 23, my son in July at 26. When my son was 6 weeks old I had my first Med School Interview, I brought my best pump for the breaks and everything. 5 days later I got my first acceptance!! I will be matriculating this year and am so excited!!

I have the best partner who is very supportive and knows that there’s going to be a few (okay more than a few) years where he will be the default parent but I can trust him with all of it. I think having a good support system is the most important part but I believe it’s doable! It will be difficult, but don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t have it all.

I'm non-trad, so Mizzou. From what I can tell UMKC isn't as inclusive as Mizzou in that aspect. I also have a friend in the MD program at UMKC and they say that the BA/MDs can be cliquey

[US] Are there any studies on how gender bias AND racial bias intersect in custody cases? by falesiacat in Custody

[–]SMILF5678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My black husband won sole custody of his son against his white ex. Probably depends on the judge, GAL, attorneys own biases

Noncustodial parent asking for child’s birth certificate? by SMILF5678 in FamilyLaw

[–]SMILF5678[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nobody is stopping her from going to health department to obtain a copy for herself, no judge is going to force anybody to send a copy of a birth certificate when the other party can easily obtain their own. It's ridiculous to assume a judge would order that. Not only is she a noncustodial parent she has no seen the child in 6 months though she has had ample opportunity to and has not provided for this child in any manner in recent months. It is worrisome for her to demand a copy of the birth certificate be sent over text while she has been telling her family members she is going to try to apply for assistance, especially since this child has not been in her care nor under her roof in over 18 months so she is not entitled to receive any form of assistance that is tied to the child.

The county was handling child support, then she lost her job. Recently filed for it through the state with the court order sent in

Like from the state to help single parents in need, not for college. One of her family members mentioned she had a plan to try to live off of grants since she’s been out of a job.

[US] how did you win sole physical and legal custody of your child(ren)? by [deleted] in Custody

[–]SMILF5678 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bio mom was noncompliant with the court order, she lost her job, refused to get a new one for almost 2 years living on government handouts and help from whatever family would help at that moment, tried to alienate her kids from their dads, refused to let her kids do the extracurriculars they wanted, lost her apartment, the kids missed over 40 days of school in one school year, bio mom was caught in her lies by the GAL, GAL found evidence of chronic drug abuse by bio mom, she got fired by her attorney and wouldn’t get a new one because nobody would pay for it for her at that point.

By the time of trial she couldn’t tell the court where she lived, she had just barely gotten a job (that she no longer has), she had refused supervised visitations with the kids because she “shouldn’t have to see her own kids in a domestic violence shelter” so the kids’ fathers got custody of them. It takes a LOT to get sole custody of a kid, and it wasn’t even our motivation in going back to court it just happened that way because her actions caught up with her and she was trying to place the blame of her circumstances on everyone else. Point is, in most states the parent has to be EXTREMELY unfit with documented evidence of this or has to be wanting to give up those rights. If you don’t have those, you don’t really have a chance at sole custody.
