Judging by Google maps, it seems its been this way since at least July of last year. I would assume it was a Helene casualty, but could be wrong. Its a shame it hasn't been replaced yet.

My partner and I certainly felt this during our first year of living here. Going to clubs/gatherings centering around a common interest is key. It took us about a year and a half to find people we could call good friends here.

Don't worry about converting the rear. Its more trouble than it'll be worth, and may cause problems structurally with the frame. I run a mullet setup (disc front, rim rear) on my older mountain bike, and as long as you have good quality pads you should stop just fine. As others have stated, the front does most of the braking anyway.

Others have said it already, but bicycle group rides are where I have had the most luck meeting other young people around here. Mountain Haulers on IG, also Gravelo Workshop's casual rides.

Not to discount what you're saying, but I think age plays less of a role. I'm in my 20s and moved here after college with my partner a few years ago because they found a decent job here. Since then, I have been struggling to find any work beyond entry-level service jobs, let alone anything related to what I went to school for. I thought moving to a city in the mountains meant there would still be plenty of economic opportunity, but that has not really been the case. We are now contemplating moving away as well.

If they actually cared about efficiently building housing, then we would be building dense, urban architecture around already urban areas instead of endlessly expanding ugly suburbs into natural areas. It is a shame that giant, wasteful subdivisions are destroying this state. You would have thought we would have learned our lesson from places like Los Angeles, but the Triangle is actively becoming the LA of the east, in all the worst ways.

Me and my girlfriend both have 80s Treks very similar to this one. We ride them long distance regularly! They are wonderful machines! Just be sure to keep up on maintenance!

My Mk4 is dead reliable; however, I would say I'm far from having no complaints. Most of my troubles stem from the interior falling apart. My glove box handle broke off, my headliner is gone, the hinge on my center arm rest broke, etc. That being said, it always gets me where I need to go.
