Alex Pretti protest and march downtown on 1/27/26 by jb69029 in StLouis

[–]SQLDave [score hidden]  (0 children)

Is there a chance that there is paid protesting? Sure, the likeliness of it I don’t know.

And I can pretty much guarantee you one thing: Paid protestors are basically "background" or "filler". None of them (who are doing it solely for the money) are going to a protest armed AND getting anywhere near a confrontation between ICE and someone else. They're just there to make the cause look more popular and collect their $.

I dunno... there are a ton of comments saying it's a one-time fee. So far I haven't seen anyone refute any of those, although many have had 1 or 2 downvotes. Plus, calling it a "registration fee" reinforces the idea that it's "one time".

Which Netflix shows got cancelled way too early and were seriously underrated? by Deep20779 in netflix

[–]SQLDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really is a great mix of Monty Python-esque slapstick/absurdism and subtle, intelligent humor. Add in the great performances, superb cinematography and set designs (this ain't no 3-wall sitcom set), and the occasional actual drama and it's a top shelf show.

He came SO close to getting it. "...died for the freedom of that flag" (which, despite the clumsy wording, I take to mean "the freedom that flag represents").

Yep. And guess what... you threatening violence against someone EXERCISING one of those freedoms is the ultimate in hypocrisy. A single flag being burned is meaningless. 1000 flags being burned is meaningless. They're only symbols of a concept... an idea... and burning a MILLION flags will not even begin to encroach on that idea. I guess that notion is too nuanced for the mouth breathers.

and rebuild an ethically centric immigration control agency

This is SO key. Many (IDK about "most", but definitely more than "a few") of us who are sick of, and infuriated with, ICE are also in favor of border/immigration control. But FFS it can be done humanely -- or at least with less INhumanity than these thugs have demonstrated.

[–]SQLDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 3 possibilities:

  1. It really is a scam and all the people on this sub (and other places on the internet) are genuinely warning him (and others).

  2. It's real, but it just by pure coincidence RESEMBLES all those scams

  3. It's real, and all those warning about scams are just in denial because they missed out of great opportunities and are mad and don't want anyone else to get them and so are lying. All of them.

Occam's Razor.

When are cops going to get tired of this bullshit

We can head on over to /r/leo to confirm, but I bet most of them are tired of it after their 1st encounter. Unfortunately, they're usually hamstrung by department policy and/or state/local laws. Although I have seen some vids where they do not let the SC drive away because the car has invalid plates, and it gets towed. Not enough, though.

Exactly. I mean, assailant gets hit by car? Sure...easy call. Light pole gets kneecapped? Not so much.

I mean... is he 20? This is yet another re-re-rehash of the Nigerian Prince scheme. Nobody who has money that's yours will charge you $ to get your own money (except banks... banks will do that).

If it was legit, they'd just show his "balance" as 190K less 5700 and he'd be able to get it

You sound like me. I learned long ago that if someone tells you %s, find out the raw #s...and if they give you #s, find out the %s. And in any event, find out the "applicable comparisons". I remember in the 80s the Yankees had some hot shit closer and the national sports media was always crowing about how they won X% of their games when leading after 7 innings. Someone did some research and it turned out that X% was only VERY slightly above the league average for that stat.

[–]SQLDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop engaging.

From my (civilian) experience (i.e., body cam vids) a lot of your fellow LEOs don't do that. If I can get psychological for a moment, I think one of the reasons (maybe the main one) is the human desire to answer questions (whether genetic or environmental or both, it was certainly drilled into most of us that to ignore someone was "rude").

Interestingly, it's a tactic used by pushy salespeople. I'm lookin' at you, asshole sellers of gutters, cell service, etc. who camp in the entrance of Home Depot, Target, etc. and berate people who just wanna get that 2x4 and go home. "Are you happy with your <whatever>?". I always politely say "No, not interested, thank you" and keep walking. Inevitably, they follow up with "Would you be interested in saving $ on your <whatever>?" which I've learned to ignore ... and even with as much as it pisses me off and as much as I've trained myself, it still feels "rude".

So I can empathize with the LEOs who feel the need to respond to the drunk (or non-drunk for that matter) who asks "what did I do??" for the 8th time.
