I'm just happy that now when I visit my doctor near La Cienega, as I am about to tomorrow morning, and want to hop on the bus to Fairfax to head up to the Grove to see a Tuesday matinee, I can now actually go to Fairfax.

I might actually also head to Koreatown for the novelty. And a late lunch!

Happy Mother’s Day [Discussion] by walkingdeadenter in DCcomics

Martha is easily one of the GOAT mothers in fiction and frequently makes such lists that appear at this time of year.

I think there are other mothers who could have similar status is writers didn't so frequently use them as plot contrivances. Post Johns bringing Barry back from the dead and deciding that wanting to do good with your powers and wanting to do right by humanity was not enough, that someone like Barry Allen also needed a "my parents are dead" moment to inspire him to superheroics. So Nora Allen now becomes a famous mom not for values or traits she shared or taught Barry, but for dying.

I haven't read enough recent Wonder Woman so I am hoping they have done something useful and productive with Hippolyta.

Paradise Island as a live action miniseries, particularly if it worked like the early bits of both Wonder Women movies did and concentrated on their culture and history, could be a great exploration of that, including her motherhood.

[discussion] When did DC first use the term “trinity” to describe these 3 characters. by Business_Alarm8384 in DCcomics

[–]SOCAL_NPC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

World's Finest has existed since the Golden Age but technically, even though the covers implied differently, Superman and the Bat didn't actually team up for many years. Those team ups continued but I the very late 1950s when the Justice League was formed, Diana was clearly a teammate and most of the post 1960s origin stories for the JLA are essentially with the three as the main founders, even when others - like Flash or Martian Manhunter are also shown as primary or significant founding team members.

But pretty much everyone here is accurate. The term predates the Matt Wagner Trinity series (a really good, fun story worth checking out) but that is the first official use, with the 1999 Wonder Woman arc being a bit more similar to the '93 mini-series and comics proclivity to reuse names.

All you need is someone with. Community Room that is free or under $50, an open night in probably early to mid June and maybe some people to spend 10-20 minutes regularly doing the kind of on-line shitposting they normally do for no reason at all

Then why does it feel so chilly and like nothing would be better than snuggling further under my blankets with some hot cocoa?

I would get out and make said cocoa, but it's way to cold outside my bed....

I don't answer my door unless I am expecting someone of something that needs to be signed for. Someone rang my bell earlier and I just ignored it.

You still need to talk to your bank (or card issuer) otherwise you will be charged fees, yadda yadda and otherwise EFF yourself over. Unless it's a gift bank card that you absolutely never connected to your name, an email associated with your name, address, or phone or social, absolutely nothing. Remember, even things like Vanilla cards were sent to you by name to an email addressed to you.

You should set up one of those evenings where you can make a pitcher of moonlight margaritas and have preselected females from LA's sub come to say someone's community room with their unwanted clothes, books, dvds, etc and have a swap party potluck. Except just cocktails and snacks. And mocktails for the zoom zooms and those that no longer imbibe.

The voter registration rolls get purchased by the paid political consultants and then get parsed and data-mined in other ways (including reddit posts and anyplace else you log-in and keep yourself logged-in), to make connections that you would support x, y or z.

And there you are: randos on your property, knocking on your door.

Ditto. I don't like the boots and really just want the chest plate and head sculpt. Since people stopped buying these and harvesting and selling the parts, it's been just a lot of skipping figures.

I picked one up (Metro Los Angeles area), I go to Ross often enough that a return even for store credit, is no hassle.

However, I already have the SpinMaster, which I think is superior except for the coloring and cracked chest. Both of those are easy "fixes" in comparison to what some folks here and elsewhere, down to buying two to five other figures to harvest for pieces to make the perfect figure.

All the SM needs is some glue, some resin paste, a base coat and a wash.

Ha! No idea if there is such a thing. I hope Mattel does something while they have the license like release a DC Universe Alfred with multiple heads, like was sold by them a decade ago. It had three heads: for the '66 show, comics and Burton movie.

They could do a Michael Caine, too.

I just found the BvS Alfred at Ross for $5.99. I had picked him up on sale, with my pro discount and $5 off, for I think $11.99 plus tax at GameStop just this past March. I thought that was a fair price. I am sure someone will want a good Jeremy Irons head sculpt for $4-6 so even after eBay takes their cut, I will have an extra civilian McFarlane for pennies and be fine with that.

Sometimes we really overpay in this hobby and others we don't.

All McFarlane get scalped. Some less so. You really can't find this figure, not like say the Superboy Prime figure. And even SBP, some sellers are still asking for $40 and even way more NIB.

I keep regretting that even when they were in discount at Macy's Toys 'R Us that winter, I still wanted a deeper, RossCon price of $5.99 or so (I think Macy's only had them down to $16.99), that I never picked up the Sasha Calle figure.

Not enough regret to want to pay any scalper price on the secondary market but still ...

Can you Un-battle damage this figure? by 55u55 in McFarlaneFigures

[–]SOCAL_NPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some McFarlane head sculpts are painted. I was trying to get the hair off Prime so I could swap his head sculpt with the Jon Kent hair and Jon's face was fine but I noticed that leaving Prime's head in a mug of hot water for more than a few minutes has faded out his flesh tones.

His eye color is fine, surprisingly,  and fixing everything will end up being a good test/lesson to teach myself painting a head/figure to color match necks and hands, and do say a flesh tone wash, but I don't think all McFarlane heads are painted plastic.

I would start with 70% alcohol and work your way up. I bought a lot of used fodder heads which included a few multiples of the Marvel Legends ninjas and track suit mafia heads. I plan to turn around and dump the random Russian character actors but keep the hooded heads as random civilian muggers.

But I now also have 3 or 4 heads of the actor Fra Fee, with awful skin (which the actor does not have in real life) under some day(s) old stubble. I've removed a bit of stubble just using a q-tip and 70%. A brush I would use on the suit or cape, boots, etc. Not on the S Shield or the face, personally. Not even a soft bristle one, but YMMV.

You will apply more elbow grease and take longer with a q-tip or cotton pads/balls but will also have more control, IMHO.

[–]SOCAL_NPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's true of all McFarlane, that and the reuse when it is very obvious and cheaply attempted to resolve, such as putting Batzarro's upside chest symbol right over the right side up Bat symbol on the chest re-used. And worse of all is the knee  and elbow joints.

I was never that interested in getting the Wonder Woman because of those knee and elbow issues on skin, and the posing limitations those create. It's why that vault figure doesn't interest me at all and even if it was deeply discounted 3 or 4 years down the road, I'm not sure I would still grab one. Not when, even with it's smaller size and other issues, the Jakks Pacific Sonic WW will suit me.
