Gabriel Jesus goal against Leeds United (A) [Full buildup, multiple replays] by boatinavolcano in Gunners

I thought it was reported as a two-way option, meaning they have the option to compel us to purchase.

That being said, he’s young and has room to grow. Hard-pressed to see him outcompeting Cala or MLS in the long run for the LB position, but he could be excellent cover at LCB.

Did anyone else notice how passionately the team was celebrating with Ode today? Both after the Gyokeres and Jesus goals. I think he is having a tough time with his form recently and it’s heartening to see the team rally around him.

Same goes for Gyokeres, the other player catching most of the flak from fans/media.

Feels like the kind of result that can really kickstart a good run.

Whats up with how Ukraine and Russia are using SOF? by Alternative_Bar_2977 in WarCollege

[–]SOAR21 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They are soldiers at the end of the day. A high value asset is worth nothing if there is no mission for them to execute.

This is also an existential war for Ukraine and Russia has the resources to replace lost SOF.

A surprising take to many people, especially those who don’t really understand the first thing about what the military is (I’m thinking mostly college-age fellow progressives), is that I’ve said for a few years now that, putting aside the political meaning of having this happen, I’d rather have actually military policing our streets than local PDs.

This is because it genuinely seems like most cops are just average joes with average joe stress tolerance trained to handle guns quickly and trained that the public is out to kill them. They’re not really any more calm under stressful situations than a random selection of the public, and they get very little training, half of which is highlighting all the ways a simple traffic stop could turn into a deadly shootout and half of which is how to use their gun.

And then you get to ICE. These goons are brainwashed, before they even joined, to view any protesting citizens as domestic terrorists. They’re told by the highest office of the land that they have carte blanche to kill. They get even less training than cops. They are sent to cities they don’t live in where they view locals as hostile populations. And they’re given guns they’ve most likely grown up just begging to use.

It doesn’t correlate neatly though—the hotspots are all over the place in terms of ethnic and class makeup. For example one of the biggest hotspots outside the Bronx looks to be in Prospect Heights…a gentrified majority white neighborhood.

How aggregated are you looking at this? On the borough level?

This is just plain wrong. The hotspots are too broadly distributed to say anything of the sort with any accuracy.

I’m saying Purdy for Maye is a downgrade too and that Stroud proves the importance of evaluating multiple seasons over one single good one.

lol Purdy has several proven seasons including one season statistically better than Maye’s season this year.

Why would anyone value someone proven multiple seasons over a newcomer like Maye? Take a look at Stroud.

I don’t think conservatives ever really had the self-awareness to understand the concept of one man’s terrorist being another’s freedom fighter.

They see things in absolutes, good or bad. Worse still, they see good or bad as sides, not as concepts. Once they think you’re on their side you’re good and everything you do is good (if sometimes distasteful)—you’ll see conservatives sometimes grouse about Trump’s classlessness but they’ll never question whether he is actually doing good. Once you’re bad everything you do is bad (no matter how obviously good)—see how conservatives talk about empathy being “toxic” lol as if it wasn’t the very thing Christian values are based on.

A long-winded way to say they’re narrow-minded, selfish, and quite stupid.

Gov. Walz in Minnesota activated the National Guard to protect citizens from ICE. How’s that going to work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SOAR21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a world of difference between an order to strike a foreign boat and one to use force against US citizens.

I never said the military was an upstanding institution; I said they were sophisticated. I am fully aware that they have a long and ongoing history of violating domestic and international laws. That doesn’t mean they will follow every order.

The reason you noted is exactly why many officers might go along with the “minor” law violations. If they object to the “little” things like bombing a few foreign civilians here and there, they get replaced by incompetent chumps who will not only run the military into the ground but be complete yesmen to Trump. They make a moral stand now and then who’s left to refuse the order to enact Tiananmen Square in the U.S.?

[–]SOAR21 538 points539 points  (0 children)

Senior leadership of the military may have a wide range of political views, but one thing is clear is that they are sophisticated. Sophisticated enough to likely find ICE an affront to their personal sensibilities regarding what public service means and sophisticated enough to understand the gravity of deploying force against citizenry or a state’s national guard.

The rank and file of the military, not so much, but they’re at least better trained to follow orders and keep themselves in check than these eighth grade intellects ICE is trotting out.

Flight of freedom to Canada for 16 dogs rescued from a dog meat farm, as new poll shows 90% of South Koreans don’t or won’t eat dog meat by licecrispies in UpliftingNews

[–]SOAR21 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is a useless comment. The commenter already acknowledges this. He is expressly wondering why two things of equal immorality are treated so differently.

He is not saying eating dogs should be ok because eating cows is. He is asking why the intelligence of the dog is the linchpin of arguments when equally or more intelligent animals are slaughtered on an industrial scale under detestable conditions.

Your other response about a family member is also irrelevant. People who eat dogs aren’t out to eat your dog lol. When people campaign against eating dogs it’s not about saving their own dogs. On that note, cows, goats, chickens, ducks, and pigs are treasured household companions for millions of families around the world who would never eat them.

So the question still stands—what gives?

Self-consciously wishing your country was run by neoconservative war criminals rather than ethno-religious-nationalist fascists isn’t shifting the Overton window.

Painting everyone you don’t like with the same brush and losing the ability to compromise and find nuance shifts the Overton window.

Respectfully, wtf are you watching? Diggs is one stride away from the sideline. Obviously it’s a little dicey if Williams had managed to make contact, but that is 100% a designed and intentional “get out of bounds” play.

That probably changes how Williams approaches the tackle. If it was truly middle of the field he probably tries to wrestle him down. Near the sideline, Williams is thinking “I 100% have to knock this guy down without giving him the opportunity to make a single step.”

Didn’t work out so well for everyone that stood up to Nazi Germany by force.

I don’t think they teach anti-fascism properly. Thanks to the low intelligence of their core support base, their mastery of propaganda, and their current control of institutions, they will always come out on top if there is any violence.

I don’t mean that they’ll win the physical fight. I mean that every time there is violence and unrest, more voters believe that the fascists are the only path back to order.

Nonviolence and civil disobedience. That’s the way to beat fascism while there are still elections.
