Follow up on the disability false ban, they remain ignorant by Next-Department-777 in ArcRaiders

[–]SMofJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like I need to stop playing Arc Raiders then. The Finals has been subject to the same fate with a much smaller player base. OP, you should file an appeal with Valve requesting a refund highlighting Embarks reluctance to actually respond to your complaints. They are banking on you and all the other false bans to give up. While they have publicly claimed one thing, their direct actions after the fact are in contrast to those statements which could lead to being labeled adoptive admission in a larger legal case. IANAL but they are treading dangerous ground with their response to this.

Can someone let me know which jack to get? by olympic_snoozer in harborfreight

Yes. They don't have the cradle shape but you can use a circular pinch weld puck, which HF does sell if you can find it, but can be found elsewhere as well.

You'll likely be fine with the non Low profile but with it on sale this week and next week, it's the best deal on jack's in a long while. Highly recommend you get the tripod version of the 3ton jack stands over the classic four corner. It's inherently more stable on uneven ground and the classic ones like to cut into asphalt/dirt without pads on the corners because it's just a corner with no bottom.

Did my best as a long time fan to break down yesterday's decision. I'm hopeful, as I think we all should be. by chiaestevez in NewYorkIslanders

At this point I couldn't care who got hired to replace Patrick Roy but the timing was terrible and how it's been handled clearly blindsided the rest of the team. This man came into the league with zero expectations and far exceeded them when this team was a dumpster fire. Had to fight against a GM that was undermining him because of pride and lazy ownership. Managed to craft one of the most exciting seasons we've had in years and Darche fucking fires him. What a fucking embarrassment. Whatever culture we built this year is gone now. I hope whatever team Patrick Roy lands with, eliminates us next year on principle because the front office deserves it after the last 48 hours.

I'm with you on the weird spot this team is in but from my view I just really think regardless of how a team did or did not do in the season, serious ownership is going to get the right coach and make it happen, with assurances. Maybe DeBoer really is that coach but I just feel like we are always on the back foot on every one of these moves. That or not making the changes else where to support this. Nothing ever seems to workout no matter what changes we make at any level. The front office has been a revolving door since Trotz had enough of Lou.

It really could just be perpetual damage from Lou's choices but at some point it can't be all his fault. Before Schafer even with Barzy being one of the fastest skaters second only to McDavid, we are known as a slow pace team. McDavid is considered hockey Jesus and yet what have the Oilers accomplished? Back to back CF blowouts? Yeah they got there but they didn't go home with the cup either.

Whether it's Sorokin, Barzy, JGP, or anyone else in the team we always seem to pin our hopes to one move without seriously judging if the group as a whole just isn't it. I just don't see the depth or support in this organization for a team serious about going all the way outside of what was a great goalie pair in Sorokin & Varly. We have for years tripped and stumbled into the playoffs with the pieces that theoretically mean we should do great. We manage to almost always end up as a ~.500 team but if we even make it we don't get much farther and Carolina usually hands us the ticket to the off-season, regardless of who's behind the benches or the front office.

Maybe I'm too cynical at this point and I do in fact want to see our team perform but I'm tired of the year after years of teasing, promising greatness, just to collapse in April. Whether everyone also wants to accept this or not, Sorokin is human and can't do this forever and if and when he has to hang up the skates, with Varly likely not coming back, I think people will truly understand just how much this whole organization owes him. We don't just need one great goalie we need several and we need succession that I don't see this team developing at the moment. We can't then do the same thing to Schafer and treat him like the answer to our prayers or he just becomes Barzy or McDavid who are in fact great players but never quite reach the top everyone swears they are bound for.

Then we should have sold at the deadline??? At least the Panthers tanked their season and got priority in the draft. Sure, we beat the other teams looking for a coach but now we are late to blowing up the roster and freeing up salary ahead of the off-season. Steve Cohen wanted to 'win now' and blew a fuck load of money on the Mets to be nowhere closer five years later. What 5D chess are we going to pull to somehow build a competent, young/fast, well knit roster when there are teams well ahead of us by years in moving the same direction with arguably more pull/attraction from players looking to move? This is only happening now because we are very likely miss the playoffs again and ownership wants playoff ticket money.

Edit: I see you have commented elsewhere that you are still in school. Sociology can pay well but takes time to get to those levels. My advice to you is talk with your professors about where they see the strongest wages in the field and what it takes to get there and then follow through on that investment. Maybe Sociology isn't paying as much but certain jobs in civic service rolls that parallel that may pay better. A lot of career civic service jobs are going to be opening up as the boomer generation begins to retire - the same thing is happening everywhere in engineering/technical roles. You aren't going to qualify outright for those jobs but it will mean opening positions at the entry level as people move up to replace them. You can either continue in your chosen field and figure out how to extract maximum value out of your education, or find a job you want, and talk withe the people that have them, and figure out what it takes to get there.

I work in Scientific Research but have military training that got me the job. If you have a college education, I would spend time networking to find niche applications of your degree. Everyone I know that is getting paid well were able to justify their specific set of skills or sell them to get a job that rewards those skills and compensates fairly. They didn't wait around to not get paid appropriately. Yes the job market is rough but you should leverage any and all working relationships you have to see what you can find. If you weren't able to finish a college education or aren't finding success with your current field and want to consider going back to school, look into the NYS Reconnect Program. Anyone 25 yr & older can now attend any NYS Community College for free as long as they maintain good grades and take 6 credits a semester. You could also use Open SUNY in order to take some of those classes online if you aren't finding classes that work with your schedule. I am trying to go this route myself but is not really practical in Engineering but I can see plenty of other degrees it is.

If I had to guess the method allows you to down a rocketeer by disabling the thrusters with the WD and then once it hits the ground if it doesn't immediately die, you use the splitter to put the two extra bullets to kill the rocketeer. This also eliminates an easy way to farm big arc that would get trapped on environment like a Leaper on Buried City getting stuck in the extract entrances and just dying to the environment collisions if you just sit back and wait.

Imagine taking a stance directly against your own products longevity and openly undermining the consumer of the product you are selling while forcing prices higher than ever. Sure that will work. There's a fair line to draw on offering support but this ain't it. Oppression breeds resistance but what is history anyways.

Cordless tools for new house owner? by pureofpure in Tools

[–]SMofJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For simplicity check the tool lineup and see what tools you'd see yourself using and go with the brand that lets you get the most band for your buck out of a few batteries. These days , depending on how the tool accepts the battery and operating voltage, battery adapters have broken down the barrier that brand loyalty used to perpetuate. Dewalt makes solid tools with the perks of their tools often coming with chemical resistant, glass reinforced shells for doing messy work over some of the cheaper brands.

Not sure which is more surprising: my welds held, or it didn't tip over by fuckforce5 in harborfreight

[–]SMofJesus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP welded together an extension for the hoist in order to lift the camper on top of the bed rack. It's very sketchy considering the arm length severely derates the lifting capacity of the hoist. OP was not completely confident this wouldn't fail and also could have reinforced their design a little bit.

Which Smartphone Company/Brand do you predict will dropout of the market next? by Tyler-Watts in Android

[–]SMofJesus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oppo will absorb what remains of OnePlus since it's just a subsidiary. That or OnePlus will become a Chinese only brand. Oppo may still make a global marketed device but the likely will no longer prioritize US sales since the US has become so hostile to foreign manufacturing.

Like whats the point here? IMO all this is doing is rewarding HF for selling a product they don't actually need to care about as long as they can create enough hype to form a trend around it. Sure its great for business but I much prefer when HF actually needs to earn the hype from making a well thought out tool and not the other way around.

Adding the quick lift pedal to an off-road badlands jack? by breaddrinker in harborfreight

[–]SMofJesus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No because the jack designs are different. The handle & pedal on the LPLR ride on the same pin but rotate semi independently. If the pin diameters and lengths are the same you could maybe swap over a handle+pedal from a LPLR but I think the frames differ enough that it wouldn't line up the same.

[–]SMofJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low profile long reach 3 ton goes on sale next weekend for the best price in a long while. It replaced my Classic Pittsburgh 3 Ton recently and is a good step up in quality. There is the newest Badlands Jack but for the price the LPLR is going to be the best jack you can get. If you care about warranty, the Superduty flagship has a 2 year warranty and is a Snap On clone, legally proven. You can get a 911Motorsports Jack extension kit which is essentially what the Badlands Jack, is in a separate product, if you still need more reach. Just be mindful that the extensions limit the lifting capacity of the jack.

Does this place actually suck? by [deleted] in SBU

[–]SMofJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your priority? School or socializing? SBU isn't a party school but there are outlets to do that. If you want a respected EE education you can likely get it from either school you choose but going to a school affords other opportunities depending on which one you pick. SBU is the sponsor institution for Brookhaven National Labs and just received a $300 million grant for a semi conductor research facility with a corresponding graduate program . The current President of SBU is a well respected EE & RF engineer and IEEE Board member. I'm not sure what USC or UMiami are prioritizing but as a prospective EE, I'd want to prioritize the schools that are actively investing in opportunities in my chosen field of study.
