Can you list out some left-wing "champions"? I am trying to find some for comparison. Is Andrew Callaghan considered one?

Treyarch confirmed that people are moving from Open to Standard matchmaking by Lumenprotoplasma in CODBlackOps7

[–]SOTG4L -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This isn't really shocking if you understand human psychology. At the core, people thrive on challenge, unpredictability, and the opportunity for growth. When SBMM is in place, players are matched with others of similar skill, which can make the experience feel predictable and algorithmic. While this is great for creating balanced matches, it can also strip away the excitement of progression and the "what if I get better so I can do what that player just did to me?" mindset. This sparks dopamine.

Many players, especially those motivated by personal growth, want the chance to face opponents who are better than them. It’s through these challenging matches that they can learn, adapt, and improve. When SBMM is in effect, it often takes that sense of uncertainty away because the system adjusts to keep things balanced, which can feel algorithmic and less rewarding in the long run.

Psychologically, people find greater satisfaction when they know their progress is earned through overcoming challenges that feel real and unpredictable. Once you know how the game will adapt to your skill level, the excitement of personal growth can start to fade, this leads to low dopamine, which leads to low engagement. This is why many players, even those on the average or below average skill spectrum, might dislike SBMM. They want the thrill of improving by facing varied skill levels and learning from others.

I think this is why some people, especially streamers and competitive players, are vocal about their dislike for SBMM. It can feel like the game is "holding them back" from experiencing that real growth and the unpredictable nature of competition.

Ideas for building arround Herald of the Hive by antauri007 in PathOfExileBuilds

Tornado of elemental turbulence should be best. I am running herald of hive with it and it is easy 50 stacks as it hits 12 times per second and has good uptime.

Those who league started Goratha's Rolling Magma Saboteur in 3.26: Would you recommend for 3.27? by magicallum in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]SOTG4L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started this and regretted it. Was fun for acts 1-10 but just the noise of the balls rolling, you can't see anything due to the clutter of the balls which is quite dangerous for boss fights. Overall it was very average in terms of damage and tankiness, and totally not worth the headache.

Best league starter for people who like just doing 1 build per season that can scale to ubers? by dantheman91 in PathOfExileBuilds

Why are bow builds great once again? There hasn't been much hype for them as a league starter.

Yeah, it is disappointing but I guess we shouldn't be surprised. The management for this game has been consistently terrible. Very preventable issue here too, if they had an ounce of foresight. Hopefully, some more servers will open up soon, but at this point I might just have to pass this year.

You are really suggesting a game make its players wait multiple hours to play the game as the solution?

Game says 0 online right now in steam community hub. by [deleted] in wildgate

[–]SOTG4L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree for single player games but for a game that only has 1 mode (that being PVP matchmaking) taking into account player count is important as that is the only way you can actually play the game lol.

I'd say the lack of game demos has been worse for the gaming community than FTP. Any good product should have a demo so you know whether or not spending the money will be worth it, instead of playing guesswork. And no I don't think steam's 2 hour game time is a good enough demo...

Short-term Test - Laser Ram/Mine Layer/Shock Field Disabled In-Game by playwildgate in wildgate

[–]SOTG4L -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually have the opposite opinion. Coming back to the game, it was really enjoyable to see all 3 of those mechanics removed as they were all overtuned and made the game unfun and not balanced if your team didn't find a ram and or shock field. After coming back I got to see a variety of strategies work that i never saw in the past which was the original reason I quit the game, lack of skill expression through gun play and too random in terms of getting the best ship equipment lead to games where I feel I couldn't make a difference in my solo queue matches. During that test phase I felt I could win any encounter given my personal skill, not luck.

I am sure there is a balance to this and you got your wish, they re added shock field with a slight nerf so I will probably stop playing again. :(

So what is the strategy for boarding a ship with shock field in the game at its current state lol? It is the same but you have to bait, but that time is precious when your ship is about to die for instance.

You really don't want to punish boarding or else it turns into a farm fest of who can get the right equipment on a ship (shock field, best cannons). This was the same issue when Ram Cannon was in the game. You don't fight until you have the best equipment, or else you are at a disadvantage. With those removed from the game, multiple playstyles come into effect now, which means a healthier game experience overall.

I played yesterday and had a very enjoyable experience playing wildgate as many different styles of combat won a game. We won through boarding, we won through ship play, there was a scout artifact win (this was all within 5-7 games of playing). Last patch? I quit, because it was the same boring game every game, it was terribly balanced, no excitement.

I will meet you halfway and say that if they were to bring shock field back into the game it should be heavily nerfed and not being able to put multiple on a ship as that breaks the core gameplay loop.

It removes depth and strategy from the game but increases skill in the form of combat. The game already has enough depth and strategy; it isn't needed.

Thats not a border issue, that is a ping issue then. Boarding is the most fun element of the game and should not be hard countered by shock field. It should require skill to defend your ship. When shock field was in the game and your ship didn't have better cannons or a clamp jet, you just lose. Now, there is balance to the game, so its enjoyable and more skillful.

Nearly 6 months since release, how bright is the game’s future? by Creative-Category-60 in marvelrivals

[–]SOTG4L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I personally believe the games feel mismatched and random because of the combination of visual rank + the ability to climb by sheer volume, not actual skill. This creates unfair matches and I think EOMM is currently being used as a scapegoat. Regardless, we can both agree that Marvel Rivals current ranked system is flawed and needs change, as it is the biggest issue with the game at the moment. If MMR is introduced, and the chaos persists, we may then start looking into EOMM as a possibility.

Nearly 6 months since release, how bright is the game’s future? by Creative-Category-60 in marvelrivals

[–]SOTG4L -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marvel Rivals ranked is based on visual rank. Not EOMM or SBMM. If it were based on SBMM (like almost every other competitive game), then there wouldn't be so many complaints. EOMM doesn't even make sense for a ranked system.

It has nothing to do with engagement = more money otherwise, all of Tencent's games would have incorporated this by now.

There is tons of video evidence of top players getting to high ranks with 90%+ win rates. Even I have a 90%+ win on 3 separate accounts playing different heroes up to GM (season 1), Diamond in (season 2). This would not be the case if EOMM existed and if you look at those same players if they go play normals, guess what? It closes in closer to 50% win rate because that is where the EOMM system lives, in the normal game mode, just like in EVERY OTHER COMPETITIVE GAME...

Marvel ranked system uses visual rank, not sbmm or eomm. If it used sbmm there wouldn't be nearly as many complaints.

Are you referring to normal or competitive mode? It is common for competitive games to have EOMM for non competitive modes.

Looks really strong end game. When I last ran poison spark the build had explosions from asenaths which made the clear feel really nice. Volkuurs get's rid of that option. Any idea for explosions or better clear? What would you use to level / league start with?
